Walter Brennan stars in this...really quite a career, sort of the Joe Estevez of the 1930s...his character, coincidentally, named Kingman

Forgive the thread spam, but I wanted to note that this show's 2019 season is nominated in the 2019 ILX TV poll:
ILX's Best Television of 2019 Poll / VOTING AND CAMPAIGNING THREAD / Voting Ends January 31
If you like this show and you'd like to see it have a good showing in the poll (running in February) all you need to do is submit a ballot including it and your other favorites (4 minimum, 25 maximum, organized by your favorite to least favorite) to forksclovetofu at gmail by end of day today. It'll take five minutes; get to it!

y'all know that as little as 2 years ago this exact same IRL logistical scenario has happened before, and it resulted in some of the most painfully awkward and insane performances in the series to date?

Axiom calling Gregg worried that Tim had killed himself and Gregg asking if he had any picks for best actor is definitely one of my favorite parts of the whole series

― turn the jawhatthefuckever on (One Eye Open), Monday, 10 February 2020 16:59 (six years ago)
My prediction is that Greg will be arrested for murder with much grandstanding and public moralizing by Tim, but DA Rosetti the Rat will drop charges or engineer an acquittal as a way of getting back at Tim
― turn the jawhatthefuckever on (One Eye Open), Monday, 10 February 2020 17:05 (six years ago)
I really don't see how they do another full trial
― uncrut gems (crüt), Monday, 10 February 2020 18:14 (six years ago)
I've just finished Mister America and am only five episodes into season 11, so apologies if this is addressed later in the season or the special: do you think are we meant to take at face value Toni's explanation that it was her own decision to acquit Tim? I always assumed he paid a juror off (presumably with Delgado funds or a job offer, hence campaign manager). OTOH, she seems like a Trump voter so could see her genuinely responding to his insanity.
― blatherskite, Monday, 10 February 2020 18:45 (six years ago)
my feeling is that she decided to acquit him and only after the trial did they hook up but i don't think it's clear
― Mordy, Monday, 10 February 2020 18:47 (six years ago)
it's never cleared up - I assumed the juror payoff as well
― Οὖτις, Monday, 10 February 2020 18:47 (six years ago)
my partner and i have spent the last year catching up on this and finished just in time for the special last night. some thoughts:
* we both agree that the funniest thing they've done so far is when gregg showed up in the giant suit at the end of season 1 * the victorville season was the best * the trial was amazing-- the fly and tim getting gregg to lie under oath re: star trek was incredible * this is the best comedy of the moment but it's a really hard sell to people. "no no no trust me, it's incredible. but you gotta hang in there for the first 25 episodes"
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Monday, 10 February 2020 21:00 (six years ago)
"here's my ticket stub, i'd like a seat in the front row!" is a close second for funniest thing they've done

hard to imagine Tim could pull something like this off without it getting immediately revealed during the trial. he is not exactly a cunning person. my view of it is that Toni is one of those people who gets really into stuff like QAnon - seems normal on the surface but has beliefs that are totally fucking crazy
― frogbs, Monday, 10 February 2020 21:12 (six years ago)
i thought it was interesting that she liked Parasite and didn't think it was Chinese psy ops like Tim

yeah this is my take too - she presents as normal/competent enough to be Tims liaison to the world as his campaign manager/assistant, but the more time spent listening to her the more clear it becomes that she is a complete mess
― turn the jawhatthefuckever on (One Eye Open), Monday, 10 February 2020 21:52 (six years ago)
I think the fact that Toni was sucked into a prosperity church says a lot - the pastor is (was? lol) a bullshit artist like Tim (though maybe more self aware)
