I disagree in every particular; found it just overwhelmingly dreary

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 2 January 2020 04:17 (six years ago)

I can see not liking it but thought it was so unusual

Dan S, Thursday, 2 January 2020 04:26 (six years ago)

wouldn't have thought that such a constantly moving camera could be that subduing, but it really drew me in

Dan S, Thursday, 2 January 2020 04:40 (six years ago)

honestly gun to my head you could erase every Tarantino movie except Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and I would feel a mild sadness but it would be an easy choice

Don't trash movies you haven't seen

flappy bird, Thursday, 2 January 2020 05:17 (six years ago)

Get rid of Jackie Brown over my dead body.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Thursday, 2 January 2020 12:59 (six years ago)

Elephant Sitting Still was one of those movies I will never watch again but it was definitely a memorable experience.

Don't trash movies you haven't seen

i'm not trashing it, i'm trashing HIM. He's an immoral person and artist who is getting no more cultural oxygen from me.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 2 January 2020 19:15 (six years ago)

Jackie Brown was the last good thing i saw from him, and it is overrated.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 3 January 2020 16:59 (six years ago)

Wow, would not have expected a Tommy Lee Jones western to have tons of overcranked, reckless in-camera stuntwork F/X but sure let's give it a try!

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Friday, 3 January 2020 17:05 (six years ago)

the most deeply affecting western since Unforgiven

you lost me immediately by not acknowledging meek's cutoff

Cool, good luck selling fans of MM:FR on it then.

the commonality: transporting traumatized women through the desert

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 3 January 2020 17:08 (six years ago)

OTOH, i am here for any love for Seidl's Paradise Trilogy which i consider HIGHLY underrated

i dunno about hard to be a god being underrated (i think it's universally beloved?) but it was one of the more hallucinatory experiences i've ever had in a theater.

Still need to see Capernaum
will add Homesman and Ingrid Goes West to the watch list
gonna continue passing on The Bad Batch

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 3 January 2020 17:22 (six years ago)

Paradise trilogy is good, but I kinda think Faith is the weakest part.

Ingrid Goes West is great

flappy bird, Friday, 3 January 2020 18:31 (six years ago)

Alex Ross Perry picking Hard to be a God reminded me that I was thinking about it the other day - it’s really stayed with me in a way that would suggest I enjoyed it a lot more than I did. I only watched it once, I should give it another watch; I have it on dvd.

Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Friday, 3 January 2020 18:38 (six years ago)

hate to be that (god) guy but i can't imagine it having near the same impact on a tv screen as it would in a theater? just too much visual information!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 3 January 2020 18:49 (six years ago)

Yeah, maybe that’s why I never watched the dvd - for a film so immensely...filthy a bigger screen is better.

There should be a fan-made Uncut Gems poster in this style.

I recently watched Apollo 11. The earnest fact and science-based world documented in it by the archival footage seems like the antithesis of our world now
