Thanks Zing, that really added to that post.

also known as Black Eye Friday

anyway, hangover, drank more than i shd've but it was ok in the circumstances, most of the remorse was chemical. i've actually had to do a bunch of grown-up sorting my life out phone calls the last couple of days and alongside the usual pre-Christmas chores every ounce of me wanted to retire under the duvet but shit i made it i feel well not strong but y'know :D :D :D

You (legitimately) love to see it. What are you doing for the Christmas?

going to mom's which means no Playstation and overexposure to bad TV for a week but hey, Christmas, it's all part of the occasion

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:38 (four years ago) link

What do you play on the PS4? Also I didn’t realise people outside the Midlands said “mom”!

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:41 (four years ago) link

I grew up in the Midlands so it's Mom. Still on PS3 tbh but I got Atelier Meruru for my birthday and I'm deeply in love with it.

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:25 (four years ago) link

Actually years of Hullness means I alternate between mom and mam

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:27 (four years ago) link

Oh that makes sense. Honestly think buying a ps3 for £50 was one of my best purchases of recent years, I’m very slowly doing all the old MGS games.

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:34 (four years ago) link

ive been pondering how much of an investment it would take to get a PS2 era pro evo operating without actually having a PS2 within mrs macs eyeline

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:37 (four years ago) link

I keep thinking about getting that HD reboot of the MGSes, our Joel loves them but I dunno if I'm patient enough. They look beautifully mad tho.

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:38 (four years ago) link

xp like emulators or compatibility? I have to admit I don’t miss our PS2 at all, that fucker sounded like a jet engine after ~20000 hours of Tekken Tag Tournament

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:43 (four years ago) link

xp strong recommend, they’re ludicrous. Full of what the fuck moments all over from start to finish (including the Irish language song over the credits of MGS)

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:44 (four years ago) link

emulator would require me to up the juice on my under-tv pc and i cannot justify it tbh

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:47 (four years ago) link

What have you got atm that you’re mulling over then?

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:52 (four years ago) link

i get about as far as weve just reached tbh

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:56 (four years ago) link

ive an xbox one on loan. too advanced tbh.

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:57 (four years ago) link

Second hand PS2 probably costs buttons but I realise that defeats the object

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 15:05 (four years ago) link

NV the Yakuza ps3 games are good, they’re all getting remade atm, but if you’re interested you could have them?

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 15:05 (four years ago) link

Cheers g, I've looked at them too but I'm good for now thanks, I usually spend weeks on a game and I've still got another couple of Ateliers I'm eyeing up before Persona 5 Royal comes out and then I have to get a PS4. And I've finally got my head around last year's Football Manager so I'm not short of frivolous distractions atm

my sister's BF has sourced a snack-sized turducken, except he calls it "turgenduck" -- he is now singing the word "turgenduck" to the tune of "agadoo"

we are listening to a radio v4 drama called "the christmas present" even tho none of us remotely enjoys radio drama. the xmas eve ep of the archers was blurbed thus: "it's jim's big day"

mark s, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 14:32 (four years ago) link

thrilled for jim tbh, he deserves it

Making the gravy for tomorrow (the Jamie Oliver recipe with medlar jelly instead of cranberry sauce flung in at the end) and then after getting dressed for dinner, going to Polish Christmas Eve in NW5 - friend’s mum that usually hosts an army in Chippenham is between old house and new house, so her son (my friend C) is the host this year.

I’ve just come back from the central Londoner’s Christmas Eve perk of touring the little Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and M&S for steeply reduced posh food - picked up quite a few prawn things, ham, and truffled Brie.

santa clause four (suzy), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 14:59 (four years ago) link

the best radio drama action is on 4 extra - a *star* studded Thunderball adaptation with Tom Conti and celebrity UKIP voter John Sessions. TBH I'm actually enjoying it!

as judge jeffreys (= the worst person from wem)

runners up: the critic hazlitt and grouty from porridge aka maester aemon

mark s, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 16:24 (four years ago) link

judge jeffreys' "first major trial in James' reign was that of Titus Oates. While there is no doubt of Oates' guilt, Jeffreys' conduct was no more decorous than usual; the latter part of the trial has been described as such an exchange of insults between Jeffreys and Oates as to make it doubtful if proceedings could continue."

(he behaves humorously badly in this story also lol)

mark s, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 16:28 (four years ago) link

I've read some revisionist accounts of Jeffreys that reckon a lot of his awfulness was exaggerated by Whig propagandists, which Macaulay relished and amplified, but I'm happy to believe he was an angry drunky vengeful monarchist lapdog tbh and Macaulay's anecdotes are pretty funnny

Francis Barlow made a comic strip about the Popish Plot and Oates in 1682 named A True Narrative of the Horrid Hellish Popish-Plot, which is generally considered the earliest example of a signed balloon comic strip.[10]

Even when he was sober, his violence was sufficiently frightful. But in general his reason was overclouded and his evil passions stimulated by the fumes of intoxication. His evenings were ordinarily given to revelry. People who saw him only over his bottle would have supposed him to be a man gross indeed, sottish, and addicted to low company and low merriment, but social and goodhumoured. He was constantly surrounded on such occasions by buffoons selected, for the most part, from among the vilest pettifoggers who practiced before him. These men bantered and abused each other for his entertainment. He joined in their ribald talk, sang catches with them, and, when his head grew hot, hugged and kissed them in an ecstasy of drunken fondness. But though wine at first seemed to soften his heart, the effect a few hours later was very different. He often came to the judgment seat, having kept the court waiting long, and yet having but half slept off his debauch, his cheeks on fire, his eyes staring like those of a maniac. When he was in this state, his boon companions of the preceding night, if they were wise, kept out of his way: for the recollection of the familiarity to which he had admitted them inflamed his malignity; and he was sure to take every opportunity of overwhelming them with execration and invective. Not the least odious of his many odious peculiarities was the pleasure which he took in publicly browbeating and mortifying those whom, in his fits of maudlin tenderness, he had encouraged to presume on his favour.

here comes the blue wave, stuck here in I don't know, unsure whether this feeling of static unspoken sadness and empty routine is my fault somehow or the natural ambience of the home I grew up in

or the truth in the middle, melty

fuck me is this a life I wonder if I'm not getting where my emptiness comes from or just letting my own self-important gloom cover every scene around me

could really do with a cig and some time in the pub but not here
