i mean don't get me wrong they're adequate if you're with somebody and/or you're on a crawl. also Han likes eating there because it's straightforward food she likes (going veggie so this may change) but more importantly she's really into using the app to order from your table, it feeds her control freak instincts

deems I have to say this is a rare occasion where I have a better dn than you, yours physically hurts me

the first two á sounds so close together though

glindr jackson (gyac), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 21:21 (four years ago) link

but you have to pronounce it like mná innit

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 21:22 (four years ago) link

Oh you should see the Heaney doc Gyac, I thought it was brilliant. A pastoral portrait of the poet through the eyes of his wife and brothers. Slow poetry readings. Images of peat and bogs. How handsome he was! Winning doc imo, hope you recorded it.

Shit, wrong thread. An Irish takeover of Blue Saturday will do that to one.

"All I know is a door into the dark."

- Bob Marley Seamus Heaney

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 17 December 2019 21:43 (four years ago) link

Lol it’s fine, we had the Twink voicemail to revive this thread. I will look now that you’ve reminded me. I was thinking about Heaney today actually; I have had bits The Harvest Bow floating around my head all week.

And if I spy into its golden loops
I see us walk between the railway slopes
Into an evening of long grass and midges,
Blue smoke straight up, old beds and ploughs in hedges,
An auction notice on an outhouse wall--
You with a harvest bow in your lapel,

Oh Mad Friday, you are the finest day of the year

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2019 19:27 (four years ago) link

It was 12 years ago today, that I broke my ankle on mad friday by trying to jump up some steps rather than sensibly walking up them after supping a skinful at work. Dud imo!

calzino, Friday, 20 December 2019 20:31 (four years ago) link

It's my favourite religious festival and altho I've had a couple I'm not too bad yet and it's classic catching up with mates in Yulestep Back mode

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2019 20:47 (four years ago) link

I had to look up mad Friday. Never heard of it before.

Thanks Zing, that really added to that post.

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:28 (four years ago) link

also known as Black Eye Friday

anyway, hangover, drank more than i shd've but it was ok in the circumstances, most of the remorse was chemical. i've actually had to do a bunch of grown-up sorting my life out phone calls the last couple of days and alongside the usual pre-Christmas chores every ounce of me wanted to retire under the duvet but shit i made it i feel well not strong but y'know :D :D :D

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:31 (four years ago) link

You (legitimately) love to see it. What are you doing for the Christmas?

Baby yoda laid an egg (wins), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:36 (four years ago) link

going to mom's which means no Playstation and overexposure to bad TV for a week but hey, Christmas, it's all part of the occasion

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:38 (four years ago) link

What do you play on the PS4? Also I didn’t realise people outside the Midlands said “mom”!

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 12:41 (four years ago) link

I grew up in the Midlands so it's Mom. Still on PS3 tbh but I got Atelier Meruru for my birthday and I'm deeply in love with it.

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:25 (four years ago) link

Actually years of Hullness means I alternate between mom and mam

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:27 (four years ago) link

Oh that makes sense. Honestly think buying a ps3 for £50 was one of my best purchases of recent years, I’m very slowly doing all the old MGS games.

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:34 (four years ago) link

ive been pondering how much of an investment it would take to get a PS2 era pro evo operating without actually having a PS2 within mrs macs eyeline

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:37 (four years ago) link

I keep thinking about getting that HD reboot of the MGSes, our Joel loves them but I dunno if I'm patient enough. They look beautifully mad tho.

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:38 (four years ago) link

xp like emulators or compatibility? I have to admit I don’t miss our PS2 at all, that fucker sounded like a jet engine after ~20000 hours of Tekken Tag Tournament

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:43 (four years ago) link

xp strong recommend, they’re ludicrous. Full of what the fuck moments all over from start to finish (including the Irish language song over the credits of MGS)

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:44 (four years ago) link

emulator would require me to up the juice on my under-tv pc and i cannot justify it tbh

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:47 (four years ago) link

What have you got atm that you’re mulling over then?

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:52 (four years ago) link

i get about as far as weve just reached tbh

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:56 (four years ago) link

ive an xbox one on loan. too advanced tbh.

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 23 December 2019 14:57 (four years ago) link

Second hand PS2 probably costs buttons but I realise that defeats the object

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 15:05 (four years ago) link

NV the Yakuza ps3 games are good, they’re all getting remade atm, but if you’re interested you could have them?

glindr jackson (gyac), Monday, 23 December 2019 15:05 (four years ago) link

Cheers g, I've looked at them too but I'm good for now thanks, I usually spend weeks on a game and I've still got another couple of Ateliers I'm eyeing up before Persona 5 Royal comes out and then I have to get a PS4. And I've finally got my head around last year's Football Manager so I'm not short of frivolous distractions atm

a very powerful woman in the dog world (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 December 2019 15:09 (four years ago) link

Merry Christmas! In the car listening to Now That's What I Call Disney. No cats until I go to my brother's.

upstairs in the library bar at the central (best in town imo) with a single malt approvingly watching the yanks and the english diaspora doing it correctly

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 12:03 (four years ago) link

that’s a good place that is.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 12:57 (four years ago) link

merry christmas all. just ion a bus heading back home and thinking about an afternoon beer.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 12:58 (four years ago) link

on the ferry to belfast, just spent 20 minutes teaching my daughter to drive the batmobile in front of a batman arcade cab on display mode

reckon she’ll be fine to drive us to her grandparents when it’s time to disembark

Why would you be going there (no offence bg)

glindr jackson (gyac), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 13:35 (four years ago) link

it’s my wife’s place of birth

alas

brought a kiss to the knife fight (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 13:38 (four years ago) link

Alas indeed. Nah, I haven’t been to Belfast since the Clinton presidency, people say it’s nice to visit? I’m so curious about the black taxis.

glindr jackson (gyac), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 14:04 (four years ago) link

it doesn’t feel too different to glasgow (for good and for ill) tbh

brought a kiss to the knife fight (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 14:25 (four years ago) link

my sister's BF has sourced a snack-sized turducken, except he calls it "turgenduck" -- he is now singing the word "turgenduck" to the tune of "agadoo"

we are listening to a radio v4 drama called "the christmas present" even tho none of us remotely enjoys radio drama. the xmas eve ep of the archers was blurbed thus: "it's jim's big day"

mark s, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 14:32 (four years ago) link

thrilled for jim tbh, he deserves it

Making the gravy for tomorrow (the Jamie Oliver recipe with medlar jelly instead of cranberry sauce flung in at the end) and then after getting dressed for dinner, going to Polish Christmas Eve in NW5 - friend’s mum that usually hosts an army in Chippenham is between old house and new house, so her son (my friend C) is the host this year.

I’ve just come back from the central Londoner’s Christmas Eve perk of touring the little Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and M&S for steeply reduced posh food - picked up quite a few prawn things, ham, and truffled Brie.
