Still a bit perplexed by how well High Life (FC's #7) is doing. Belated recognition of the director? It's probably in the poorer half of Denis's output, and among 2019's "lost in space" art films I liked Aniara more.

The Body Remembers... is on Netflix, at least in Canada. I suspect Anne at 13,000 Ft will make some waves when it makes the rounds theatrically next year. (I haven't seen it but ppl I trust loved it, and it earns automatic points for its 75-minute runtime.)

You can always count on the week of the Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations throwing a big dose of ice bucket water on the whole season...

I know CLEMENCY is neither widely seen nor easy to watch, but to those who have, Alfre Woodard's near no-show in this year's awards season so far looks close to absurd: no American actor this year is working at a higher level of detail, complexity and emotional intuition.

At this point each year's Nat'l Film Registry list is about half eye-opening and incredibly cool-looking a-g or documentary works from the first half of the century, and half I Love the 80s/90s fodder.
