i guess i don't know how anyone watches that preview and thinks "hm, this looks good!"

I don't know how anyone watches the last, oh, 15 Woody Allen movies and thinks, "hm, his next could be in my top 10 this year!"

I haven't seen the trailer. I saw Woody's movies out of habit, and usually half the fun was the fossilized crowd.

Glamorous NYC locations, glitzy party scenes, movie stars delivering amazing well-rehearsed performances, and razor-sharp jokes about things like prostitutes and the morning-after pill - whats not to love, looks like another Woody classic!

So, the live action remake of The Lion King is an animated film?

Not sure about Bale and Pryce, but otherwise we're looking at many Oscar nominees next month.

And maybe winners ... I had to go back and check and, indeed, nearly everything that won a Golden Globe last year went on to win the Oscar -- Green Book, Cuaron, Malek, Coleman, Ali, King, Green Book's screenplay, "Shallow" for song, Spider-Verse for animated, Roma for foreign film. The only single miss was First Man for original score.

He would've been replaced by the similarly craggy Dafoe, probably.

Consensus seems to be "decent movie that would have been intolerable if almost anyone else directed it"

Tom Hanks is phenomenal in it, all the Gondry-esque touches are cute/cool (but would have been better with Gondry), but it's mostly pretty meh

someone observed that the Esquire offices in the late '90s are seen as staffed significantly by women and people of color...
