the Tarantella is a musical or comedy, it seems

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 December 2019 13:59 (six years ago)

I completely forgot Where'd You Go, Bernadette existed

Simon H., Monday, 9 December 2019 14:00 (six years ago)

Ah here's that Two Popes Globe bump the world's been waiting for.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Monday, 9 December 2019 14:08 (six years ago)

god that movie looks like shit

Simon H., Monday, 9 December 2019 14:12 (six years ago)

Maybe needless to say, but the top headline I'm seeing on my Twitter feed this morning is that no female directors were nominated.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Monday, 9 December 2019 14:41 (six years ago)

btw Knives Out won best film from Phila critics

shocking disloyalty to Frank Sheeran

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 December 2019 15:33 (six years ago)

the Tarantino movie is a comedy, you'd know if you'd seen it!

flappy bird, Monday, 9 December 2019 17:58 (six years ago)

no smoke, but it really is a sweet comedy... one where brad pitt crushes a woman's skull on a mantelpiece, but that's qt for you

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 9 December 2019 18:52 (six years ago)

along those lines, not finalizing this year's list til the Woody Allen film is released

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 December 2019 18:55 (six years ago)

man, the preview on that really does look like dogshit

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 9 December 2019 19:12 (six years ago)

what, the Woody? did you see a trailer in Mexico, u?

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 December 2019 19:14 (six years ago)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 9 December 2019 19:33 (six years ago)

flappy bird, Monday, 9 December 2019 19:37 (six years ago)

Blue Jasmine is damp excrement.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 December 2019 19:46 (six years ago)

i guess i don't know how anyone watches that preview and thinks "hm, this looks good!"

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 9 December 2019 20:03 (six years ago)

I don't know how anyone watches the last, oh, 15 Woody Allen movies and thinks, "hm, his next could be in my top 10 this year!"

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Monday, 9 December 2019 20:06 (six years ago)

I haven't seen the trailer. I saw Woody's movies out of habit, and usually half the fun was the fossilized crowd.

flappy bird, Monday, 9 December 2019 20:07 (six years ago)

Glamorous NYC locations, glitzy party scenes, movie stars delivering amazing well-rehearsed performances, and razor-sharp jokes about things like prostitutes and the morning-after pill - whats not to love, looks like another Woody classic!

warn me about a lurking rake (One Eye Open), Monday, 9 December 2019 20:20 (six years ago)

is Timothee nude in it

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 December 2019 20:23 (six years ago)

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:13 (six years ago)

largely awful as always

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:14 (six years ago)

So, the live action remake of The Lion King is an animated film?

Maria Edgelord (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:35 (six years ago)

Not sure about Bale and Pryce, but otherwise we're looking at many Oscar nominees next month.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:38 (six years ago)

And maybe winners ... I had to go back and check and, indeed, nearly everything that won a Golden Globe last year went on to win the Oscar -- Green Book, Cuaron, Malek, Coleman, Ali, King, Green Book's screenplay, "Shallow" for song, Spider-Verse for animated, Roma for foreign film. The only single miss was First Man for original score.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:45 (six years ago)

is it wrong to expect a Marriage Story sweep

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:50 (six years ago)

and ugh Supporting Actor filled with slumming stars

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:54 (six years ago)

I hadn't even noticed that! so boring and shitty. Pacino especially really doesn't need to be in the mix

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:56 (six years ago)

He would've been replaced by the similarly craggy Dafoe, probably.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:59 (six years ago)

There's no way that category doesn't have a median age of 67 this year.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:59 (six years ago)

I can see Dafoe making it to Oscar nod, just to seal his comeback.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 15:02 (six years ago)

er, nom

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 15:02 (six years ago)

Don't nom my nod.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 15:04 (six years ago)

So, the live action remake of The Lion King is an animated film?

― Maria Edgelord (cryptosicko), Tuesday, December 10, 2019 6:35 AM (two hours ago)

It’s not live action and contains only animated performances so yes

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 16:57 (six years ago)

who is the lead in the Mr Rogers biopic, if the Mr Rogers actor is Supporting?

insecurity bear (sic), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 18:15 (six years ago)

Matthew Rhys as the ghost of Christmas past

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2019 18:19 (six years ago)

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 20:20 (six years ago)

xpost why in the world would anyone watch that

The Mandymoorian (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 20:21 (six years ago)

it's about an Esquire writer, sic

Mr Rogers is the savior

I already had no interest in this movie, now I'm Bret Easton Ellis ovah heah

insecurity bear (sic), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 20:44 (six years ago)

Consensus seems to be "decent movie that would have been intolerable if almost anyone else directed it"

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2019 20:47 (six years ago)

Tom Hanks is phenomenal in it, all the Gondry-esque touches are cute/cool (but would have been better with Gondry), but it's mostly pretty meh

The Mandymoorian (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 20:55 (six years ago)

someone observed that the Esquire offices in the late '90s are seen as staffed significantly by women and people of color...

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 21:04 (six years ago)

xp to whiney: because it's well edited (if painfully scored)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 21:13 (six years ago)

(and it is very much detritus)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 21:13 (six years ago)

Why would I want to watch a bunch of movie clips edited together for 14 minutes?

"Wow, what if someone made the montage that opens the Oscars but it had Midsommar in it!"

The Mandymoorian (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 21:28 (six years ago)
