i am pretty head over heels about boonmee and cemetery, and holy motors at no. 2 feels very right to me. i agree the von trier pick is safe but i also really love melancholia. also i haven't seen every film on the list lol

a couple of serious "hell yeah"s from me for that list which suggests I might want to watch other things on it

Brody for me is either dead on (rarely) or spectacularly off the mark, generally regarding some element of the film that didn't bother me at all.

I read Lane with pleasure until 2001 or two, after which he couldn't stop yawning in character.

Let me try a new answer: most of the films I was responding to are made by overrated auteurist darlings.

That describes most of the films we like too.

I liked Loznitsa's My Joy and Donbass and am curious about State Funeral, which was on Hoberman's and Quandt's lists

also re: Hoberman’s list, I think Christian Marclay’s 48 War Movies is really interesting, but if I’m going to vote for a video art installation it’s going to be Lisa Reihana’s In Pursuit of Venus (Infected) or JR’s The Chronicles of San Francisco

The direction and script are schematic, but Alfre Woodard is marvelous in Clemency, deserving the plaudits (as usual).

that's true of most von trier films IME. Melancholia is probably my favorite of his.

i'm aware this has been hashed out heavily in the relevant thread without me, but after three of his films (stopping at dogville), I've concluded i kinda fuckin' hate LVT and am okay not seeing any of his work ever again.

It took me three more than that, but yeah.

If y'all want detrius, here's my list of the decade's 50 best films.

Margaret isn't coming up on nearly enough lists. Also, this is the first time I've seen Stranger by the Lake or Being 17 appear on any of these things (I agree).

Moonlight is only like my 5th or 6th fave queer movie of the decade, but I definitely think its more than OK.

so many good to great queer films this decade that I don't have patience with lists omitting the rest but keeping Moonlight.

Personal Shopper the film that had probably the most impact on me and not seeing it on that many lists. Leave No Trace prolly my no.2. I'd like to see more love for Dredd, too.
