the most basic chess advice i guess is to get all yr pieces out and yr kings castled (aka developed, when your rooks have nothing between them [aka connected]) as quickly as possible with as few pawn moves as possible, dont move any piece more than once if you can help it until youre developed
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:43 (six years ago)
the second most basic piece of advice is to not leave pieces unprotected (aka guarded by other pieces or pawns), and likewise to target your opponents unprotected pieces
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:44 (six years ago)
the third most basic piece of advice is to keep yr pawns chained together
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:45 (six years ago)
if u do those things u cn prob get up to ~1000 pretty easy
(if u play a lot of games)
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:46 (six years ago)
also the middle of the board is the best part try to capture it

― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 20:04 (six years ago)

not sure whos turn to move it is but based on the body language looks like nash, if so hes in position to take the c pawn and equalize material, crosbys position is better considering the two advanced pawns but its a close game
if its crosbys turn hes up a pawn and has a better position so is clearly ahead, still playable for nash but crosby shd be able to convert
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 20:29 (six years ago)
p boring position tbqh
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 20:31 (six years ago)
anyway happy thanksgiving chess club gonna go honor the fallen pilgrims now
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 November 2019 20:32 (six years ago)
considering the game is being played on both sides of the board nashs bishop is prob a lil more valuable than crosbys knight...

the cool thing about chess is you can stay frustrated and feeling like you suck at it no matter how good you get

I'd completely forgotten about this thread and the fact that I wasted so much of 2005 playing internet chess against long-since-vanished ILXors.

Nf5 forking the king + rook, g6xf5, Ne6 forking the K+Q?
― Mordy, Saturday, 7 December 2019 15:56 (six years ago)
g6xf5 isn't necessary black can just lose the rook and not the queen but you did say sick so i'm guessing ^ is what actually happened
― Mordy, Saturday, 7 December 2019 16:00 (six years ago)
i did get the queen theyre both good tho, also i set it up w ne3 sacking my c pawn, was a proud moment
― lag∞n, Saturday, 7 December 2019 16:19 (six years ago)
I played twice irl with my friend yesterday and won both games, p cool. I need to switch to 10+0 from 5+3 online I think if I’m going to learn anything, in blitz I never have time for an endgame.

Is there a greater pleasure than flagging your opponent in a completely lost game
― unashamed and trash (Unctious), Saturday, 1 February 2020 17:42 (six years ago)
that's what drove me nuts in my so called chess career. spending my time in trying to win a won position. waiting for the opponent to resign and then fucking it all up myself. i felt that it wasn't fair when people play until they are mated. as if they have no dignity. i gave up on playing chess regularly when i was about 16.

― lag∞n, Saturday, 1 February 2020 18:07 (six years ago)
Ppl should definitely make me win my won positions bc I don’t really know how to win a lot of the time.
