there haven't really been good superhero cartoons since the Batman ones from the 90's/2000's.

if Teen Titans Go! is half as good as the movie, you are incorrect

oh right, that is good.

akm, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 23:49 (six years ago)

Hey DC, you don't have to try so hard to repel me with your increasingly-regressive, masturbatory output. You've already had overwhelming success in that arena. Take the win!

where is this running? on a channel absolutely no one watches?

the public eating of beans (Sparkle Motion), Wednesday, 13 November 2019 02:23 (six years ago)

two months pass...

Birds of Prey was fun if not exactly high art. kinda loses steam at the end but at least it isn't garbage Suicide Squad level drab.

zero Joker appearance too is nice.

ill fuckin put a paste on those (Neanderthal), Saturday, 8 February 2020 15:57 (six years ago)

At some point Harley Quinn -- a character I never heard of til I saw the trailer a week ago -- says "I voted for Bernie."

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 8 February 2020 16:01 (six years ago)

it's actually not said out loud, tehre are points she lists her enemies grievances with her and one of them is 'Voted for Bernie'

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 February 2020 04:05 (six years ago)

(it was a fun movie, could've been better. liked the cast)

Nhex, Monday, 10 February 2020 04:05 (six years ago)

ppl are wondering why this film flopped and tbh i haven't seen much in the way of advertising for it out there, seemed like there wasn't a lot of heavy promotion beyond trailers.

omar little, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:29 (six years ago)

I haven't seen a single billboard or bus stop ad for it. I don't watch TV with ads much so no idea if there were commercials. but the hype seemed significantly less than previous DC films. Probably seeing it this weekend assuming it's still playing (never saw suicide squad and not interested really at this point but this sounds better)

akm, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:34 (six years ago)

I saw plenty of advertising, but the idea of people wanted to watch anything spun off from Suicide Squad, even the least awful part of it, seems insane. And they are making a Suicide Squad 2 as well.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:37 (six years ago)

ppl are wondering why this film flopped

it's been out for four days and made its budget back already.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:42 (six years ago)

no way it's got to make like $300 worldwide to break even, it went $20 million below weekend estimates iirc, and they're already changing its title for online ticket sales.

omar little, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:50 (six years ago)

i assume it's ten times better than Suicide Squad of course

omar little, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:51 (six years ago)

Yeah, it far far far away from making back it's budget.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:51 (six years ago)

Is it me or do we do this anytime a blockbuster is called a flop?

Frederik B, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:52 (six years ago)

Whoa yeah, I saw an ad earlier today and idly thought 'Harley Quinn'? That's not right.' Didn't even occur to me they'd changed the title post-release.

Never change, DC, seriously. Great stuff.

Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:54 (six years ago)

and they're doing a soft reboot of suicide squad next year

wasdnuos (abanana), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 23:56 (six years ago)

they immediately decide anything that doesn't break records is a flop these days

akm, Wednesday, 12 February 2020 00:39 (six years ago)

the reboot is likely to be good since James Gunn directed

akm, Wednesday, 12 February 2020 00:39 (six years ago)

They all jump into a fire pit into the first ten minutes

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 12 February 2020 00:42 (six years ago)

I said made budget, not is in profit

Just think there’s a chance it’ll sell more tickets before the week is out, us here deciding once and for all *why* it’s a flop could probably wait until it’s had the opportunity to actually become a flop

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Wednesday, 12 February 2020 01:23 (six years ago)

Can't wait to see what title they go with next week!

Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 12 February 2020 01:44 (six years ago)

The title change in the AMC app was weird. Never seen them do that with any film.
I think good reviews/word of mouth will give it better legs than most of these movies, given the lower-than-expected opening weekend.
Besides, what are people gonna go see this month? Sonic the Hedgehog? Brahms: The Boy II? The serious horror remake of Fantasy Island? (well ok, I may see one or more of these out of morbid curiosity, but still... pretty bad month).

😬

Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog exploded onto screens this Presidents' Day weekend, delivering the largest opening weekend ever for a video game adaptation to go along with an estimated $68 million, four-day holiday debut. Meanwhile Sony's Fantasy Island and Universal's The Photograph are neck-and-neck in a race for third and Searchlight's Downhill finished just inside the top ten.

With an estimated $57 million three-day performance, Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog topped last May's Pokemon Detective Pikachu to become the largest three-day opening ever for a video game adaptation. The film, based on the iconic SEGA video game, is expected to finish around $68 million for the four-day holiday frame, which would be the fourth largest Presidents' Day opening ever, with some anticipating the film will top $70 million by the time the long, holiday weekend is over.

Sonic not only performed well this weekend, it was a hit with audiences, earning an "A" CinemaScore to go along with a 95% audience rating on RottenTomatoes. Opening weekend crowds were 56% male with 70% of the audience coming in aged under 25 years old.

omar little, Monday, 17 February 2020 03:07 (six years ago)

between this and detective pikachu, we're gonna be fucking bombarded with video game movies over the next decade.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Monday, 17 February 2020 07:21 (six years ago)

i actually saw Sonic, tbh, thinking it was going to be a hilarious trainwreck.
it was a decent kids movie, very comparable to Detective Pikachu or Bumblebee, maybe a slight notch down but totally watchable.

Nhex, Monday, 17 February 2020 17:54 (six years ago)

What a disaster for the inevitability of inevitable disasters.

Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Monday, 17 February 2020 17:55 (six years ago)

Birds of Prey is fucking horrible. Never bothered with Suicide Squad and now I'm not very interested in the Gunn reboot either.

akm, Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:16 (six years ago)

I thought it was a pretty big step up from Suicide Squad

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:17 (six years ago)

I didn't watch a movie by the writer of S.W.A.T., and I didn't like a movie by the writer of Bumblebee, so now I've lost my previous interest in a film by the writer of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Dollarmite Is My Name (sic), Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:27 (six years ago)

Lots of missed opportunities there

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:36 (six years ago)

I didn't think Suicide Squad was as bad as the reviews said, based on the second version (extended edition? director's cut?).

I didn't actually think it was any good either, mind.
