yeah I was going to say that about the staging for the musical performances. this week, plus camille cabello's set, were pretty impressive.

akm, Monday, 28 October 2019 14:07 (six years ago)

Taylor Swift and Billy Eilish had cool staging too, esp BI with that box room that rotated

Apparently it's "funny" to deadname and misgender Caitlyn Jenner in order to make a Kanye joke.

very cool, SNL 👍!! pic.twitter.com/A60iigPJc0

The semi-purist O'Donoghue SNL episode. If you only saw the censored scripts. https://t.co/zMrA5iMJye

"I don't think I could possibly hate Coldplay any more than I do," I thought to myself before this episode

With an Extreme Burning (aka The Tormentor) (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 3 November 2019 07:18 (six years ago)

Did they basically make a seven minute campaign ad for Elizabeth Warren last night?

Frederik B, Sunday, 3 November 2019 12:59 (six years ago)

seemed like it

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Sunday, 3 November 2019 14:18 (six years ago)

The baghdadi dog should've been the cold open. I really appreciated the duolingo commercial.

Yerac, Sunday, 3 November 2019 14:30 (six years ago)

The gift meat segment had me helpless with laughter, due much more to the delivery of the lines than any greatness in the script.

A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 3 November 2019 18:07 (six years ago)

Aidy Bryant is becoming the new Kenan: just her presence and delivery will keep the worst sketch from completely sucking.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 3 November 2019 19:15 (six years ago)

Too little Kenan last night means that I barely laughed at all. On the positive side, because we got well after the show had started last night, we were able to fast forward through Coldplay.

yeah, I liked the Farrow & Ball sketch mainly for Aidy.

harry styles is good

american bradass (BradNelson), Sunday, 17 November 2019 15:52 (six years ago)

he is very good.

Yerac, Sunday, 17 November 2019 15:58 (six years ago)

It's interesting that between him and Chance, the best hosts this season have been host/musical guest combos. The "Joan" skit was one of the best things I've seen on SNL in a while; an already funny premise, well executed, that just keeps getting increasingly absurd.

Maria Edgelord (cryptosicko), Sunday, 17 November 2019 17:53 (six years ago)

And of course Timberlake has been a go-to as well. Chance is a more interesting hosting phenom, since he's not the product of some boy band triple-threat factory.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 17 November 2019 18:12 (six years ago)

I laughed a lot during that funeral sketch. And the drug one had some obvious jokes but I also thought it was great. He had a top monologue, not very many of those.

Yerac, Sunday, 17 November 2019 19:17 (six years ago)

I guess when SNL created their youtube channel, they checked the 'maximum' box under the Ads heading

cryborg (rip van wanko), Sunday, 17 November 2019 19:23 (six years ago)

i liked his monologue outfit, very Homer Simpson via Kramer

i authentically loled 3x during the "Joan" sketch bc i related and also bc Doug was so cute w his fat neck <3

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 18 November 2019 06:22 (six years ago)

I know Cecily Strong works with animal rescue and usually when there are dogs in sketches it seems like she's there so I wonder if this increase in dogs is completely due to her.

Doug stole the show

akm, Monday, 18 November 2019 14:24 (six years ago)

impeachment open sketch was fucking awful again

akm, Monday, 18 November 2019 14:32 (six years ago)

I can't remember the last time I actually thought a monologue was good, his was great

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 18 November 2019 14:54 (six years ago)

Joan bit was ace; Aidy's been on a whole new level lately (and she was hilarious from the beginning). Chris Redd killed, and I lol'd at Heidi Gardner fainting in the otherwise crapulent cold open. Hell, I even thought the otherwise always-meh Mooney was good as the Dean guy.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 18 November 2019 16:05 (six years ago)

History has been made, as last night featured the first SNL musical guest I have literally never heard of.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 24 November 2019 13:45 (six years ago)

me too and I thought she was awesome. granted I was so high I couldn't even stand up but I watched that performance of 1950 three times. Also, rest of the episode was pretty good for once this season. Even the debate sketch was funny.

akm, Sunday, 24 November 2019 15:35 (six years ago)

The political stuff remains deadly, but I liked the house party song and I laughed, somewhat to my shame, at the puppet skit.

I don’t know King Princess either, but she sounded promising. Something about the performance seemed off from a technical standpoint—the vocals were too low, maybe—but I’m curious enough to check her out on record.

Maria Edgelord (cryptosicko), Sunday, 24 November 2019 15:49 (six years ago)

there were a lot of taped backing vocals doing the harmony which is how that song sounds as recorded but I don't think they needed to be there but as I said somewhere else (maybe about LDR) that seems to be par for the course these days as annoying as it is. this will sound rockist of me but it was just kind of cool to see someone actually playing a guitar (well) and singing at the same time in a pop song.

akm, Sunday, 24 November 2019 15:51 (six years ago)

First song seemed super-compressed. Ferrell always brings the funny.

DJI, Sunday, 24 November 2019 17:46 (six years ago)

The drums were mic'd weird, I couldn't really hear the cymbals but I could see he was hitting them pretty hard.

nickn, Monday, 25 November 2019 06:31 (six years ago)

I googled them to see who they were and apparently the internet is mad™ about perfectly acceptable 90s style pop rock

With an Extreme Burning (aka The Tormentor) (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 25 November 2019 07:12 (six years ago)

Trying to remember if J. Lo's last appearance consisted mostly of sketches about how incredibly hot she was

"Third of the Storms" Jazz (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 8 December 2019 08:24 (six years ago)

Seriously what was going on with that

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Sunday, 8 December 2019 12:55 (six years ago)

You know what's better than watching Saturday Night Live live on Saturday night? Watching old Saturday Night Lives. Ran through the first three episodes of season 12 last night. Lorne's second year back, with the all-new (aside from season 11 carryovers Lovitz and Dunn and Miller) 'classic '80s' cast. Man, they sure started strong right out of the gate, certainly moreso than all of the other all-new casts I've seen. Secret MVP: Kevin Nealon. Here's to hoping Lorne quickly got over his obsession with having Sam Kinison and Buster Poindexter make regular appearances on the show.

Masters of Engilsh Litera-ture (Old Lunch), Sunday, 8 December 2019 14:15 (six years ago)

are these streaming somewhere? that was my favorite period (actually, the pre-Michaels return period was my favorite)

akm, Sunday, 8 December 2019 16:56 (six years ago)

As annoying as all of the fawning over J.Lo was in, like, three skits in a row, the last half of the ep was a total dead zone. Like, I don’t even get what was supposed to be funny about some of these sketches.

Maria Edgelord (cryptosicko), Sunday, 8 December 2019 18:29 (six years ago)
