Is there really no way to see further back than the last few hundred tweets on the timeline? I only go there once every few weeks, and I end up running out of things to read in 20 minutes. Is there some workaround, other than just randomly clicking on specific individuals I follow?

Just felt that frisson of excitement when I determined, for reasons unknown to me, jeopardy champion arthur chu has me blocked! Am I on a blocklist? Did I say something about him and don't recall it? Either way, this is a good development

I'm still bummed that Emily Nussbaum blocked me a few months ago. I think it's because I replied to something she retweeted and didn't untag her, and my reply got a bunch of likes. Seems weird to block someone because of that, but I don't what else it could be.

Tom Scharpling blocked me like six years ago. I was replying to one of his digs at something with what (I thought) was a clearly tongue in cheek response. Apparently it wasn't which, whatever, but I was sort of amazed that he blocked me within 30 seconds. It still stings when I see the official Best Show account retweet something I can't read, since I'm still a big fan of him.

for those of you in academia who also tweet - i'm tweeting about an aspect of my professional work that I've been thinking about in the context of recently published research by a colleague in my field. she is active on twitter professionally, tweets often about her research. when i give attribution to her work in my tweet, do you think it's better to 1) @ her 2) cite her w/ a link to the published paper, 3) or both? the etiquette of @ing some is not something i really understand. i want to give her credit for her work but in a way that won't annoy her, but like i could also see her being like "im on twitter why didnt you @ me"

if she is active on twitter professionally, use her @

if you don't otherwise have a link in your tweet you can link the paper but if your tweet is mainly to link something else you can leave out the link, imo

1st couple days or 2 sans Twitter I was reflexively picking up phone to check it etc. But since then I haven't even thought about it and am glad to have that time-waster out of my life.

Twitter is fucking great! Soooooo much better than Facebook. The key is to not follow depressing people.

There's some sort of analogy between all my liberal friends constantly retweeting the president and Ben Shapiro, and the Pic Pedant constantly retweeting that photo of the jaguar with aquamarine airbrushed eyes.

I'm considering getting back into twitter. with the proviso that i would just curate the hell out of my feed so i didn't get anyone talking about trump or posting "another day on the hell site" etc.

I think I still have all my filters in place from the last election, which helps
