I think he just does Weekend Update (he's been a writer since 2005 and became head writer in 2017)

The Rudy Ray Moore/Royal Family skit made me laugh. Kenan Thompson is still the best thing about this show by some distance.

The monologue was great. Very few are.

just caught up on the Woody episode, wow what an absolute disaster. that whole show I think the "five boys who play a different sport" line was the only thing that made me laugh

i thought the game show and local news skits at the beginning of this episode were 2 very good renditions of overused SNL rubrics

the opening political sketches are prob some of the most embarrassing "comedy" i've ever seen tho

Bowen Yang's weekend update bit was pretty good.

And every time I see Matthew Broderick, I can only think of how he killed two people and got off with a $175 fine.

I really like the proportions of chance the rapper's arms. So weird but I couldn't stop looking at them during the opening monologue.

This was a really bad episode. Everything seemed way underrehearsed.

Most of the sketches were undercooked or awkward (the flying one was a mess; the physical demands of the bit totally threw off any sense of rhythm or timing), but I thought the graveyard skit was really funny, and Chance was an engaging presence throughout the episode.

yeah he was a good host. musical performances were really good too. again, I was stoned so I found the whole episode amusing enough. the flying sketch started stupid but got funny for some reason.

Yeah, every time he's on SNL I end up feeling bad for not being more familiar with his output (though I had "Sunday Candy" high up on my tracks ballot of whichever year that was).

I also gotta say that the set design, lighting, etc for the musical performances has been outstanding this season.

Taylor Swift and Billy Eilish had cool staging too, esp BI with that box room that rotated

The baghdadi dog should've been the cold open. I really appreciated the duolingo commercial.

The gift meat segment had me helpless with laughter, due much more to the delivery of the lines than any greatness in the script.

Aidy Bryant is becoming the new Kenan: just her presence and delivery will keep the worst sketch from completely sucking.

Too little Kenan last night means that I barely laughed at all. On the positive side, because we got well after the show had started last night, we were able to fast forward through Coldplay.

he is very good.

It's interesting that between him and Chance, the best hosts this season have been host/musical guest combos. The "Joan" skit was one of the best things I've seen on SNL in a while; an already funny premise, well executed, that just keeps getting increasingly absurd.

And of course Timberlake has been a go-to as well. Chance is a more interesting hosting phenom, since he's not the product of some boy band triple-threat factory.

I laughed a lot during that funeral sketch. And the drug one had some obvious jokes but I also thought it was great. He had a top monologue, not very many of those.

I guess when SNL created their youtube channel, they checked the 'maximum' box under the Ads heading

So ... three live dogs in two episodes? I like where this is heading.

I know Cecily Strong works with animal rescue and usually when there are dogs in sketches it seems like she's there so I wonder if this increase in dogs is completely due to her.

I can't remember the last time I actually thought a monologue was good, his was great

Joan bit was ace; Aidy's been on a whole new level lately (and she was hilarious from the beginning). Chris Redd killed, and I lol'd at Heidi Gardner fainting in the otherwise crapulent cold open. Hell, I even thought the otherwise always-meh Mooney was good as the Dean guy.

History has been made, as last night featured the first SNL musical guest I have literally never heard of.
