Sadly not for me, especially not Wed 2nd. I might possibly be able to do Thu 3rd, but probably shouldn't due to work.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:00 (six years ago)

I might be able to come on the 3rd

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:03 (six years ago)

Ok let's tentatively go for Thurs.

Any other HH, South London locals?

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:27 (six years ago)

Me! Can't do any nights next week unfortunately

stet, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:35 (six years ago)

"If every time I lost a case I was called on to resign I would probably have never had a practice," says Geoffrey Cox.

*smile at camera*

nashwan, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:37 (six years ago)

nashwan, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:38 (six years ago)

Cool let's see where we're at. We could delay till end of month.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:40 (six years ago)

The soon to be sacked Geoffrey Cox also welcome.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:40 (six years ago)

Drinks are on him, though - literally or not left to individual taste.

(I could also make this!)

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:53 (six years ago)

i think i can make this (effortfully walls five metres down road) tho like stet next week not amazing.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 19:49 (six years ago)

Fizzles, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 19:53 (six years ago)

Fizzles, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 19:54 (six years ago)

Next Thursday would work. Since it sounds like some can’t make it we could do another towards the end of the month/start of Nov?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 26 September 2019 09:34 (six years ago)

Sounds good.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 26 September 2019 09:46 (six years ago)

Let's go for the commercial

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 26 September 2019 09:46 (six years ago)

I agree with Fizzles.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 26 September 2019 10:10 (six years ago)

So are we doing this thing then?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 09:02 (six years ago)

I am planning to be there (though the chances are I won't make it until about 7.30).

Tim, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 09:05 (six years ago)

Fuck, I'm not sure about this one, plus it's tomorrow!

Let them eat Pfifferlinge an Schneckensauce (Tom D.), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 09:13 (six years ago)

I will swing by, but probably not for long.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 09:15 (six years ago)

Will be there by six-ish I reckon.

See you then!

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 10:02 (six years ago)

Fizzles? Farrell? Poo?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 14:55 (six years ago)

No worries if this experiment in non-central drinking yields low numbers or you all want to do something at the end of the month I'll be at the commercial reading over a drink anyway.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:24 (six years ago)

I hope to attend.

the pinefox, Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:29 (six years ago)

All being well I'll have a finished copy of the book I've been working on for a couple of years - I did the final print run last night.

Tim, Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:41 (six years ago)

Ooh that’s exciting. PF I was just coming to check if you were.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:43 (six years ago)

I'm going to have to play this one by ear I think. Might see you later. Will be there at 7ish if I am coming

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 3 October 2019 09:43 (six years ago)

Aw hope you do.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 3 October 2019 09:51 (six years ago)

Will prob get there around 6:15

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 3 October 2019 15:50 (six years ago)

Cool

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 October 2019 16:13 (six years ago)

Or 6:50 because the trains fucking suck.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 3 October 2019 17:46 (six years ago)

Cool, just got to the commercial now

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 October 2019 17:47 (six years ago)

Good group of us here now! 👍

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 October 2019 18:26 (six years ago)

regards to some 😘

all over bar the shouting (im here for the shouting) (darraghmac), Thursday, 3 October 2019 19:52 (six years ago)

"Is E____ terrorising you?"
"She's doing as she does"

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 3 October 2019 20:01 (six years ago)

That almost went horribly wrong. All the trains from Herne Hill were cancelled but I managed to get a bus and 2 tubes to London Bridge and my train arrives in 7 minutes. then in theory I get a bus from Tunbridge Wells and I get home about 2:30 if I'm lucky...

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 3 October 2019 22:48 (six years ago)

Once again I completely avoided talking to Fizzles. I swear I'm not doing this deliberately

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 3 October 2019 22:49 (six years ago)

Blimey, for once things are working out, if my train existed I would be arriving at Hastings now but the bus actually turned up this time and just stopped at Battle so I might even get home before 2!

Colonel Poo, Friday, 4 October 2019 00:34 (six years ago)

Hope you got home ok

xyzzzz__, Friday, 4 October 2019 05:35 (six years ago)

Thanks all for a nice eve

xyzzzz__, Friday, 4 October 2019 05:36 (six years ago)

I had a fine time, thanks all.

Fizzles, this was the book I was recommending: https://www.influxpress.com/attrib-and-other-stories

Tim, Friday, 4 October 2019 06:10 (six years ago)

Thanks Tim. And it's always a real pleasure - doubly so to see ilx faces in your familiar local. Colonel Poo's frosty high-hatting of me notwithstanding.

Fizzles, Friday, 4 October 2019 12:40 (six years ago)

having popped back in the commercial while waiting for a chinese takeaway i realise pinefox’s pleasantry about Belly was in fact anchored in the actual music they were playing.

Fizzles, Friday, 4 October 2019 21:03 (six years ago)

I had a fine time, thanks all.

Fizzles, this was the book I was recommending: https://www.influxpress.com/attrib-and-other-stories🕸

this is excellent - thanks Tim.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 07:10 (six years ago)

That book sounds quite worth looking at!

Fizzles, if I mentioned Belly it was because they were playing 'Feed The Tree'.

the pinefox, Monday, 7 October 2019 10:04 (six years ago)

Ah, yes, that's what they were playing the other night as well.

Eley Williams has enormous fun with the sound and look of language, and the heft of words and their relation to perception and memory. Normally I'm a little wary of the poeticisation of prose, but I don't think that's what's happening here. It reminds me more of Robert Louis Stevenson's approach to sentence construction, where he recommends an awareness of the patterns of sound across sentences. Love and loss are specifically realised through this prism of language and thought, which makes their representation more elliptical than more conventional representations of those emotions, but more pointed, more tender, with a bursting sense of things felt but not directly expressed so that, to quote Isaac Rosenberg, they are 'understandable but still ungraspable'.

Fizzles, Monday, 7 October 2019 11:01 (six years ago)

A brutal comedown.

Thanks to everyone who has come to find me in Brixton - now having lunch in Morley’s - out and about again at about 1 pic.twitter.com/CiJsiFOVhb

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 14:25 (six years ago)

When’s the next one? I’d like to go to one eventually...
