Aston "Family Court" Barrett (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 11:47 (six years ago)

Excited about the prospect of impeachment, even more excited about the prospect of every president from now to the future facing calls of impeachment. Impeachmentum!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 13:45 (six years ago)

Michelle Malkin is probably already writing a book called "The Case for Impeaching (Eventual Democrat President-elect)."

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 13:49 (six years ago)

So Rudy went on TV and said he talked to Ukraine at the behest of the State Department? (A day or so after Pompeo professed ignorance of the whole affair?) And even Frettin' Fox n Friends has conceded that "If the president said 'I will give you the money but you've got to investigate Joe Biden,' that is really off-the-rails wrong."

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 13:50 (six years ago)

Whatever Trump actually said is probably so meandering and digressive that no one will be able to follow it

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 13:52 (six years ago)

He was probably pressuring Ukraine to praise the huge turnout at his inauguration

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 13:57 (six years ago)

the Nixon tapes are like that too, really

The first responsibility of the President of the United States is to keep our country safe, but it has become clear that our president has placed his personal interests above the national security of our nation. I believe articles of impeachment are warranted. My statement: pic.twitter.com/LXzsMResqt

this dude is basically a Republican so yeah I'd say the tide is turning a bit

frogbs, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 14:00 (six years ago)

It really is so ridiculous to not pursue impeachment because you're worried about the vulnerability of certain house races, if, when you do have or get or secure the house, you do nothing because etc.

Of course, another question is what to do if the fever pitch reaches a peak before the whistleblower report comes out, or even before the (acting!) DNI testifies behind closed doors on Thursday, and the report is inclusive or vague or whatever. I think the Dems should be prepared to go forward anyway, because the president is a criminal, but they'll need to have all their other charges in order, just in case, and that's the only real concern for caution I can see.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 14:08 (six years ago)

This really isn't rocket science for Dems.

You open the hearings, and vote to impeach, all the while continuing to hammer away this point, every day, every hour: that's it's a foregone conclusion the Senate will exonerate.

Just take that supposed "victory" away from them, start framing up the certainty of their failure to convict as part of a cover-up, an abdication of constituitional responsibilty.

Put them in a fucking box. Let them prove you wrong. Jeez.

The Ravishing of ROFL Stein (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 14:29 (six years ago)

Best case: you peel off some purple-state R's and throw this motherfucker out

Worst case: those same purple R's have to take their exoneration on the campaign trail

The Ravishing of ROFL Stein (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 14:30 (six years ago)

OTM. Impeachment in the house is a club to beat Trump with, Senate failure to convict can be a blunt instrument to beat the GOP with. xp

WmC, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 14:32 (six years ago)

I realize he's running for president and he's under personal attack, including calls for the electric chair (!), but I kind of wish Joe Biden would just stay silent and let this play out with the people in charge. He's really got nothing to add to the story or investigation right now.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 15:05 (six years ago)

(Biden gently cups your buttocks, whispers 'I'll be fine, sweetheart', nuzzles back of your neck with his nose)

the impeachment talk must've kept him up all night poor guy

this is one of the oddest speeches Trump has delivered. He's reading menacing stuff, but doing so as though he's trying to put people to sleep. #unga pic.twitter.com/gUClxMsUk4

That whole thread is worth a scan. My fave so far may be were he says "fire" instead of "tire" and just barfs it out like "fire or tire" is a real phrase.

President Trump was surrounded by like-minded company when the speeches began in the cavernous General Assembly hall on Manhattan’s East Side. He was preceded by President Jair M. Bolsonaro of Brazil, sometimes called the mini-Trump, a polarizing figure at home who, like Mr. Trump, dismisses fears about climate change and disparages critics on Twitter.

After Mr. Trump comes President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, the former general who has come to symbolize the repression of the Arab Spring revolutions — although his appearance was thrown into doubt this past weekend as protests erupted at home. Then comes President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, an autocrat who has bullied critics and whose government is a leading jailer of journalists.

Man, Trump is such a slug he even makes Boris Johnson look ok in comparison.

Dick Durbin has at least one right idea. Because the WH refuses to cooperate with anything, from subpoenas on down, what other choice do they have but to launch a formal impeachment investigation?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:05 (six years ago)

Very solid #Dem House leadership source just confirmed to me that @SpeakerPelosi will announce a formal impeachment inquiry this afternoon and imply that she herself favors impeachment of @realDonaldTrump.

better to learn about it here than on Twitter where six thousand people post the Meryl Streep gif at the Golden Globes.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:13 (six years ago)

So, while we're here, things are finally, formally turning on impeachment, Netanyahu is poised to GTFO, Johnson is prepping his resume for the UK Dancing with the Stars ...

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:16 (six years ago)

I’d actually wager that we’re about to enter the most dangerous, uncertain phase of all. They aren’t going to go down quietly, and there not going to play by the rules.

Sally Jessy (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:21 (six years ago)

None of those eggs are chickens. xp

WmC, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:23 (six years ago)

Or, maybe they'll shit their pants, awkwardly back out of the chamber, and never be seen from again.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:23 (six years ago)

Happy to hear this. Maybe it is for the best it is getting started now and not several months back. This looks like a more cut and dry issue than anything in the Mueller report. By the time that one came out, the public saw it as “underwhelming.”

treeship., Tuesday, 24 September 2019 17:25 (six years ago)

Better that impeachment wasn’t already “wrapped up” when this dropped is what I’m saying. Maybe Pelosi is OK.
