I actually resent any day that I can't go to a lake or river. It's becoming a problem, to the point where it's informing my developing 5- and 10-year plans for my life.

i didn't get any summer fun this summer so september's arrival means very little to me. it's just another month and a step closer to November.

the psychic relief of today's overcast skies and highs in the mid-80s is inexpressible using human language after weeks of relentless sun-and-105-degrees. of course the air is so thick with humidity that breathing feels like scooping ice cream fresh from the freezer but we're supposed to get a front next week that should dry things out a bit!

Southern hemisphere experience: imagine going through lockdown and social isolation during winter. I live in an apartment where exactly 2 windows admit sunlight for ~40 minutes a day, and I get seasonal affective disorder even when I live in well lit houses, so yeah 2020 has been the worst year ever. But now it's spring.

Am definitely worried about the coming winter in the northern hemisphere

ugh, sympathy. I remember my winter in Montreal when I had no idea SAD would be a thing, the early darkness drove me half crazy

the fires in northern California, basically cutting off access to outdoor activities, have definitely sucked. has someone coined Climate Affective Disorder yet

I'm looking forward to being able to turn off the air conditioner at night--it's not really working well, so it's spilling water down the walls into a bucket on the floor. It also doesn't really keep us as cool as it should.

Last time in the water today, maybe, since it's getting cold at night and the lake is gonna lose heat. I'm toughing it out though.

It seems like September the last few years in the DC area was just "August Part 2" with relentless 90 degree temperatures, etc. This right now is more in line with historical norms so enjoy it while it lasts and heat through October becomes normal.
