upper nineties every day still, will none of these lazy insignificant fronts deliver me from this meddlesome summer?

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Monday, 23 September 2019 13:47 (four years ago) link

It's 88 degrees in NYC so naturally I'm going...further south. Great.

central texas... high today was 100, just like 43 of the last 50 days.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 00:27 (four years ago) link

Sheesh. We're finally done with 100s and prob had last 90 over the weekend. My AC unit appreciates the respite.

two weeks pass...

October 10th, 99 degrees here in Austin... might hit 100. Tomorrow, though... our September begins! ARCTIC BLAST will take us down into the 40s overnight

September/October in the UK: muted surprise that horse chestnuts lose their leaves so early; ribbons of rain marching across the horizon; a bumbling, six-legged fuckwit batters itself senseless inside every lampshade.

I didn’t get any days in the water this summer.

Notes on Scampo (tokyo rosemary), Tuesday, 1 September 2020 18:31 (three years ago) link

;___________;

I actually resent any day that I can't go to a lake or river. It's becoming a problem, to the point where it's informing my developing 5- and 10-year plans for my life.

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Tuesday, 1 September 2020 18:46 (three years ago) link

i didn't get any summer fun this summer so september's arrival means very little to me. it's just another month and a step closer to November.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 1 September 2020 18:49 (three years ago) link

the psychic relief of today's overcast skies and highs in the mid-80s is inexpressible using human language after weeks of relentless sun-and-105-degrees. of course the air is so thick with humidity that breathing feels like scooping ice cream fresh from the freezer but we're supposed to get a front next week that should dry things out a bit!

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Thursday, 3 September 2020 00:18 (three years ago) link

Southern hemisphere experience: imagine going through lockdown and social isolation during winter. I live in an apartment where exactly 2 windows admit sunlight for ~40 minutes a day, and I get seasonal affective disorder even when I live in well lit houses, so yeah 2020 has been the worst year ever. But now it's spring.

assert (MatthewK), Thursday, 3 September 2020 00:45 (three years ago) link

Am definitely worried about the coming winter in the northern hemisphere

Dan S, Thursday, 3 September 2020 00:49 (three years ago) link

ugh, sympathy. I remember my winter in Montreal when I had no idea SAD would be a thing, the early darkness drove me half crazy

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Thursday, 3 September 2020 00:50 (three years ago) link

the fires in northern California, basically cutting off access to outdoor activities, have definitely sucked. has someone coined Climate Affective Disorder yet

lukas, Thursday, 3 September 2020 01:24 (three years ago) link

I'm looking forward to being able to turn off the air conditioner at night--it's not really working well, so it's spilling water down the walls into a bucket on the floor. It also doesn't really keep us as cool as it should.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 3 September 2020 01:41 (three years ago) link

haven't lived in that kind of environment, I kind of want to experience that

Dan S, Thursday, 3 September 2020 02:15 (three years ago) link

No you don't.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 3 September 2020 02:17 (three years ago) link

hell yes, first cold (cool) front of the year has arrived! thunderstorms and a fresh northwest wind. having my doors open and a cool breeze coming in completely changes the tenor of my quarantine

Last time in the water today, maybe, since it's getting cold at night and the lake is gonna lose heat. I'm toughing it out though.

It seems like September the last few years in the DC area was just "August Part 2" with relentless 90 degree temperatures, etc. This right now is more in line with historical norms so enjoy it while it lasts and heat through October becomes normal.

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 16:30 (three years ago) link

truly this is the most wonderful time of the year

I am hoping for a final week of summerishness just for one last day of lake swimming? Fine either way tho!
