i was wondering who this McNealy guy was

He is married to Susan McNealy; they live in Portola Valley, California, and have four sons: Maverick, Dakota, Colt, and Scout. Maverick, Dakota, and Colt currently[when?] attend Stanford University, while Scout is a high school student at the Harker School. He is known to be an enthusiastic ice hockey player and has been ranked as one of the best golfers in executive ranks.[4][15]

He is the commissioner of the Alternative Golf Association*** (known as "Flogton").[16]

McNealy is estimated to have a net worth of approximately $1 billion USD.[17]

***The Alternative Golf Association, also known as Flogton ("not golf" backwards), is a group of Silicon Valley executives that encourages golf participation by relaxing or ignoring traditional rules to reduce player frustration.[1][2][3] According to the National Golf Foundation, there were declines in golfers and rounds played compared to 2005. Flogton aspires to stimulate golf as snowboarding helped skiing. Patrick J. Gallagher (CEO), Scott McNealy (Commissioner) and Bob Lurie are involved with Flogton.

Flogton encourages nonconforming equipment such as lubricant applied to club faces, wedges textured like cheese graters and Polara Golf Ultimate Straight balls.[1]

Democratic donors aren’t great either btw

Breaking: The prominent Democratic donor and LGBTQ political activist Ed Buck was arrested Tuesday and charged with operating a drug house and providing methamphetamine to a 37-year-old man who overdosed last week, officials said. https://t.co/Y3CtR66oMG

This is why the NSC—and the entire national security apparatus created in *1947*—needs to be subject to congressional oversight and eventually abolished and replaced. https://t.co/Z8x8TUhRmi

cool, a hostage negotiator as the NSA. on one hand, taking a hostage is trump's signature negotiation move (i.e., threatening more tariffs on mexico unless they agreed to help prevent endangered migrant families from seeking safe haven in the united states). it's also the standard tactic of the republican party (government shutdowns, debt ceilings, etc).

of course, i assume o'brien's expertise is in resolving hostage negotiations, not creating them on a worldwide scale. i also imagine that things could tense between o'brien and trump because the latter truly believes himself to be the world's greatest negotiator even though he shits his pants in public on a daily basis

Has Rocky commented about what happened in Sweden? Is he ok being racist Trump's pet project to woo some young people?

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 15:15 (six years ago)

fwiu he has (pointedly?) said nothing about trump's "role" in the events at all

rob, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 15:16 (six years ago)

Scott subsequently found it “embarrassing” to tell Jared Kushner they’d had no meaningful contact with Rocky after his release, scuttling plans for a call between Kushner and the rapper. Eventually, Rocky’s manager stopped “returning our text messages” altogether. “All he had to do was do a two-minute call to say thank you,” Scott told Yahoo of the snub. “Rocky hasn’t even called us and said, ‘Hey, man, thank you guys. I appreciate it,’ in private. Just in private.”

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 15:17 (six years ago)

I see the STATES' RIGHTS!!!! people are at it again with Trump wanting to take away California's ability to set mileage standards. Such a principled group of people.

i thought the consensus on bolton was that he'd be ostracized from the republican world a la Bannon? seems to be doing just fine

Sally Jessy (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 20:54 (six years ago)

California's waiver is literally written into the Clean Air Act, there's no way this holds up in court.

xp

starting to think the “states rights” people really only cared about segregation, abortion and something something health insurance aCrOsS sTaTe LiNeS

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Wednesday, 18 September 2019 20:59 (six years ago)

This is not a states' rights argument! The Clean Air Act is a federal law, there's 40 years of precedent, the auto industry *wants* CA's standards, etc.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 21:07 (six years ago)

haha yeah it's not appease the auto industry it's all about the oil companies

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 21:38 (six years ago)

so apparently Trump is floating a memo supporting the Toomey-Manchin gun background check bill (which is pretty good tbh) w Senate GOP to test the waters. NRA already banging on against it, of course.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 22:10 (six years ago)

The proposal, which Trump himself has yet to endorse, was received coolly among Senate Republicans on Wednesday as the administration circulated it on Capitol Hill.

Similar to the stalled proposal from Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), it would expand background checks to all advertised commercial sales, including gun shows, closing what gun control advocates have deemed the “gun show loophole.”

Many Republicans have said they want to see what Trump is willing to endorse before saying what they would consider backing.

It's kind of amazing that this is happening at all, and Senate GOP is obviously looking for cover from Trump. If he bucked the NRA (which, tbh, I don't expect at all) how many of them would follow? That would be a crazy political test, lead to possible major schism in the party: those who will follow Trump wherever, and those who would see him as a traitor and a political liability.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 22:13 (six years ago)

looks like a classic "wedge issue" scenario tbh
