the whole new first team thing was kind of thrust upon us; we'd have been down by spring if we'd relied on Glenn Whelan, Alan Hutton, Albert Adomah, Tommy Elphick etc. which is why the fulham comparison were always wide of the mark, they were spending all that money bringing in e.g. Seri as an upgrade on Tom Cairney or whatever, whereas the core of our team is still built around Grealish, McGinn, Mings as the star players from last year (and obviously we would've kept Abraham too if Chelsea had been open to offers)

the concern is that the average level in the league this year is gonna be too high. i don't really know who the obvious relegation candidates are, even theoretically waste teams like Southampton and Brighton have got rated managers who know their business these days
