i love how trump constantly feels compelled to set the scene that's playing out in his head for everybody

Mother, May I Vape With Danger

idk whatever you call the My Three Sons episode that he envisions n front of him

Non stop chantar (crüt), Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:39 (six years ago)

This is so transparently about wanting to be seen as decisive and pro-active about anything whatsoever, so long as it's not guns or something of real consequence. I hate vapes, but I think this ban is disgusting. I also expect that bans on THC products are right around the corner.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:42 (six years ago)

Trump describes a dream he had/episode of Quincy he half-watched as if it were reality (perhaps prefaced with 'many people are saying'), world calls Trump out on preposterous claim, Trump humorlessly grouses that he was obviously just joking and any other take is just FAKE NEWS, lather, rinse, repeat, torch earth and salt remains.

Time to Make a Pizza Pact! (Old Lunch), Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:43 (six years ago)

I also expect that bans on THC products are right around the corner.

of course becasue it's not like the whole fucking issue is due to black market THC carts so banning them will definitly help.

I would encourage everyone to forward Trump news stories about the Electric Sun 20 so that we can hasten the complete dissolution of reality.

Time to Make a Pizza Pact! (Old Lunch), Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:48 (six years ago)

It's more about Juul stuff right? My daughter and her friends complain about its pervasiveness in their high school.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:15 (six years ago)

because they have fruit flavors ? they still make Boones Farm Strawberry Hill don't they ? I don't know any adults that drink that shit .

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:26 (six years ago)

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:26 (six years ago)

I don't think the CDC really knows what exactly it is yet. there seems to be a correlation to black market THC carts, potentially related to a thickening agent they've been using to make the carts appear more "real". from what I've heard a lot of the carts tested have Vitamin E oil in it, which is something you definitely can't smoke, but not all of 'em had it and some of the people hospitalized weren't using THC carts at all, so it's all a bit up in the air right now

the idea that this is just a bad batch of THC carts doesn't really make sense to me right now either, if that were true you'd expect there to be a ton of these cases concentrated in a specific area. but that's not really the case right now

frogbs, Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:32 (six years ago)

i think there are two issues at hand. First there are the deaths or whatever is going on there but there is also the thing with banning just flavored nicotine oils which seems stupid .

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:36 (six years ago)

Impetus was tainted/doctored/adulterated oil, honestly think they're conflating/confusing all sorts of stuff. Juul, ecigs, vaping tobacco, vaping cannabis, vaping concentrates, etc. They're not all interchangeable.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:38 (six years ago)

oh maybe it was just that Barron got caught vaping

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:43 (six years ago)

lol @ the notion that Trump gives one shit about Barron or even knows where he is at this particular moment

Im mainly pissed at getting kids addicted to shit that is harmful costly pays merchants of death and in the end bridges them very nicely to that product

Hunt3r, Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:48 (six years ago)

Ban flavored cyber imo

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 September 2019 15:55 (six years ago)

except keylime which is irresistible

Hunt3r, Thursday, 12 September 2019 16:00 (six years ago)

I don't support this banning, but I will say that a kid at my son's high school was murdered by two other kids in a botched Juul deal. I assume this isn't particularly common, and honestly don't know what to make of it.

The fuck? That’s crazy

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:41 (six years ago)

Did that make the news? Because I feel like I should have heard about that.

brigadier pudding (DJP), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:42 (six years ago)

It made the news in Austin, TX. Kid was stabbed to death by two middle schoolers.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:43 (six years ago)

lol howsabout making of it a move to a new school district

j., Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:43 (six years ago)

what exactly is a "botched juul deal"? A bulk sale?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:43 (six years ago)

Who knows? This article claims it was over THC vapes, but I've heard Juuls as well

Yeah, because it's just that simple, right?

It is absolutely nowhere near that extreme, but a friend of mine told me that her son (who is in ...11th grade I think?) has a favored bathroom in which to take a dump (as kids are wont to do), but that particular remote bathroom is also a favored spot for vapers, and it's gotten so bad and backwards that *they* complain to *him* - tease/bully, really - about him stinking up the *bathroom.*

Less extreme but really just as fucked up, my daughter tells me kids have taken to popping into empty *classrooms* between periods to vape.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:49 (six years ago)

juul is aggressively marketed towards children, and should be regulated like cigarettes are. idk about an outright ban, unless you also wanna ban cigarettes

Mommy...can I go out and VAPE tonight? (voodoo chili), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:51 (six years ago)

I want to ban cigarettes
and guns
and cars
and strollers

L'assie (Euler), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:53 (six years ago)

xp

Where is it marketed to children?

No plans to move, this is a pretty quiet semi-suburban, middle class neighborhood. The fact this happened is pretty insane.

https://www.vox.com/2019/1/25/18194953/vape-juul-e-cigarette-marketing

In a white paper, a team of researchers with Stanford Research Into the Impact of Tobacco Advertising have shared their study of the company’s marketing campaign between Juul’s launch in 2015 and fall 2018. They looked at thousands of Instagram posts, emails, and ads, and came to this searing conclusion: Juul’s marketing “was patently youth-oriented.” Juul also appeared to borrow directly from the tobacco industry playbook.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:58 (six years ago)

has a flavored bathroom

j., Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:01 (six years ago)

read that as "a flavored bottom"

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:02 (six years ago)

Interesting, I don't think I've ever seen a Juul ad before.

xxp

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:02 (six years ago)

well you prob don't read a lot of Highlights

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:03 (six years ago)

I can't remember if it was for Juul specifically but, given that tobacco ads on TV have been nonexistent for my entire lifetime, I was fairly taken aback to see some e-cig commercial on the Food Network of all places a few months back.

Time to Make a Pizza Pact! (Old Lunch), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:04 (six years ago)

ban this shit

Οὖτις, Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:13 (six years ago)

In addition to the type of ads posted above, Juul has been placing policy-oriented ads deep inside the front section of the Washington Post regularly for maybe the past couple of years. Pointing out how they have no intention of marketing to kids and how it's all about getting people off regular cigarettes. These are clearly targeted at policy makers, congress etc.

tobo73, Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:15 (six years ago)

why this in particular ? i don't vape nicotine but is it worse than cigarettes? if we aren't banning those than this should not be banned xp

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:16 (six years ago)

ban both imo

Mommy...can I go out and VAPE tonight? (voodoo chili), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:17 (six years ago)

smoking cigarettes is banned in a shit-ton of places in CA, this crap should be similarly treated imo

Οὖτις, Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:19 (six years ago)

ie, as a thing adults can do in their home and p much nowhere else. and no advertising, extensive health warnings all over everything etc.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:19 (six years ago)

Tbf I have two good friends who used to smoke cigarettes who have now switched to e-cigs. They're still addicted, but they smoke much less. I think the assumption that it is better for you than conventional cigarettes is as of yet just that, an assumption, and, yeah, often one propagated by the e-cig companies themselves (and often mitigated by the apparently off the charts level of nicotine in the products). The federal move to ban, with "quitting" in mind, does not include tobacco flavored e-cigs, but the talk-tough FDA news conference threatened to take those away if the youth-oriented marketing continues.
