Didn’t Pops become some gentrified douchehole?

sarahell, Friday, 6 September 2019 20:09 (six years ago)

Bars for Chris: I’ve liked Shotwells when visiting. Also liked the pinball arcade Free Gold Watch (though not a bar).

Pretty great lineup for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, especially considering it’s free.

xpost -- yeah my one time there, not so great. Couple of good bars along 24th, I did enjoy Big Rec. But generally speaking when I head home from work I just head home -- closer to work, I like Junior, though, and Hop Oast is a great small brewery.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 September 2019 20:17 (six years ago)

oh, there's a new-ish pinball + bar near the knockout -- outer orbit -- good people run it.

sarahell, Friday, 6 September 2019 20:52 (six years ago)

Massive Attack are playing tomorrow night.

this place is fukkkkin RAD, we go there every couple weeks, take the kids. They have a great range of machines and generally keep them in great working order.

idk about Pops, I haven't been in there in 15+ years. I generally only go to bars with bands these days

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 September 2019 21:39 (six years ago)

Yeah, been meaning to check it out and Cellarmaker as well.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 September 2019 22:00 (six years ago)

Not for Chris L. but more for locals:

There was supposed to be a Purple Mountains show on Sunday night at The Chapel but it's turned into a tribute for David Berman... I perused the performer list and nobody rang a bell except for Mark Eitzel.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 6 September 2019 22:25 (six years ago)

Sonny Smith is from Sonny and the Sunsets, he's great

not sure who any of those other people are

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 September 2019 22:27 (six years ago)

xxp Cancun is nearer to my house, so. That said, what I'm really a fan of is the local La Corneta, frankly.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 September 2019 22:30 (six years ago)

La Corneta's fine, we go to El Metate a lot cuz its closest, San Jalisco also near me and is v good. La Taqueria always feels like it has a line a mile long so I don't bother. But imo the best burrito in town is actually the El Tonayense truck (their brick + mortar restaurant got replaced by Wise Sons, which I also love so it's not so bad)

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 September 2019 22:32 (six years ago)

honestly the only burrito joint I *won't* eat at is El Faro

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 September 2019 22:33 (six years ago)

Free Gold Watch looks fun as hell, we’ll definitely try to stop there.

Only single seats are left for Massive Attack but they’re coming to DC where we live soon.

Chris L, Friday, 6 September 2019 23:01 (six years ago)

METALLICA is playing the yet to be named Warriors stadium if you want a taste of a local metal band.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 6 September 2019 23:09 (six years ago)

"local"
"metal"
"band"

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 September 2019 23:11 (six years ago)

boobie, Friday, 6 September 2019 23:12 (six years ago)

It's called the Chase Arena AFAIK

I'll be there Sunday night in the fucking nosebleed seats.

akm, Friday, 6 September 2019 23:16 (six years ago)

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 15:20 (six years ago)

I really like the art style of that poster. Reminds me a lot of those first two Baroness E.P.s.

You know, in this one-party town there's been some razor thin elections with some compelling candidates. Hope this keeps happening.

Oh hello there Bay Area, I'm headed your way on x-mas day, staying until I think Jan 1? Got a hotel deal in SoMa but that will just be sleeping place; we'll spend a good chunk of time East Bay scoping out neighborhoods for Becoming Californian in approx 2021.

I have some Oakland/Berkely questions, should I ask them here or in the Oakland thread (which is currently addressing far more significant topics than Becoming Californian)?

FAPs on either/both sides of the bay between xmas and new year?

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Sunday, 1 December 2019 18:25 (six years ago)

I guess one thing to work out is how to spell Berkeley.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Sunday, 1 December 2019 18:26 (six years ago)

Oakland thread more appropriate for the East Bay questions, yes. I of course selfishly would like to suggest the FAP be over here but am content to BART over as needed. Best days for me would be anywhere from Dec. 28 to 30.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:12 (six years ago)

Would love to see you, quincie! Do you have my email address?
