Bars for Chris: I’ve liked Shotwells when visiting. Also liked the pinball arcade Free Gold Watch (though not a bar).

Pretty great lineup for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, especially considering it’s free.

xpost -- yeah my one time there, not so great. Couple of good bars along 24th, I did enjoy Big Rec. But generally speaking when I head home from work I just head home -- closer to work, I like Junior, though, and Hop Oast is a great small brewery.

Massive Attack are playing tomorrow night.

this place is fukkkkin RAD, we go there every couple weeks, take the kids. They have a great range of machines and generally keep them in great working order.

idk about Pops, I haven't been in there in 15+ years. I generally only go to bars with bands these days

There was supposed to be a Purple Mountains show on Sunday night at The Chapel but it's turned into a tribute for David Berman... I perused the performer list and nobody rang a bell except for Mark Eitzel.

Sonny Smith is from Sonny and the Sunsets, he's great

xxp Cancun is nearer to my house, so. That said, what I'm really a fan of is the local La Corneta, frankly.

La Corneta's fine, we go to El Metate a lot cuz its closest, San Jalisco also near me and is v good. La Taqueria always feels like it has a line a mile long so I don't bother. But imo the best burrito in town is actually the El Tonayense truck (their brick + mortar restaurant got replaced by Wise Sons, which I also love so it's not so bad)

honestly the only burrito joint I *won't* eat at is El Faro

Free Gold Watch looks fun as hell, we’ll definitely try to stop there.

Only single seats are left for Massive Attack but they’re coming to DC where we live soon.

Oh hello there Bay Area, I'm headed your way on x-mas day, staying until I think Jan 1? Got a hotel deal in SoMa but that will just be sleeping place; we'll spend a good chunk of time East Bay scoping out neighborhoods for Becoming Californian in approx 2021.

I have some Oakland/Berkely questions, should I ask them here or in the Oakland thread (which is currently addressing far more significant topics than Becoming Californian)?

Oakland thread more appropriate for the East Bay questions, yes. I of course selfishly would like to suggest the FAP be over here but am content to BART over as needed. Best days for me would be anywhere from Dec. 28 to 30.
