‘mckray game’ is not a real name, c’mon

don’t bore us, get to the aeon of horus (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 3 September 2019 16:35 (six years ago)

eleven months pass...

That this character was a rascally hillbilly, and not a Black man minding his own business, speaks to either the sociopolitical landscape of the era, or the ability of David Cross, who played Ronnie, to crush in the writers’ room.

Amazing that David Cross got this role over all the black actors in the cast

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 13 August 2020 17:31 (five years ago)

Wow that's a dumb sentence

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 13 August 2020 17:41 (five years ago)

Clearly in the BLM era you'd make a comedy sketch about a black man who's always getting arrested!

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 13 August 2020 17:42 (five years ago)

how can you make an article like this without including Worthington's Law?

mozzy star (voodoo chili), Thursday, 13 August 2020 17:56 (five years ago)

i mean yeah, blow up the moon is obvious too, and the wyckyd scepter explanation sold me, but come on. 'more money = better than' is the guiding philosophy of our country.

mozzy star (voodoo chili), Thursday, 13 August 2020 17:58 (five years ago)

Another puzzling line: It’s a play on American exceptionalism, the indomitable spirit later embodied by the Onion article, Fuck Everything, We’re Doing Five Blades.

rob, Thursday, 13 August 2020 19:32 (five years ago)

terrible clickbait like this wouldn't be noteworthy if it wasn't such a labored attempt at something so obscure

I saw all the haha jokey memes earlier, but it sounds like this may actually have been him?

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 5 March 2021 04:50 (five years ago)

goddamn, and that story of Everest sketch is probably my favorite thing they did

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Friday, 5 March 2021 04:54 (five years ago)

oh jeeez

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 05:01 (five years ago)

I’m still not 100% sure but there is some stuff going around Twitter that someone else on Mr Show might have confirmed that he knew Jay was there, but thought it was just a rally and that they didn’t know until today that he actually stormed the Capitol?

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 5 March 2021 05:06 (five years ago)

There's a vague resemblance but I don't think that's him. Let's wait and see if these vague reports of 'but people who know him said so!' firm up a bit.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 05:32 (five years ago)

I mean, yeah, I hope it’s not him! I wouldn’t have even bothered sharing it here but there’s been several blue check comedians popping into mentions saying cryptic shit like, “I got bad news for you”. It’s just weird, the tone on Twitter def shifted from “haha this guy looks like Jay” to “this sucks that this is Jay” pretty quick tonight.

The Gavin McInnes Show (TV Series) - 2015
Self - Comedian

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 13:14 (five years ago)

This does indeed call for a huge "WTF!?".

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 March 2021 13:46 (five years ago)

I guess now we know no one at the FBI watches TV.

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 13:51 (five years ago)

feel like theyre probably more of a Mad TV kinda crowd

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:00 (five years ago)

Well, that's one of the things that's giving me pause. I'd think it would be relatively easy for the FBI to identify someone whose face has been semi-regularly broadcast on screens over the past several decades.

Goddamnit if true, though.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:02 (five years ago)

There is no way they'd recognize him from scattered TV any more than they would recognize his voice as that of Jimmy Pesto.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 March 2021 14:03 (five years ago)

"No way"? It took the internet like 2 minutes.

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:05 (five years ago)

Jay Johnston, internet famous.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 March 2021 14:10 (five years ago)

just peeked at his wiki and this oddly defensive line kind makes sense now in context:

Jay Johnston's contribution to Mr. Show were generally of the "evergreen" variety, dealing with more or less universal themes as opposed to the more political and socially satirical material that his fellow writers and performers contributed

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:13 (five years ago)

I guess, if this is true, at the very least I'm relieved to learn that facial recognition software isn't as much a thing as I'd assumed.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:13 (five years ago)

ugh - i didn't even know he voiced Pesto

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:15 (five years ago)

I just saw a post (since deleted) on a Bob's Burgers forum that he might have been suffering from substance abuse problems.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 March 2021 14:16 (five years ago)

why would facial recognition software have flagged a random nondescript-looking white man

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:17 (five years ago)

so nondescript half of twitter was like "is that the story of everest guy" more or less immediately

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:27 (five years ago)

tbf I'm pretty sure that picture of him with the camo mask has been on the FBI wanted poster since right after the event itself, so it's not like he was identified overnight.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 5 March 2021 14:37 (five years ago)

Had this dude been on some crime spree in between his acting gigs that would have put his picture into a facial recognition database as a person of interest?

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:49 (five years ago)

you all know you don't actually have to defend the FBI right

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:51 (five years ago)

Who...is doing that?

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 14:53 (five years ago)

Seems like everyone is clowning the FBI?

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 5 March 2021 15:01 (five years ago)

― Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, March 5, 2021 9:49 AM (twelve minutes ago)

tbh I am a little surprised that a massive, public database of images like the IMDB isn't already in the training data for whatever facial recognition software the FBI has access to. I'm also not sure you need to be flagged as a POI to be identified by such software, though I admittedly have zero clue how the FBI uses it.

rob, Friday, 5 March 2021 15:05 (five years ago)

It's funny watching white dudes go "oh I guess I don't have to be as scared of facial recognition software as I thought" when the primary problems with it have always been that it gives lots of false positives and the number increases the darker your skin, meaning that you guys were never really in danger from it to begin with unless you were actually committing crimes recorded on camera.

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 5 March 2021 15:07 (five years ago)

I guess pointing out the privilege in your perspective could be interpreted as defending the FBI if you really want it to

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 5 March 2021 15:12 (five years ago)

I didn't say that I personally was worried about being facially-recognized, though, is the thing.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 15:32 (five years ago)

okay yeah, that's fair

sorry

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 5 March 2021 15:49 (five years ago)

Seems like everyone is clowning the FBI?

I was being a prick there for no good reason tbh.

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 15:57 (five years ago)

It's all good, y'all.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 16:03 (five years ago)

I really hope this is debunked soon because

goddamn, and that story of Everest sketch is probably my favorite thing they did

― Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, March 4, 2021 10:54 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

except it's maybe among my top five 'makes me laugh no matter how many times I rewatch it' comedy bits of all time and it would make me sad if the person who made it was a fascist shithead.

btwn the McInnes appearance and Tim confirming it I would be frankly shocked if it weren't true :(

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 16:09 (five years ago)

Also this reinforces that these wackos are rarely actually economically disenfranchised or anything like that - dude was still getting steady work.

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 16:11 (five years ago)

I want to believe, I'm so tired of comedy people/entertainers in general ruining my enjoyment of their material by being terrible irl, can't we have just one nice + untainted thing ever
