This is one of the great american folk tales, famous in song and penny dreadfuls the films seems like such a missed opportunity.

yeah but the movie makers made it the way they wanted to, they didn't view the material in the same way you did--i think a lot of people enjoyed the slanted take on the western, i know i sure did

Lookit all those dreadful pennies (xxxxpost)

me too kinda, i like long slow burn type movies. not every movie has to be as action-packed as star trek, dr morbius!

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:57 (sixteen years ago)

I liked what they were aiming for, I think they went way off target, however I might add it to netflix and re-watch.

Mornington Crescent (Ed), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

i think you mean "rescreen"

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:59 (sixteen years ago)

I like to reburn when I rescreen.

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

four months pass...

Finally watching it, after my dad mentioned it a while ago. One fucking great movie. I like Brad Pitt's "bad" acting in it. Ben A is just perfect. But most of all I like the cinematography. The way they portray the scenery is just so beautiful

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 1 November 2009 12:52 (sixteen years ago)

BTW should I read the book?

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 1 November 2009 12:52 (sixteen years ago)

Just convinced my wife to watch this, and she really liked it, though she wasn't quite as impressed as I was. Sometimes I suspect existential westerns in particular appeal more to guys than gals, at least as far as genre films go, but maybe I'm wrong.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 1 November 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

I guess I'm the exception to the rule then? I absolutely love existential westerns (because of the existentialism; not so much the western part). That said, I hated Dead Man so much. Maybe I should try it again?

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 1 November 2009 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

I think what I like most, are American films: from your typical LA film to, well, whatever incorporates/depicts the US.

That's some great animation. Possibly the most esoteric satire ever, too.

it's the actual yogi bear guys who did it

actually, turns out it's just a guy who saw the trailer and decided to do a parody:

one year passes...

Is there a thread for Killing Them Softly? The best-directed ideological con of the year. Seriously, I feel like Morbs did script-doctoring on this one, what with all the long ironic interludes of Obama hollowly speechifying amid the killings.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)

Scoot McNairy, however, has emerged as my #1 new celeb crush of the year. Not bad for someone who looked like Kip Dynamite in his last movie.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:45 (thirteen years ago)

Dominik is obv is better identifying real-life psycho killers than dramatizing them.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 04:58 (thirteen years ago)

"America is just a business" seems way less toxic and/or challenging a thesis to me than, say, "There's no place like home."

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

If you're named "Scoot McNairy" you look like one.

"America is just a business" seems way less toxic and/or challenging a thesis to me than, say, "There's no place like home."

That's because you're always welcome to vote with your dollar, but you're not welcome in a lot of homes.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

That you're going to mount an argument that this movie's heart (sic) is in the right place, Morbs, is going to be downright delish.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 15:58 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not going to make it as I have no plans to see it.

Look for Obama's heart while you're at it tho

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

You can always put Obama's heart where yours ought to be.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

thought about that one, thought u guys shd keep yr shtick going.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 16:01 (thirteen years ago)

I wouldn't worry about our shtick. You can always put our shtick where your fart ought to be.

Was your new years' resolution to start praising movies you haven't seen in addition to trashing them?

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

I didn't praise shit. Foisting an unimportant deathdrone like Barry O on a cinema audience sounds like a misjudgment anyhoo.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

this is awesome

turds (Hungry4Ass), Saturday, 1 December 2012 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

turds (Hungry4Ass), Saturday, 1 December 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

It's a massive debit.

yo when the dude is shooting heroin and "heroin" is on the soundtrack, omg, fuck this movie. also it is supposed to be in boston but they filmed it here in new orleans and there's palm trees and shit? hey let's read this terrible stagey dialogue for 15 minutes. obama!

adam, Monday, 3 December 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, it's a very silly movie

Number None, Monday, 3 December 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)
