he's got a few thousand subscribers i think, and he gets a few quid a month for each one. people can also donate 2 quid or "cheer" (not sure how that works exactly but he gets an in-twitch currency called "bits" for this which can then be converted into money when he has larger sums of them)

ah i see kinda.

Funky Isolations (jed_), Thursday, 15 August 2019 21:14 (six years ago)

subscribers pay monthly, so he's getting a few quid monthly, from a few thousand people, plus a bit of additional income from the donations and "cheers". it's basically his main job at the moment, though he has mentioned that he has been writing for some project (whether for another book or tv he hasn't confirmed)

lol

On Limmy's stream today he was talking about feeling suicidal when his son was a toddler, leading to him going to the doctor for the first time regarding his depression and it was very affecting. I was tearing up at it. Daftest most puerile stream in the world most of the time too

lol at one of the top replies on that ‘yoker’ tweet being from thandie newton of all people

limmy has always struck me as being someone whose work i love but i’d probably go out of my way to avoid meeting irl

non-euclidean lenin (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 27 October 2019 06:49 (six years ago)

He doesnt seem like an arsehole to me. In the autobio he talks about not really having friends in primary school, and how his mother never told him that she loved him or cuddled him or anything (and obviously same with his da) and he is completely disinterested and unmoved when she suddenly gets ill and dies when hes in his late teens. He also just generally has difficulties forming relationships with people and is a fairly, to his own admission, bad father (though his love for his son is about the only strong emotion towards a person that he seems to have).

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 27 October 2019 07:10 (six years ago)

I mean that sounds like a bit of an arsehole? But he talks about feeling like he has something missing, that's kind of more the vibe.

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 27 October 2019 07:26 (six years ago)

he’s mentioned about wondering whether he’s on the autism spectrum before iirc

non-euclidean lenin (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 27 October 2019 07:33 (six years ago)

He's certainly not an arsehole ime, though I knew when he had nothing - well, not much anyway. Not a saint either and not as out there as he likes to portray, he functioned pretty well

Michael Oliver of Penge Wins £5 (Tom D.), Sunday, 27 October 2019 09:45 (six years ago)

He's very intelligent and talented and I'm trying not to do the "There's a lot of funny people in Glasgow" bit, but he is a very Glasgow/ West of Scotland kind of guy.

Michael Oliver of Penge Wins £5 (Tom D.), Sunday, 27 October 2019 09:50 (six years ago)

was gonna say, this

how his mother never told him that she loved him or cuddled him or anything (and obviously same with his da) and he is completely disinterested and unmoved when she suddenly gets ill and dies when hes in his late teens. He also just generally has difficulties forming relationships with people and is a fairly, to his own admission, bad father

is very typical West of Scotland stuff

Non, je ned raggette rien (onimo), Tuesday, 31 March 2020 21:42 (six years ago)

Making the first episode of this the episode that was already on was a terrible idea. I get it (sort of) but just list it as a repeat of the pilot, followed by a new series if, in fact, it is a new series.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Wednesday, 8 April 2020 21:01 (six years ago)

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 24 April 2020 20:11 (six years ago)

ah boo

kinder, Friday, 24 April 2020 20:25 (six years ago)

This series plays out like a terrible anxiety dream to me and a pretty good example of why you need to work with other people to make a TV show. The other players on his previous shows were so good and necessary. The effect here is so suffocating it makes me hyperventilate to even watch it. I'm a fan but I'd say this is about 10% funny and about 60% horrifying and about 30% thankfully, helpfully, "don't care".

Heavy Messages (jed_), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 02:05 (six years ago)

If you think it's good then that's great, of course, it's just extremely not for me and definitely did not help me out rn. I had to stop the 3rd episode.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 02:22 (six years ago)

I liked the way that some of the bits eventually pay off into something like a conventional punchline and some of them just leave you hanging. I agree about the anxiety dream thing, it's easy to imagine a sketch like the one with the guy's mate not liking the film he recommended being done with the shorter guy from Limmy's Show as the mate, but it feels so much more claustrophobic without them

soref, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 07:02 (six years ago)

It does feel weirdly appropriate for the moment, that claustrophobia, though. Lot of people rattling about alone indoors with their thoughts rn. Watched e3 last night and had tears running down my face.

stet, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 08:45 (six years ago)

Frankly I think Limmy's enough of a good weirdo that I could imagine him doing this show even w/o quarantine, so it's not been too bad on that front for me.

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 11:00 (six years ago)

it was purely coincidental that this came out now, it was all conceived, commissioned, filmed and scheduled before COVID.

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:06 (six years ago)

It's unnervingly apt

kinder, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:09 (six years ago)

He's basically been doing this solo shut-in stuff ever since limmy's show finished in 2013 so it's hardly some spooky coincidence, just the world has lined up with his neuroses now

or something, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:20 (six years ago)

limmy was on Tim heidecker's "Office Hours" today which is, for me at least, a real world's collide moment of two of my favourite comedians of the 21st century. haven't watched it yet
