oh man, the worst possible outfit to shart in

it probably wasn't the case, but that was immediately what went through my mind as well
so, parking at the state fair is at a relative premium and there are a myriad of ways to address that. there's a shuttle bus from downtown parking, some charity-owned lots nearby, and the classic "park in someone's yard for cash"
basically people who live really close to the fairgrounds will stand around with a sign, or someone will pay them for use of their yard to do so, and they'll line up cars on the grass. it's usually early in the day, and you just kind of roll the dice on whether it'll be easy to extract your car later. apparently the chapo election team decided to do this, and some asshole arrived late and blocked all the other cars in
it wasn't clear whether someone else in the crowd called the cops or they did (could use some clarification here, I was like YOU CALLED THE COPS?!) but the idea was apparently you call the cops, the cops say it's ok for a tow truck to pull the offending vehicle out of the way. cop arrives, basically says "I don't know man, it's private property, you've gotta figure it out" and finally a bunch of people banded together to just shove the car out of the driveway and they made their way out.
hopefully that segment makes a podcast because it was entertaining. also, I don't think I would park like that in a rental so...

Their Epstein stuff is kind of unlistenable. I also tried to give Brace Belden's True Anon podcast a chance and it was equally unlistenable.

i had no idea you hate/love to see it was trump but if so that’s his greatest contribution to culture
― flopson, Sunday, 25 August 2019 07:00 (five years ago) link
I thought it was just mocking corny sportscasters - Trump's thing is more "we love ... don't we folks" right?
Actually I think the originator may be Pierre Louÿs - https://www.wakefieldpress.com/louys_pybrac.html
First published posthumously in 1927, Pybrac was, with The Young Girl’s Handbook of Good Manners, one of the first of Louÿs’ secret erotic manuscripts to see clandestine publication. Composed of 313 rhymed alexandrine quatrains, the majority of them starting with the phrase “I do not like to see…,” Pybrac is in form a mockery of sixteenth-century chancellor poet Guy Du Faur, Seigneur de Pibrac, whose moralizing quatrains were common literary fare for young French readers until the nineteenth century. Louÿs spent his life coming up with his own evergrowing collection of rhymed moral precepts (suitable only for adult readers): a dizzying litany describing everything he “disliked” witnessing, from lesbianism, sodomy, incest, and prostitution to perversions extreme enough to give even a modern reader pause.

I’ve listened to a few eps since the Marianne Wmson interview
I’m annoyed by how they (or at least one of them) say “KaMAla” instead of “KAmala”

xp hrrrm I do not actually know how to do that one correctly, it seemsdefinitely a strong “i’ve used this word before but never heard it spoken aloud” vibe from these guys but it’s fine the entire kamala pronunciation thing is something that probably deserves practice but i’ve heard enough variations among people who should know that I can’t care

I still maintain that Virgil is the worst Chapo, he's constantly killing good riffs with overly earnest "actually, I disagree" moments

I've done a 180 on that opinion
seeing them live, he's more of a quiet moderating influence and kind of pushes things back on track as necessary

Michael Brooks (and to a lesser extent, the Majority Report) has p much replaced Chapo for me. none of the insufferable nerdiness, seems more knowledgeable, they're funny/not self-serious, and they're really good broadcasters and speakers, Brooks in particular.
― flappy bird, Thursday, 12 September 2019 20:46 (five years ago) link
yeah, I also prefer Brooks/MR to Chapo. I've never understood the lack of interest around here. I guess people find Sam Seder annoying.
