i believe the toilets are dmac's responsibility

there was a meeting about it that he didn't attend

Hi Brian,

See above for the mail discussed earlier. Name, timestamp and intent to mock/undermine all clear.

As noted previously, I've had difficulties with this person forwarding me unwanted reports and timesheets for some time now and I feel, though admittedly I'm not an expert, that he may be "trolling" me through the use of the company's telecommunications infrastructure.

I trust that you will take this ongoing issue appropriately seriously.

Apologies again about blocking the toilets. I can confirm that I now understand that they are not the proper disposal mechanism for unwanted timesheets and the issue won't arise again.

Best,

Darragh

I am marking this issue resolved.

Warmest Regards,
Rhonda

Thank you all for attending tonight, it's wonderful to see so many employees, associates and contractors who have been touched in some way by the vision we had for the on-prem cloud solution.

Someone once said "I have met them at close of day
Coming with vivid faces
From counter or desk among grey
Eighteenth-century houses.
I have passed with a nod of the head
Or polite meaningless words,
Or have lingered awhile and said
Polite meaningless words,
And thought before I had done
Of a mocking tale or a gibe
To please a companion
Around the fire at the club,
Being certain that they and I
But lived where motley is worn:
All changed, changed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born."

Well I too have seen a terrible beauty being born, that beauty is Bill's rise through the ranks of the SaaS division and I know I leave you in very capable hands and he assures me that there are no hard feelings about the pictures of his then-fiancée now-ex-wife circulated on the web front ends during his extended honeymoon/convalescence.

I know I speak for us all when I wush Bill all the very best of the pizza and beer in 8C.

The greatest troll I ever knew was my friend Ken. He died in 2016. He was one of the kindest and most caring people I've known. That's not something one generally can say about Internet trolls.

Abigail, Wife of Preserved Fish (rushomancy), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 01:01 (six years ago)

how was he a troll

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 06:55 (six years ago)

I guess this would be the thread where it’s cool to speak ill of the dead.

sarahell, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 08:06 (six years ago)

he had a bunch of socks where he would claim to be various outrageous things, like being a necrophiliac or w/e. standard troll shit, but he was really good at it - some of his socks i didn't even know were him until years and years later - and his trolls all had so much joie de vivre to them. despite all the fucked up shit he'd been through he was a genuinely happy person, and that attitude really came through in his trolling. he just really enjoyed provoking closed-minded and petty people.

Abigail, Wife of Preserved Fish (rushomancy), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 09:34 (six years ago)

by contrast ilx’s trolls come across as unhappy and cowardly

L'assie (Euler), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 09:55 (six years ago)

Who are the ilx trolls?

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:05 (six years ago)

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:07 (six years ago)

Don't mind me just wanna get some heat into the thread.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:08 (six years ago)

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:10 (six years ago)

Trolling – (verb), as it relates to internet, is the deliberate act, (by a Troll – noun or adjective), of making random unsolicited and/or controversial comments on various internet forums with the intent to provoke an emotional knee jerk reaction from unsuspecting readers to engage in a fight or argument
Trolling on-line forums as described above is actually analogous to the fishing technique of “trolling”, where colorful baits and lures are pulled behind a slow moving boat, often with multiple fishing lines, covering a large bodies of water, such as a large lake or the ocean. The trolling lures attract unsuspecting fish, intriguing them with the way they move through the water, thus enticing these foolish fish to “take the bait”. Not unlike unsuspecting internet victims, once hooked, the fish are reeled in for the catch before they realize they have been duped by the Troll/Fisherman

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:15 (six years ago)

Some hard fishermanning itt

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:15 (six years ago)

ok

is Euler's post above a good example iyo

phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:16 (six years ago)

"by contrast ilx’s trolls come across as unhappy and cowardly"

this is otm imo. do think ilx was always a better fit for socks than for trolling.

i don't think the meaning changed; ilx changed.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:18 (six years ago)

Very much so.

xp

pomenitul, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:20 (six years ago)

possibly, aside from differences in how we might individually define the terms, the intent or effect of socks v trolls comes across differently to each of us also

never had any time for socks meself, fundamentally malicious and corrosive practice

combined, changes again.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 10:15 (six years ago)

I agree that sarahell's 'piece of shit' post quoted upthread was deft snark and not trolling fwiw

nashwan, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 10:22 (six years ago)

i disagree snark, imo the intent there is to make a dumb situational joke and not to undercut anybody.

but that said: attempts at humour come somewhat under each of tyranny of humour, multivalenced language and troll headings discussed elsewhere, and each of us experiences the taste of chilli powder differently

which brings us back to thread intent, if a thread can be said to have an intent (it can i started it)
