In all seriousness those were probably the two worst midfields I've seen from nominally elite EPL teams. At least since the days when Fergie tried to line up with a midfield of Alan Smith and Giggs.

Only Pogba is at the level they require, Kante's late cameo notwithstanding. I'm sure Jorginho is a decent passing midfielder in the Wijnaldum vein but he needs better players around him to work properly.

One quality midfield signing and I think we'd actually be in a pretty good place. McTominay seems like he might turn out to be a semi-decent player in the Fletcher mode, to my astonishment, but with Pereira, Lingard or Fred turning out every week, we're going to get ripped to shreds regularly

it's especially galling because the defence is looking really solid now, but they're going to get no protection at all from the midfield most of the time

Never rated Fletcher tbh but I know what you mean, he's probably utile with 2 actual footballers alongside him
