I think the past 20 years or so have made me constitutionally resistant to conspiracy theories. So all the Clinton body count stuff is making me puke today.

As someone on twitter pointed out the best counter to ClintonBodyCount is the continued existence of Anthony Weiner - you wouldn’t even need to be sneaky about that one, I think everyone would understand.

I don’t think the idea that Epstein was killed is at all ridiculous though.

In this case, I think indifference was probably a big factor. I think the point of view of a lot of prison guards would be: who cares whether this notorious scumbag lives or dies and why do I have to be extra vigilant to protect him from himself? If he dies, it's just that much simpler and the world is better off without him. Larger considerations would not enter their heads.

I mean this is just as lazy as believing everything is a conspiracy

flappy bird, Saturday, 10 August 2019 16:39 (six years ago)

the one counter argument against this being a murder or 'pushed' suicide is that there isn't much to keep the evidence they've collected from coming out now. so I don't know what doing this accomplishes, except keeping epstein from talking. I guess maybe he knew much more than they have evidence on.

akm, Saturday, 10 August 2019 16:41 (six years ago)

trump's comment on Hollywood appears to be about The Hunt which admittedly doesn't look like a very helpful movie though it looks fairly entertaining.

Seems a little doubtful that the parents would have the resources to get to him inside, or would want to stop the case from going to trial.

JoeStork, Saturday, 10 August 2019 16:50 (six years ago)

xp yeah I don't get trump's beef w/ The Hunt, the trailer and little I've read make it sound like straight MAGA fearmongering

akm, Saturday, 10 August 2019 17:19 (six years ago)

Seems likely to me that Epstein committed suicide, but as he swum in a cesspool of mutual blackmail, its very possible the suicide was prompted to by blackmail/threats against someone he cared for. Maybe Ghislaine, maybe others. Certainly within the capabilities of some the powerful he endangered, or Robert Maxwell's old pals Mossad and/or KGB/FSB.

The NY NBC affiliate is reporting that Epstein wasn't on suicide watch, just two weeks after his prior attempt. That deserves some prying.

How in the ever living fuck does this happen when he’s on constant watch???

Don't know about the US but, in the UK, if notorious murderers/criminals feel like killing themselves in prison they tend to succeed... guards seem to often be doing something else at the propitious time.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 10 August 2019 18:48 (six years ago)

Variety reports:

Universal Pictures has canceled the release of its upcoming thriller “The Hunt.” The film was previously set to hit theaters Sept. 27. “While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, ” a spokesperson for Universal said.
“We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

So we have the prez and his hordes effectively censoring the film biz now.

frankly sounds like The Most Dangerous Game (1932) and its frequent remakes.

I’ll just say this re: Epstein

If the sudden death under custody of an insanely wealthy sex trafficker with verifiable connections to many of the most powerful and influential people in the world, including a former and current president, isn’t enough to at least give you pause then wtf is wrong with you

The Ravishing of ROFL Stein (Hadrian VIII), Saturday, 10 August 2019 19:49 (six years ago)

Xps not even just notorious criminals. Acquaintance of ours killed themselves in prison, also on suicide watch. They were in for relatively minor crimes. In the UK, at any rate, suicide watch does not mean they are being watched all the time, might only be checked once every couple of hours at night iirc.

it's very hard for me to believe that someone who spent his life cultivating powerful connections and getting away with crimes would think, even at this point, that his situation was hopeless and there was no way to wriggle out of serious consequences.

I don’t find it implausible that a man in his position would be suicidal. He’s being left out to dry by the people who made him in the first place.

You don’t need an elite hit squad to off a dude in that state, you just got to give him the opportunity to do it to himself.

Conceptualize Wyverns (latebloomer), Saturday, 10 August 2019 20:04 (six years ago)

"Did anyone see what our ratfucker-in-chief just did?" one character asks early in the screenplay for The Hunt, a Universal Pictures thriller set to open Sept. 27. Another responds: "At least The Hunt's coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables."

I don’t want to go too far out on a limb, but it’s also possible that the pedophile transhumanist who wanted to cryogenically freeze his penis and set up an ‘insemination ranch’ might have been a little... not right in the head.
