Yes, a lot of comedians have been exposed as being out of their depth on this stuff in the Trump era but Tim has a great handle on it.

More than in a way- given Tim's (and Vic Berger's) focus on that exact type of person lately I feel most of his character takes direct inspiration. And Decker is straight up an alternate universe where Trump is an even shittier Steven Seagal.

having missed previous Oscar specials I was a little confused about Mark's voice coming from his comatose gold-encrusted body - what exactly was going on there

There was a moment during the 'Empty Bottle' reveal where Axiom suddenly looks totally crestfallen and Tim lost a little of his swagger, this subtle and brief but utterly magical moment where Ax seems to recognize that this monster has taken so much more than just his right hand. And then of course everything goes back to normal immediately thereafter.
