I don’t have a fan but I do have a freezer full of water bottles in various stages of frozen-ness, a tub of gazpacho in the fridge, ice cream, a folding hand fan and a spritzer bottle. Plus wine, lovely cold rosé.

We have AC at work (SE England) and I have a fan here at home. It's 30degC in here but humidity is low so it's manageable. I am drinking a lot of water throughout the day though. Tomorrow is forecast to be 35 but Friday is 23, and that is going to be interesting.

Right now on the Seine banks it’s getting better (but still pretty warm). Rosé does help !

I have one big glass of rosé left in the bottle and I’m saving it for a sleep aid.

FYI blueberries are super cheap at the greengrocers’ stands in London right now, so I’m having a handful of blueberries on top of a scoop of Waitrose Duchy Organic vanilla ice cream RIGHT NOW. You won’t be sorry if you do the same.

been reading about yakhchāls, which are a sort of ice granary devised by persians way back in the day so they could freeze water in winter and keep the ice through summer. they also have wind funnel chimney towers apparently keeping them near freezing even in summer (?? in iran???)

You picked a good first summer o'er here Capitaine! It's scorching. I'm up north so probably a bit better off than you (I'm guessing?), but good luck all the same. (Still not missing AC though)

This is definitely a bad day to be hungover... I'm not leaving my (cool) office today !Going home will be a problem, though... I might order a uber or sometthing...
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 25 July 2019 09:44 (four years ago) link
I was thinking of doing the same. I honestly don’t think I could hack public transport later. I think I’d die if I was hungover.

Trying to find a list of all the bus routes that have a decent cooling system like the 468 and dreaming of an app that not only tells you where your bus is but its on board top deck temperature in real time.

my central heating came on earlier! The power cut the other night had reset the heating controls to Auto mode from Off. I thought it was getting rather warm.

Metro is ok (depending on the lines and if it's not too crowded).Buses are impossible. I don't even know how the drivers can work in these conditions.

I’m due at a friend’s Christmas In July launch in about an hour - CiJ is a part of the PR calendar where a retailer’s Xmas season offering is made available to the press, and my friend’s event is for a very posh Yorks/Lancs/Cumbria food retailer. She never fails to launch on the actual hottest day of the year so I will be focused on getting my freebie punning tote bag (last year’s was UP HILL AND DOWN ALE) and not eating any mice pies. I will be eating ALL the smoked salmon though.

mice pies
we'll be lucky to find any mice at all when climate change really starts kicking in

It's like wearing a duffel coat I can't take off. And I think it's cooler here than in London. We at least have a very welcome breeze here.
I'm hoping the boss will tell us to go home early but I fear he's a hot weather person and has just got back from Spain anyway so this is probably all this_is_fine.gif to him.
(As I'm sure it is to many ilxors - my dislike of summer was not well regarded the year my body decided it hated heat and sunlight and sought its revenge in the form of painful rashes and migraines - thankfully it's not doing that yet this year but I will be sure to complain about it at tedious and TMI length on ILX when it does)

Yeah, there's an "event" aspect to it, checking how high the temperature will rise (beating the historial record of 1947 !), talking about it with EVERYBODY you meet... + knowing it will be over by tomorrow.Of course, that's because I don't have it bad compared those who really suffer from it.
