as they are talented or hardworking they've got nothing to worry about.. apart from getting deported or battered to death in the street.

if

calzino, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:01 (six years ago)

Also if you think that's racist then you are the true racist. Obviously.

pomenitul, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:02 (six years ago)

Wait wait hold on is this the point where the common enemy is stet? I've just checked on my phone and ILX is only showing the Rachel Clarke tweet, without the context that she's slapping down Jacob Rees-Mogg's "we clearly don't need Europe to win"

I completely agree about praising the 'exceptional' immigrants sans context.

And anyway anyway the JRM/RC 1-2 is what I was suggesting as the context for Leo's tweet.

I will stop saying context now (I will never)

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:02 (six years ago)

Hiiiiii, no dig on MDC/ignoring female contributions is it? I think you’ll find I’m the one who started bringing up the Mosley/Watson reminders.

― suzy,

Sorry Suzy! I had read that post too but didn't clock at the time who it was referring to, didn't know anything about the Mosley connection before

anvil, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:08 (six years ago)

NP AF, I am perfectly calm and shoneen-bashing as I always do (this is directed at Leo).

gyac, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:09 (six years ago)

And if you can't trace your lineage back to Æthelwulf (Cerdic is preferable, however), your trial period isn't over yet.

pomenitul, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:13 (six years ago)

... EU immigrants both.

Wait wait hold on is this the point where the common enemy is stet? I've just checked on my phone and ILX is only showing the Rachel Clarke tweet, without the context that she's slapping down Jacob Rees-Mogg's "we clearly don't need Europe to win"

tbf German and French cricketers aren't the best. The Dutch are not bad though.

Orpheus Knutt (Tom D.), Monday, 15 July 2019 11:14 (six years ago)

I've just checked on my phone and ILX is only showing the Rachel Clarke tweet

It shows the context for me, which is what matters

Downing Street: Theresa May’s view is the language used to refer to these congresswomen by Donald Trump was completely unacceptable @theresa_may https://t.co/y4mfmvp5Bu

— Nicholas Watt (@nicholaswatt) July 15, 2019

The language itself is unacceptable. Whether that also applies to its signification remains to be seen.

pomenitul, Monday, 15 July 2019 11:34 (six years ago)

Maybe Theresa would have been fine with him calling them “queue jumpers” or “citizens of nowhere”.

gyac, Monday, 15 July 2019 12:08 (six years ago)

Tbf cutting in line is generally less of an unforgivable faux pas in the US.

pomenitul, Monday, 15 July 2019 12:19 (six years ago)

Yeahhhhh if Theresa May wanted to make first and second generation immigrants uncomfortable, she’d just commission Go Home vans to drive around multicultural areas.

suzy, Monday, 15 July 2019 13:40 (six years ago)

Poll numbers about to skyrocket:

Hopefully his punishment in Hell will consist of a never-ending dialogue with the ghost of Averroes wherein he is forever made to feel intellectually and humanly inferior in his heart of hearts.

pomenitul, Monday, 15 July 2019 15:45 (six years ago)

Get prepared for him to invoke his Muslim granddad yet again I guess.

gyac, Monday, 15 July 2019 16:30 (six years ago)

The Conservative leadership frontrunner wrote that the inhibitor of progress was “a fatal religious conservatism” and the further the Muslim world had “fallen behind, the more bitterness and confusion there has been, to the point where virtually every global flashpoint you can think of – from Bosnia to Palestine to Iraq to Kashmir – involves some sense of Muslim grievance”.

I'm pretty certain the Ra only got guns and money from Ghadaffi, but who knows, he might have been holding back a case of Muslim grievance, in case they ever ran out of their own.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 15 July 2019 17:03 (six years ago)

Wait, the war in Bosnia was about “Muslim grievance”?!?!

gyac, Monday, 15 July 2019 17:05 (six years ago)

What a fuckhead. I would ask what his take is on Hinduism but given his citation of Churchill, I imagine he again speaks the empty voice of empire.

L'assie (Euler), Monday, 15 July 2019 19:17 (six years ago)

if only that young turk revolution had battered boris' great granddad to death a bit bloody earlier.

i've never been clear why the clearly routine practice of the police spending huge amounts of time & resources infiltrating all manner of benign groups is commonly accepted and not seen as insanely authoritarian

Where was Gaz Coombes though?

Orpheus Knutt (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 July 2019 14:40 (six years ago)

that sequence of Gaz having a "cheeky nando's" with Himmler was genius work mr Boyle!

We know they're anti-fascist, but it's imperative that we find out whether they're prematurely anti-fascist!

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:11 (six years ago)

Next he’ll be telling us he’s a lifelong anti-racist... https://t.co/nJp6naRxuy

— Wes Streeting MP (@wesstreeting) July 16, 2019

Streeting comparing Corbyn to Trump following the latter’s racist tweets, a day after having falsely accused Angela Rayner of avoiding questions, feels like desperation at this stage. Any veneer of being a Serious MP asking Serious Questions has gone.

“The state of Berlin has bought back 670 apartments on the historic Karl-Marx-Allee from a private owner, after decades of property privatisation in the German capital.” https://t.co/m9LmJFXNxK

— Laurie Macfarlane (@L__Macfarlane) July 16, 2019

literally dangerous Marxism! well not really just a modest dose of denationalisation to increase public housing stocks in Berlin, there would be a military coup if Corbyn did this in London.

calzino, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:14 (six years ago)

Apparently at the debate yesterday, Boris and Hunt both said that a time-limit to the backstop wouldn't do, it would have to be removed entirely.

I mean, I know that the EU have underlined a lot that a time-limit wasn't on the table, but this feels to me like a serious sign that it's definitely No Deal now.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:14 (six years ago)

It was Laura Pidcock.

Fuck off, Wes.

suzy, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:16 (six years ago)

Wes was the very special guest on the last ep of the Remainiacs podcast for all you suicidal hate listeners + lovers of very fine political discourse out there!

calzino, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:24 (six years ago)

full disclosure: I didn't last to the bit where Wes shows up.

calzino, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:27 (six years ago)

I have a big Remainiacs fan on my FB timeline and around the time of the pro-EU march he posted a Remainiacs macro for the event which was, like, the sun rising over a field with "Good Morning, Britain" or something like that written on it. Straight up taking cues from Reagan, lol.

Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:31 (six years ago)

lol! the bit I listened to was talking someone who though it was a big wheeze to join the Conservative party as a melt entryist!

calzino, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 15:35 (six years ago)

Well sometimes people want an excuse

Streeting retweeted the “Corbyn is controlled by rich Jews” tweet I mentioned upthread too.

I honestly am not sure there is a more valuable individual poster in a thread than calz in this one

gyac, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 16:42 (six years ago)

Islamophobic claims, overt or insinuated, that Labour has been taken over by or serves the interests of "the Muslims" are commonplace on social media AND throughout our press.

Wes Streeting doorstepped for Phil Woolas in a campaign so openly racist that Woolas' victory was overturned in the courts, and then defended him publicly afterward. he has no place lecturing others on bigotry of any kind

— wariotifo (@wariotifo) July 10, 2019

sorry but when I haven’t checked my phone for three hours and missed a Streeting discussion I’m going to post, more to follow

Wes previously had a pop at Laura Pidcock for referencing the General Strike of the 20's, but he got it mixed with Winter of Discontent in the 70's. Which is a common line of attack from the tories against Labour, but a very weak one as the spring, summer, and autumns of discontent that followed under a thatcher went on much longer and besides a member of the labour party who parrots this nonsense is a fucking disgrace tbf - even if he gets it all wrong!
