lol we're all gonna die

The Department for Transport has issued new guidance to all British-flagged commercial ships to go to a heightened state of security in the Strait of Hormuz, Sky News understands.

The guidance was issued in recent days in response to concern about an increased threat from Iran in the Gulf, two maritime industry sources said.

British-flagged ships have been advised to keep alert for Iranian patrol boats "being aggressive towards them", one of the sources said.

A separate shipping industry source said his vessels are increasing the number of watch keepers on deck, trying to move through the Strait of Hormuz during daylight hours and travelling at a faster pace than usual to keep safe.

A Department for Transport spokeswoman said: "The Department for Transport, as competent authority, regularly provides Security Advice to UK and Red Ensign Group Shipping on how they should operate in areas of high risk."

Corbyn has mother in law truthers now (the comments are full of people saying his Mexican mother in law “is not a native Spanish speaker, I know as I have spoken many Spanishes in my time”

WATCH: This is bizarre. As reporters tried to ask Jeremy Corbyn about anti-Semitism this morning, a Spanish woman comes out of his house and escorts him to his car shouting in Spanish (among other things) "what's going on? They don't have any idea." pic.twitter.com/jx5M6eBtBA

imagine your job is reporting on politics but you're not aware that corbyn's wife is mexican and so this is likely his mother in law?

Lol it’s just some random Spanish speaking woman shouting for no reason

gyac, Thursday, 11 July 2019 18:23 (six years ago)

jude thread owns

||||||||, Thursday, 11 July 2019 18:57 (six years ago)

she has been asking many of the questions that should have been asked by our esteemed lobby journalists

||||||||, Thursday, 11 July 2019 18:58 (six years ago)

No, Jude should be working for the compliance unit or even heading it up. She’s got tons of relevant work experience.

suzy, Thursday, 11 July 2019 19:37 (six years ago)

She has also been banned from Twitter for harassment, fairly or otherwise, so idk if that’s going to generate the good optics Labour needs at the moment.

ShariVari, Thursday, 11 July 2019 19:42 (six years ago)

It wasn’t fair, fwiw.

suzy, Thursday, 11 July 2019 19:45 (six years ago)

i felt really blessed when she gave me an encouraging response once. i was going through a shit depressed as fuck period with a Section 47 on our house because of a malicious call from a neighbour and getting swamped with wanker social workers. she's a thoroughly good person, one of the best.

calzino, Thursday, 11 July 2019 19:46 (six years ago)

agreed - always remember h3l3n l3wis being really snidely rude about her once. sign she is a goodun

||||||||, Thursday, 11 July 2019 19:58 (six years ago)

Really nice of Hadl3y Fr33man to orchestrate a pile on at her for having an Amazon wish list when she was having some problems working that she’d been discussing with her followers. I have allllll kinds of problems with HF, and some sympathy for psych and health issues she’s had, but financial hardship is something she will never know so making fun of a working-class ex-refugee is some of the worst optics I’ve ever seen.

suzy, Thursday, 11 July 2019 20:58 (six years ago)

New - Jennie Formby writes back to Tom Watson saying she is deeply disappointed by his letter and says he is traducing her while she is in chemo. She denies covering up emails and says her inbox was compromised. pic.twitter.com/i5QtDBhduy

calzino, Friday, 12 July 2019 00:02 (six years ago)

I just don’t understand why the deputy leader of the Labour Party uses the media to demand information from Labour’s General Secretary @JennieGenSec, which has already been offered to him. It goes beyond my understanding that he does so when he knows she’s undergoing chemotherapy

— John McDonnell MP (@johnmcdonnellMP) July 11, 2019

gyac, Friday, 12 July 2019 06:17 (six years ago)

between this, the multiple times he has publicly undermined the leadership, the £540 grand donation from the cosplaying nazi freak, surely they've got enough on him to sack him by now.

calzino, Friday, 12 July 2019 07:29 (six years ago)

Deputy leader is an elected position aiui?

gyac, Friday, 12 July 2019 07:55 (six years ago)

... and very tricky to bring a challenge forward against him aiui.

as much as I think he should be sacked from his DCMS brief, that would probably be very provocative atm

||||||||, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:00 (six years ago)

if we could get a period of serenity we might get a shadow cab reshuffle... doesn’t look likely in the foreseeable tho

||||||||, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:02 (six years ago)

Dawn Foster was correct in saying he is a coward and useless to everyone with his current mo as a saboteur. If he thinks carrying on like this is a noble cause and has any useful endgame, then hanging out with rich bdsm nazis has warped his brain.

calzino, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:06 (six years ago)

Might buy a few weeks of t-wat going back in his box, so that’s a good thing, and there is much to do at DCMS that would actually be, you know, working in the interests of the party.

FWIW my cousin has breast cancer (although unlike Jennie’s hers is inoperable) and her chemo gives her tired days and more active days, but I remember from my own childhood experiences of same that chemo makes a patient CRANKY. What a graceful letter under the circs.

suzy, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:11 (six years ago)

I presume TW won't reply, other than with "I won't rest until blah blah" type stuff? Doesn't seen the type

I had quick look at his twitter, he has 37 followers I know. Why on earth would anyone follow TW? I totally understand following Trump, he's in power and says mad shit, but this guy?

anvil, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:20 (six years ago)

Legacy phone hacking? Like all those old followers Glinner built up before he decided to spend all day every day ranting about Big Trans.

If Corbyn sacked him, the outcry over that Dawn Foster article would pale in comparison to the sheer outrage unleashed.

gyac, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:22 (six years ago)

Sacking him would be a bad move and wouldn't actually achieve very much - it's better to have him inside the tent pissing all over everyone including himself.

He is serially disloyal and has worked to undermine three separate leaders with completely different political perspectives, genuinely don't see how he thinks he can be leader but I think he thinks he can have one of the big Cabinet posts under I dunno Prime Minister Yvette Cooper or whoever. In the unlikely event that happens she would be wise to steer well clear.

Having said that there's clearly something of substance that he is desperate to get out of the open - not necessarily for the right reasons. Whatever that is we might actually benefit from knowing but the whole situation is such a clusterfuck of incompetence and mendacity that I don't really know what to think any more. But, as had been pointed out here before, you don't take half a million quid from the son of Oswald Mosley if you are serious about combating antisemitism wherever it appears in society.

Matt DC, Friday, 12 July 2019 08:37 (six years ago)

If he doesn’t get made leader he can’t blow the lid on the international child trafficking ring being run out of the Letchworth branch of Zizzi so idk, he has to keep plugging away.

iirc a huge part of the reason he was elected Deputy is that he was perceived as one of the least hostile candidates wrt Corbyn. It wasn’t because he had a large centrist following. I can’t see that happening again.

ShariVari, Friday, 12 July 2019 09:22 (six years ago)

Wait, what? He took half a mil from Mosley's son? I don't know the context but...reading your last paragraph, is it overly conspiratorial to think his endgame actually just is "Keep Labour out of power"? I'd just thought he was dumb nothing more than that...but if he's taking money for Big Brownshirt who else is taking it from?

That said, why do you think there's something of substance he's trying to get out, and why doesn't he just say it (other than trying to drag it out as many small hits are way more effective than one big hit)

anvil, Friday, 12 July 2019 09:25 (six years ago)

the context is he gets a good discount on latex nazi bdsm wear!

calzino, Friday, 12 July 2019 09:27 (six years ago)

xp right, the deputy leadership was basically just him v stella creasy (otherwise it was flint, eagle, bradshaw) there was no left candidate

ogmor, Friday, 12 July 2019 09:29 (six years ago)

He's the deputy leader of the Labour Party, gyac OTM about him being the face of phone hacking, one of the most unifying political scandals of the last decade, and he tears strips off Corbyn about antisemitism - him having a large Twitter following should be the opposite to a surprise.

||||||||, Friday, 12 July 2019 09:33 (six years ago)

Watson wants to make the EHRC investigation into Labour antisemitism public so presumably there's something highly damaging and critical in there, that's the bit we might benefit from knowing about.

More generally the Mosley context is that he's Max Mosley's ally in his war against the press and the Murdoch press in particular. Probably out of principle in Watson's case but with Mosley it's more of "keep my orgies private" kind of thing.
