I thank u, sic, although I spent a long while watching a different, much less complete YT playlist (after starting on the even less complete playlist on that one website) so I just wanted to make sure no one else made my stupid mistake. I give this latest playlist five bags of popcorn and a hundred cups of soda.

I Ate Those Food (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 14:28 (six years ago)

The later seasons of Decker aren’t on youtube btw, but iirc they stop interacting directly with On Cinema episodes so it doesn’t stand out badly

(The two Ant-Man movies also don’t appear in the playlist, but do very much affect On Cinema video and twitter content )

forks if you were starting at an early point, try dropping in on a S4 or 5 episode, when the Tim vs Gregg tone is better established & there’s loads of backstory, to see if it pings any better with you

eh I think starting in the beginning obscures what a slow build this show is

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:17 (six years ago)

er starting in the MIDDLE

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:17 (six years ago)

the whole of season 9 seems to be an extended satire on how annoying having dinner service at the Alamo Drafthouses is

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:24 (six years ago)

"Tastes like a mouthful of dirt."

Herman Woke (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:27 (six years ago)

Todd Rundgren appears in the last episode of Decker...I knew that voice was familiar!!

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:28 (six years ago)

"Why was he fired, did he forget to wipe down the microwave?"

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:34 (six years ago)

if someone "completely doesn't get" the show at the beginning, pushing on through twenty episodes of more of the same is probably going to bore and annoy them

oh yeah, the full real-time Trial Of Tim Heidecker coverage isn't on youtube either, just 10-15 minutes highlights from each day (iirc that's all I watched, then switched over for the full verdict)

quelle sprocket damage (sic), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:41 (six years ago)

all 5 hours right here

oops. I meant right here

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 18:45 (six years ago)

the trial is astonishingly great. you HAVE to watch the full thing and not just the highlights.

― Οὖτις, Wednesday, July 3, 2019 11:24 AM (forty-nine minutes ago)

the satire of the kind of fake fancy junk food you get in north america - e.g. everything coming with truffle aoili - was very good

bookmarkflaglink (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 19:16 (six years ago)

I would say you can watch highlights of the trial until Tim fires his attorney and starts defending himself, then switch to the full thing

Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 21:14 (six years ago)

no!!!!!!!

Vape Store (crüt), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 21:15 (six years ago)

a couple of my old acquaintances recently started a video game podcast. I listened to one episode and thought about On Cinema the whole time. one of the guys has probably played 20,000 hours of video games but has absolutely nothing insightful to say about them, it's so spot on that I've almost come to view Tim & Gregg as real people

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 22:07 (six years ago)

Has anyone started an On On Cinema at the Cinema podcast yet

I just watched shakey's clip the other day. It wouldn't be nearly as beautiful without the interviewer's overt lack of interest in Gregg's banalities.

I Ate Those Food (Old Lunch), Saturday, 6 July 2019 00:08 (six years ago)

Can you guess which album changed Gregg's life?

trying to get into this... its humour is not completely lost on me but it’s also extremely fn boring... hmm

flopson, Sunday, 7 July 2019 21:53 (six years ago)

It's probably okay to just stop if you don't feel like it's a five-bagger.

I Ate Those Food (Old Lunch), Monday, 8 July 2019 00:21 (six years ago)

"Do you find yourself struggling with..."

"...mental health issues?"

think ill stay at it for a lil longer

flopson, Monday, 8 July 2019 01:33 (six years ago)

What have you watched / listened to so far?

quelle sprocket damage (sic), Monday, 8 July 2019 02:25 (six years ago)

Me, I just bore witness to the cancellation of Decker season 3 this evening, so it's difficult to put myself back in the headspace of several years ago when I watched a handful of On Cinemas and said 'IDGI'. Suffice it say, I'm glad I got over myself.

I Ate Those Food (Old Lunch), Monday, 8 July 2019 02:41 (six years ago)

now we will never know if Agent Kington would have defeated Dracula

Οὖτις, Monday, 8 July 2019 17:00 (six years ago)

The effects at Dracula's castle were a whole 'nother level of special. I particularly liked the table that followed Gregg around for a while.

"as we all remember so many years ago, a couple of years ago we had the death of osama bin laden, killed in action after we spent years hunting him for the murder of 9/11"

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 03:10 (six years ago)

I would've liked to see Sasha Baron Cohen play the Osama role

frogbs, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 03:20 (six years ago)

this is already amazing by episode 9

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 03:22 (six years ago)

omg I am on the trial now

"What led to your prior arrests?"
"... Misunderstandings"

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 15:31 (six years ago)

"Objection! ... Tonguetwister?"

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 15:32 (six years ago)

i'm pretty much where brad is, i think - i watched all of S1 in one sitting and loved it. absolutely drove my partner crazy though, i think.

i love all the talk about how good it is to see some famous, sometimes washed up, actor "back on the big screen"

i was once Z S, but now i am larry buttz (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 15:32 (six years ago)

we haven't seen russell crowe in a while

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 16:27 (six years ago)

"It's great seeing Brendan Frasier back in a movie again, I've always loved him, and I love looking at Katherine Heigl, she's just the kind of woman I like, in terms of beauty, and sex appeal, she is hot, she is a 10, actually"

"If you've seen the movie, you'd know it's an animated movie about a squirrel"

"You have to admit the technology now is so good that some of these animated movies look like real life"

"Some of them do, but when a squirrel starts talking, you generally know it's an animated picture"

frogbs, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 16:35 (six years ago)

You imagine there ought to be a real life Gregg out there, absolutely ecstatic about the selection of dusty old extremely forgettable VHS movies in some bin at a thrift shop, next to a some CD cases of old computer software, AOL trials, Yanni, baseball games for PS2 etc.

Evan, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 16:41 (six years ago)

Thank u for reminding me of the Nut Job review, frogs. Tim's overreaction to Gregg's joke about it being the name of Tim's autobiography was my first big On Cinema laugh.

Just recently saw some Neil Hamburger footage for the first time since I started watching this show. I don't know how I'd forgotten the extreme disparity between the two sides of Turkington, but it was a stark reminder.

Logy Psycho (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 16:46 (six years ago)

I love that they generally never review actual hits, tentpole pics, oscar winners etc. not even huge mainstream garbage (MCU, Star Wars, Pixar etc) its almost always b-list shit that instantly vanishes from the public consciousness.

aka popcorn classics!

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 16:49 (six years ago)

idk why but every time tim mispronounces an actor's name i completely lose it, thankfully it happens in every single episode

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 16:57 (six years ago)

I especially like a) when assumes that the first and last names were transposed and b) when he assumes that the name on the card must be a misprint because it's not written in the same way that it left his mouth.

Logy Psycho (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 17:03 (six years ago)

If the mispronunciations are tickling your funny bone, watching Decker might actually kill you. Exercise caution!

Logy Psycho (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 17:04 (six years ago)

Tim is great at it. I find it funny cause it reminds me of my dad tbh.

Evan, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 17:09 (six years ago)

I think it's fair to say that Tim Heidecker is the unparalleled master of awkward, error-prone, completely unearned arrogance.

Logy Psycho (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 17:12 (six years ago)

Well theres trump

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 17:13 (six years ago)

Well, yeah.

Logy Psycho (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 10 July 2019 17:18 (six years ago)

what are the odds Alex Jones watches the entire Trial of Tim Heidecker in the week and believes it to be 100% real?

― frogbs, Friday, April 24, 2026 12:30 PM (sixteen minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

doesn't matter if he believes it, he's trying to create a narrative, so either way that's how he'll portray it

Evan, Friday, 24 April 2026 16:48 (one month ago)

this is extraordinarily funny

The New Blockader (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 24 April 2026 16:55 (one month ago)

The Onion newspaper has been rocked by the discovery

how could they have known what they were getting into with Tim

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 24 April 2026 17:11 (one month ago)

zero effort on Jones' part so far. just describing Tim's actual characters and repertoire

mh, Friday, 24 April 2026 17:21 (one month ago)

incredible that Info Wars is now part of the On Cinema extended universe

mick gagger (diamonddave85), Friday, 24 April 2026 17:30 (one month ago)

this made the rounds in alt-right circles a few years ago as "evidence" of tim being pro child abuse - i assume that's where the "pro pedo/child kidnapping" bit comes from

doesn't matter if he believes it, he's trying to create a narrative, so either way that's how he'll portray it

otm, as with all the other shit he's peddled it's not about him believing any of it himself, but about getting his audience to believe

feel like I'm gonna have a stroke watching these

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 24 April 2026 17:46 (one month ago)

I think there possibly was a racist, Bircher-influenced Alex Jones that existed and did an exaggerated kayfabe-style act for his show years ago, but I don't think he's anything but the one thing now. All of the attention and god knows what supplements and chronic alcoholism means his brain is just like that 24/7 now. So there's no "game recognize game" here, his brain is as red, nude, and mad as the rest of him

Tim can turn it all off and be a normal guy or a completely different guy at any moment and I would like to think somewhere in Jones' brain there's two neurons firing back and forth that are even angrier about that fact

mh, Friday, 24 April 2026 17:52 (one month ago)

similar to how Andrew Dice Clay and Larry the Cable Guy started as characters that they played for so long that they eventually just became those guys

frogbs, Friday, 24 April 2026 19:16 (one month ago)

I mean, I feel like for most Trump voters it started as kayfabe that became real the more and more they got dragged into the right wing ecosphere, its probably the same for the folks making this shit. the stuff that came out during that divorce/custody battle def seems to imply that its not just a character anymore

frogbs, Friday, 24 April 2026 19:18 (one month ago)

xp the Diceman kinda redeemed himself by being in actual films, I have no idea what Larry is up to and don't really care

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 24 April 2026 19:19 (one month ago)

I should check and see if he survived the pandemic

frogbs, Friday, 24 April 2026 19:25 (one month ago)

Whitney currently works as a radio personality for Sirius XM's Jeff & Larry's Comedy Roundup channel

Larry the Cable Guy being a Nebraska guy gets me every time, but he may have been the harbinger of the many rural midwesterners who didn't have any specific cultural signposts and just started pretending to be southerners. I guess in a different way, that's a bunch of midwestern guys in music, all the way from Ted Nugent to Kid Rock

mh, Friday, 24 April 2026 20:15 (one month ago)

i assume that's where the "pro pedo/child kidnapping" bit comes from

jones did a whole infowars episode yelling over this and a few other sketches the other day

ufo, Friday, 24 April 2026 22:05 (one month ago)

On Cinema references everywhere you look online today

frogbs, Saturday, 25 April 2026 04:52 (one month ago)

I'm pretty sure Alex Jones knows how stupid this all sounds, it doesn't matter why you click and discuss, it just matters that you do so at all

Cattedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria de Episcopio, Saturday, 25 April 2026 05:10 (one month ago)

there's no "game recognize game" here, his brain is as red, nude, and mad as the rest of him

his broadcaster / character-writer’s instinct is probably still vestigially operating, to seize on skits or say the killer of the Electric Sun 20 is a real mugshot, instead of just yelling his real grievances. but yeah there’s probably not a person-Jones behind the kayfabe who knows the gag is for rubes.
