something something more like theme park something something.

I probably wouldn't find most of the takes convincing or at all useful.
I often find that when people try to describe these type of big ideas behind their favorite thing, they come across a bit dishonest, like they're flattering themselves and describing something very different to the thing they actually enjoyed. Although the big theme doesn't necessarily have to be the thing they enjoyed about it.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 28 June 2019 22:04 (six years ago)
don't even know where to start with that...
― Οὖτις, Friday, 28 June 2019 22:29 (six years ago)
Let’s just cut to the chase. The big theme tgat everybody loved but refuses to talk about was gratuitous nudity
― i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Friday, 28 June 2019 22:33 (six years ago)
for me it was the incest
― VAR me to the end of yawn (jim in vancouver), Friday, 28 June 2019 22:35 (six years ago)
don't forget the raping
― Οὖτις, Friday, 28 June 2019 22:37 (six years ago)
sometimes all in the same scene! truly it was a magical era of television.
don't think there was any nudity in series 8? someone should make a graph.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 28 June 2019 22:44 (six years ago)
Bronn in the brothel with 3 women - scene was pretty much the writers going lol remember how much we used to do stuff like this
― nashwan, Friday, 28 June 2019 22:46 (six years ago)
oh yeah, forgot that scene as it was so out of place. last nude named character was quite a while back, surely?
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 28 June 2019 22:48 (six years ago)
this season *almost* Arya and later Brienne
― omar little, Friday, 28 June 2019 22:52 (six years ago)
a season 1 version version of Euron would have been naked all the time except for a bandana
― i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Friday, 28 June 2019 23:03 (six years ago)
Brandana
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 28 June 2019 23:28 (six years ago)
Euron is a homophone of urine and yet there were relatively few golden shower scenes iirc

Groans at most people who say "what it means to be human" as their overarching theme.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 29 June 2019 14:28 (six years ago)
Well, at least we know that whatever it's about, Game of Thrones is most definitely *not* about "what it means to be human." Maybe what it means to be not-human? Perhaps, if they actually bothered to answer that question.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 29 June 2019 15:27 (six years ago)
Well, at least we know that whatever it's about
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, June 29, 2019 4:27 PM
maybe 2 times out of 10, but much of the time that description tells you nothing or is really inaccurate.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 29 June 2019 17:43 (six years ago)
Thread imitates its subject matter by devolving into an unsatisfactory detente between a couple of people who never cared that much about the title object to begin with
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 29 June 2019 18:42 (six years ago)
I mostly return to the thread for the gif of the ice zombie falling off his horse in front of a green screen, which I think more than anything captures a certain truth about this show.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 29 June 2019 18:48 (six years ago)
You sure that's not just the interpretation that flatters you?
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 30 June 2019 18:34 (six years ago)
I'm fine with the hating onthread but I find these approaches odd.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 30 June 2019 18:35 (six years ago)
But you are right about the falling off horse gif, I was just joking around.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 30 June 2019 18:37 (six years ago)
emmy noms for everyone in the cast, basically: https://www.vulture.com/2019/07/emmy-nominations-2019.html

― Roz, Friday, 19 July 2019 08:40 (six years ago)
Lame that they didnt submit her, easily one of the best performances in the show
― bookmarkflaglink (jim in vancouver), Friday, 19 July 2019 09:10 (six years ago)
They didn’t submit Melessandre or Theon either and they got nominated as well
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 19 July 2019 11:44 (six years ago)
Christie getting herself nominated would be much more impressive if they had been more discriminate. Headey, really?
― Simon H., Friday, 19 July 2019 13:39 (six years ago)
Yeah, they nominated everyone but Yara.
― Mazzy Tsar (PBKR), Friday, 19 July 2019 14:01 (six years ago)
I assumed the nominations were kind of a lifetime achievement award, since the last seasons were so bad?
― Karl Malone, Friday, 19 July 2019 14:09 (six years ago)
headey probably deserved one for a past season so i wouldn't be mad if she won.

the script for the finale confirms that Benioff and Weiss are complete morons (not that we didn't already know)

I still haven't gotten around to watching the final season of this. I guess I should just not bother at this point? I'm tempted to just read the wikipedia synopsis (or the novels, I guess, if they ever come into existence)
― silverfish, Thursday, 15 August 2019 19:34 (six years ago)
yeah, don't watch it; it's hot garbage. zombie fight is fun, but stupid.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 15 August 2019 19:36 (six years ago)
I'll wait for the wikipedia article about the podcasts about the crowd-funded remake of the final season thank you
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 15 August 2019 19:36 (six years ago)
Ellis has a good eye for details there, cf Bronn abandoning his gold at the loot train to save Jaime vs him a season later being easily bribed into killing Jaime and Tyrion

If you've got low expectations (as I did), you'll probably enjoy it.
― chap, Friday, 16 August 2019 09:02 (six years ago)
It's enjoyable enough up until the final episode which is a complete car crash.
― Matt DC, Friday, 16 August 2019 09:48 (six years ago)
It's not great, but it's fine. It easily hurdles over the low bar of being better than the BSG and Lost finales, at least.
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 16 August 2019 11:57 (six years ago)
The season or two before it wasn't great either. If you enjoyed those keep with it? There's stuff to enjoy regardless.
― Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Friday, 16 August 2019 12:09 (six years ago)
Last season is worse than having your nuts smashed in a car door, better than having them caught in a moving escalator.
― Mazzy Tsar (PBKR), Friday, 16 August 2019 12:11 (six years ago)
I'd rather spend an eternity in hell rewatching the finale than a disappointed fan vlog about the finale
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 16 August 2019 12:16 (six years ago)
the last season isn't so bad if you think of it as a very long action movie starring actors who previously appeared on the tv show Game of Thrones
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 16 August 2019 12:41 (six years ago)
It was the last ever episode of Numberblocks this week, now that's how you nail a finale.
