whaaaaaaattttt???
― maura, Monday, 8 July 2019 14:52 (six years ago)
gotta say this is definitely a show that gets the most out of its guest stars. I'd imagine pretty much all of those sketches were written with someone in mind.
― frogbs, Monday, 8 July 2019 14:56 (six years ago)
So it seems one of this show's best tricks is to suddenly reverse the peripheral "straight man" supporting/side characters into active participants in the silliness.
― Evan, Monday, 8 July 2019 20:32 (six years ago)
This show has some real good bits but I can 100% do without the lazy, post-Tim & Eric wacky edit stuff.

Teacher's pet!
YES
also Yes, Donald looks like a hot dog but you're wearing an actual hot-dog costume
they are both the same actor too :) I may have watched Car Focus Group fifty times or more.
― Funky Isolations (jed_), Monday, 8 July 2019 22:04 (six years ago)
the high school teen romance set up for the TC Tuggers sketch is so perfectly filmed.
― Funky Isolations (jed_), Monday, 8 July 2019 22:06 (six years ago)
yeah I love this sort of thing, sketch comedy is inheritably predictable so I like that this show really isn't. though this is also sort of a Tim & Eric thing.

i don't know if it's the BEST sketch in the show but the nachos sketch feels like the epitome of ITYSL. also has the best tim robinson fake-flabbergasted acting.

Forgive the thread spam, but I wanted to note that this show's 2019 season is nominated in the 2019 ILX TV poll:

If you like this show and you'd like to see it have a good showing in the poll (running in February) all you need to do is submit a ballot including it and your other favorites (4 minimum, 25 maximum, organized by your favorite to least favorite) to forksclovetofu at gmail by end of day today. It'll take five minutes; get to it!
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 14:28 (six years ago)
rewatching this again, its definitely hitting me now how much this show seems to be influenced by "weird Twitter" sort of humor. I know dril was mentioned upthread but it's more than that. I see stills from this all over the place on social media (since I only follow the best & funniest people) and I'm starting to think that was by design

or the shots of people sneaking onto the construction site in the dead of night which you think is going to be a major plot point only to find out it's a bunch of people racing RC trucks. but it becomes a major plot point because it causes Ron to snap and shove Jeff.

In a similar vein, all the Chekhov’s guns which never resolve - like the concussion thing which actually does pop up again but is completely ignored
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 19:10 (four months ago)
(Which apparently people are using to theorize that all the lunacy is the result of Ron hitting his head one too may times) I dunno, I can’t ever imagine trying to elaborate grand theories to explain any of the ‘mysteries’ of this show
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 19:13 (four months ago)
haha anyone thinking that there are hidden clues that will eventually tie it all together are like charlie brown kicking the football. i'm not a betting man but i'd be pretty comfortable wagering that season 2 of this show will just feature more and more threads spiraling off into more and more absurd directiones
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 22:37 (four months ago)
I dunno that brain injury thing makes a lot of sense
― Heez, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 22:53 (four months ago)
exactly
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 22 January 2026 12:19 (four months ago)
yeah among other things the show is clearly satirizing the format of those kind of longform mystery/puzzlebox shows and the way that viewers are conditioned to engage with them
― waste of compute (One Eye Open), Thursday, 22 January 2026 15:33 (four months ago)
I think the head injury thing messes with the show's central premise, that yes Ron is nuts but these things actually are happening? Granted the supernatural elements introduced at the end may need to be explained away somehow. Though I suspect Lavator is right, shows like this don't often get *less* crazy in Season 2
