xp, it wasn’t just defending CK, she was going through the whole schtick about neoliberal feminism demanding safe spaces, etc, to a comedian who’d complained about being sexually harassed in the past and who objected to clubs booking known sex pests. Get over it! Comedy clubs aren’t a real workplace!

You can’t judge a podcast by its listeners but there were huge numbers of people (comparatively, for a show with under 3000 Patreon patrons) jumping in to attack the comedian as unattractive, hysterical, etc.

Marianne Williamson comes off as an interesting, well-spoken but not really convincing figure in that interview. I'm glad they did it cause she's genuinely unique, but I'd be surprised if they kept talking about her all that much in the future. They're not wrong to say she's one of a small number of candidates presenting a vision for change, but her actual pitch doesn't support much scrutiny.

That said, I'm kinda glad they shunned Gravel but went for her instead

why didn't they ask about this? did the interview tape before she made that statement?

Possibly, but they were really more interested in asking her wtf her "politics of love" is about and how it relates to socialism/social justice more broadly than in individual policies/positions

for how edgy they are they tend to be pretty softball interviewers but I guess they mostly have friends or ppl they like on

she's definitely more serious/interesting than most of the Democratic field but a) the bar is very low and b) she just as definitely wallpapers over a lot of hard questions with flowery rhetoric and her easy-to-listen-to delivery of said rhetoric.

Those books are at the very heart of Williamson's campaign. She's running for the same damn reasons that Herman Cain ran. Trump, too, for that matter. She's just using it to increase her reach into the public consciousness. It'll work, too.

everyone is mad at the deeply stupid Anna/Amber interview, but I would rather highlight Matt's excellent new Inebriated Past, which makes the most coherent case for Bernie as the closest-to-correct candidate for the historical moment that I've heard anyone make.

That interview is unfathomably stupid at every turn.

tried to listen to their debate roundup and I felt like I was just listening to a very slightly edgier and leftier version of pretty much any political podcast

tbf all debate commentary is per se bad and all early primary commentary is per se bad. No one should even talk about these things imo.

yeah, it's pretty dumb that they repeatedly and correctly point out that the debates don't really matter but then do point-by-point analysis anyway. but also, content ain't gonna produce itself

Virgil wonk episodes are always painful.

The election night stream was 10X more awkward because Virgil clearly wanted to do a serious election night thing while Matt got blackout drunk and suicidal.

Basically nobody has any idea about anything at this point so trying to come up with a good take (at least one that isn't just based around why a candidate is actually good or not) is always a loser.

caught a bit of one the recent chapo eps the other night - my gf puts on podcasts at bedtime - and they were covering, with righteous indignation,a bret stephenson piece were he pretends he will ever vote democrat in the general and that the dems should care about his opinions and not be "too far-left" etc. and fair enough, that absolute dogshit should be greeted with opprobrium, but it just feels very deja vu at this stage.
