No I don't... who are most people and what do they find objectionable about RS? fat-shaming? saying retard? being a tradwife?
Their doubling down on defending sex offenders and creeps and dismissing/belittling people’s concerns about them as “neoliberal hysteria” or whatever. That’s the truly heinous shit IMO
― Conceptualize Wyverns (latebloomer), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 01:57 (six years ago)
how did this most recent harrumph re: RS get started anyway? am I missing something they said off the pod?
Not sure of the exact sequence of events but the gist is that a female comedian was voicing her objections on Twitter about Louis CK playing at a festival on and the RS gals and their reply army chimed in with their idiocy and etc etc etc
― Conceptualize Wyverns (latebloomer), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 02:08 (six years ago)
The absolute madmen, they actually did it
BONUS: The Marianne Williamson InterviewVirgil and Matt sit down with Presidential candidate @marwilliamson.🔮🔮🔮🔮🔮🔮🔮🔮🔮🔮https://t.co/wAPE39ozqW#OrbGang #MarianneMindset— Chapo Trap House (@CHAPOTRAPHOUSE) June 26, 2019

defending Louis C.K. is not heinous. stupid? definitely"reply army"... christ
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 06:15 (six years ago)
i feel like anna used to be good at twitter
― flopson, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 06:18 (six years ago)
She was, though a large part of that is probably that she posted so infrequently. She has become a parodic blend of Paglia and Nassim Taleb.
xp, it wasn’t just defending CK, she was going through the whole schtick about neoliberal feminism demanding safe spaces, etc, to a comedian who’d complained about being sexually harassed in the past and who objected to clubs booking known sex pests. Get over it! Comedy clubs aren’t a real workplace!
You can’t judge a podcast by its listeners but there were huge numbers of people (comparatively, for a show with under 3000 Patreon patrons) jumping in to attack the comedian as unattractive, hysterical, etc.
― ShariVari, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 06:36 (six years ago)
Yes, but when that army isn't attacking you it's easy to ignore.
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 07:53 (six years ago)
Marianne Williamson comes off as an interesting, well-spoken but not really convincing figure in that interview. I'm glad they did it cause she's genuinely unique, but I'd be surprised if they kept talking about her all that much in the future. They're not wrong to say she's one of a small number of candidates presenting a vision for change, but her actual pitch doesn't support much scrutiny.
― Simon H., Wednesday, 26 June 2019 08:01 (six years ago)
That said, I'm kinda glad they shunned Gravel but went for her instead
― Simon H., Wednesday, 26 June 2019 08:02 (six years ago)
Is she the anti-vaccine one?
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 08:05 (six years ago)
Apparently she supports mandatory vaccines "when they're called for", whatever that means. (it didn't come up in the interview.)
― Simon H., Wednesday, 26 June 2019 08:10 (six years ago)
you know, for diseases that are really bad(insert your own logic on which ones qualify)
― mh, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 12:27 (six years ago)
I feel like flappy keeps saying well it's silly people are just reacting to X and c'mon that's not a big deal but so your examples of X really make it seem like they are horrible
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 13:25 (six years ago)
ha they were on their best behavior with Marianne Williamson. She comes off as less of a joke than I thought. To the point that I could see her havoing a moment at the debates.
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 13:38 (six years ago)
they were overpowered by the radiant light of her orb
― big beautiful wario (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 13:40 (six years ago)
I was with her until she got to the "socialism is just when the state does things like make a police force, I am smart and have read a lot of Marx" and from there I found it tough to take her seriously

why didn't they ask about this? did the interview tape before she made that statement?
― old cloud yells at man (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 14:14 (six years ago)
Possibly, but they were really more interested in asking her wtf her "politics of love" is about and how it relates to socialism/social justice more broadly than in individual policies/positions
― Simon H., Wednesday, 26 June 2019 14:17 (six years ago)
for how edgy they are they tend to be pretty softball interviewers but I guess they mostly have friends or ppl they like on
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 14:17 (six years ago)
"politics of love"
maybe i should just listen to the podcast cause this sounds like warmed-over corey booker-esque horseshit.
― old cloud yells at man (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 14:26 (six years ago)
they're eating it up in istanbul
― ogmor, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 14:27 (six years ago)
she's definitely more serious/interesting than most of the Democratic field but a) the bar is very low and b) she just as definitely wallpapers over a lot of hard questions with flowery rhetoric and her easy-to-listen-to delivery of said rhetoric.
― Simon H., Wednesday, 26 June 2019 14:31 (six years ago)
orrrrrrb gaaaaaaang
― oiocha, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 15:34 (six years ago)
Love, socialism, it's all just semantics
― maffew12, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 15:36 (six years ago)
(this occurs about 10min in)
i liked her interview but lol @ when they asked how she would face a hostile congress and her answer was basically thru the power of good vibes.
― oiocha, Wednesday, 26 June 2019 15:36 (six years ago)
tbf, that's basically what biden is saying too
― old cloud yells at man (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 15:37 (six years ago)
She’s a compelling speaker in her way but uh I have questions about anyone whose books include:
The Law of Divine Compensation: On Work, Money and Miracles
A Course in Weight Loss: 21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever

When I was a lad you couldn't be a grifter and dream of one day occupying the White House, but those barriers have been broken. truly a beautiful thing.

wait were you being sarcastic, friend?I typically enjoy the chapos but this is my first time wading into any sort of online discussion around itThey messed up their livestream last night and there was no "pregame", only them talking over the debate. Pretty brutal, tuned out early.

Those books are at the very heart of Williamson's campaign. She's running for the same damn reasons that Herman Cain ran. Trump, too, for that matter. She's just using it to increase her reach into the public consciousness. It'll work, too.
― A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 27 June 2019 18:27 (six years ago)
everyone is mad at the deeply stupid Anna/Amber interview, but I would rather highlight Matt's excellent new Inebriated Past, which makes the most coherent case for Bernie as the closest-to-correct candidate for the historical moment that I've heard anyone make.
― Simon H., Friday, 5 July 2019 16:43 (six years ago)
That interview is unfathomably stupid at every turn.
― Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 5 July 2019 16:59 (six years ago)
tbh I'm hoping Amber just hops over to Red Scare at this point
― Simon H., Friday, 5 July 2019 17:00 (six years ago)
tried to listen to their debate roundup and I felt like I was just listening to a very slightly edgier and leftier version of pretty much any political podcast
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 5 July 2019 17:02 (six years ago)
tbf all debate commentary is per se bad and all early primary commentary is per se bad. No one should even talk about these things imo.
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 5 July 2019 17:03 (six years ago)
yeah, it's pretty dumb that they repeatedly and correctly point out that the debates don't really matter but then do point-by-point analysis anyway. but also, content ain't gonna produce itself
― Simon H., Friday, 5 July 2019 17:09 (six years ago)
Virgil wonk episodes are always painful.
The election night stream was 10X more awkward because Virgil clearly wanted to do a serious election night thing while Matt got blackout drunk and suicidal.
― Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 5 July 2019 17:11 (six years ago)
Basically nobody has any idea about anything at this point so trying to come up with a good take (at least one that isn't just based around why a candidate is actually good or not) is always a loser.
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 5 July 2019 17:11 (six years ago)
Matt got blackout drunk and suicidal
more proof that Matt is the best chapo, this is the correct response to being forced to cover these things
― Simon H., Friday, 5 July 2019 17:12 (six years ago)
caught a bit of one the recent chapo eps the other night - my gf puts on podcasts at bedtime - and they were covering, with righteous indignation,a bret stephenson piece were he pretends he will ever vote democrat in the general and that the dems should care about his opinions and not be "too far-left" etc. and fair enough, that absolute dogshit should be greeted with opprobrium, but it just feels very deja vu at this stage.
― bookmarkflaglink (jim in vancouver), Friday, 5 July 2019 17:19 (six years ago)
This is blowing up a bit:
uhhhh i guess this was calculated to get a rise out of people, but it's still really bad for one of the Chapo people to give a friendly interview to Spiked, a far-right publication – & for her co-interviewee to use it to slag off anti-fascists?? wtf @CHAPOTRAPHOUSE pic.twitter.com/tyB6UBsCOM— molly smith (@pastachips) July 5, 2019

amazing to me how much time and energy you guys put into deciphering the internicene convolutions of what are essentially obscure talk radio hosts
― Οὖτις, Friday, 5 July 2019 17:45 (six years ago)
when i had a twitter account i was well-versed in all sorts of controversies of this ilk and it took basically no effort on my part at all. definitely not something i miss knowing about mind you
― bookmarkflaglink (jim in vancouver), Friday, 5 July 2019 17:48 (six years ago)
what and where is this Anna interview?Chapo seems more bearable when you just stick to the podcast.
