If anybody would be interested in us talking to Ben Burgis y’all about his new book on argumentation and Ben Shapiro-types, we just posted both parts of our episode with him:

I'm not sure how on board with their pro-Sanders arguments vs. Warren work if Sanders can't pull more than 15% of the dem base. How can he rally a mass of the entire population to enact his agenda if he can barely crack 15% of the left?

i think his appeal would be the corbyn thing. he will bring out the people that don't usually vote due to being disenfranchised- young working class people - and in the general he'll get the liberal voters that would eschew him in the primary.
― findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 20 June 2019 18:43 (four years ago) link
biden is the front runner in the dem primary so I'm assuming they're not a very "left" cohort of people. liberal baby boomers mainly i guess? (sorry, no idea of the social composition of registered democrats)
i was at a retirement party on monday with a well-heeled, retired, baby boomer liberal who is heavily involved with some expat democrat org here and who hates sanders with the fire of a thousand burning suns and was in for biden.

i found him quite genial so i didn't go in on handsy uncle joe at him
I understand the appeal but I don't see Bernie making it real. His campaign feels like its running on autopilot. Maybe the polls are skewed but uh, thats a bullshit excuse.

FWIW at this moment in previous election campaigns:
2008 Dem: Clinton led by 13.2 points2008 GOP: Giuliani led by 7 points2016 GOP: Bush led by 2 points
And Hillary led by 50 points atm for 2016, and there are fifty people running right now. Definitely true that Sanders isn't blowing anyone away right now (and Warren feels like the person who will beat out Biden), but there is just a massive amount of time between now and when it counts. Super Tuesday isn't until March 3, 2020 – a bunch of stuff is going to happen between now and then! I think a lot of people are just in a holding pattern, waiting for everyone but Biden / Warren / Sanders / Harris / XXXXXX to drop out.

this is the correct take on Amber's bullshit, from the subreddit:
Had Louis C.K. never been accused, Amber would be criticizing Louis C.K. as a faux woke white male feminist who’s almost definitely a sex creep. Since her politics are based on culturally conservative bullshit, she defends him precisely *because* he was accused.

What irritates me about RS isn’t so much their edgelordery as it is their self-importance. They want to be Lady Cumtown but at least Cumtown doesn’t pretend to be anything but a dumb joke podcast. RS occasionally seems to flirt with believing they’re saying something of substance. Of course if anyone tries to criticize what they say they fall back on “get a life, it’s just jokes”. They’re so tedious.

from what I've gathered Red Scare is the contrarian "whooo, look at how leftists make everything into an overblown issue, sometimes I just want traditional whatever, being retrograde is fine and entertaining"
which might be novel or even edgy if you're in your early 20s but it's basically the shtick I've seen a half dozen times in my lifetime and eventually nearly every one of these people acting like they're the counter-culture to what they feel are woke norms end up turning into gavin mcinnes or pulling off their masks to reveal they always were
― mh, Monday, 24 June 2019 19:10 (four years ago) link
I mean, the current wave of socially conscious activism has people genuinely affecting change and doing hard work to build lasting effects and those who are on a bandwagon, but overall the progress we're seeing needs a lot more of the former to actually stick. Getting real societal change when it comes to entrenched misogyny, class consciousness, etc. isn't something where you've "solved" it and someone waves a big victory flag
it's cool to joke on your peers in passing about that kind of thing, but doing so as a media exercise makes me wonder how many of these people are also the "come on, you don't have it THAT bad" libertarian types

xp I feel like her book snuck out in the crossover period where people hadn't yet realized that all of the original people from zero books (the publisher) had left and they were on the verge of just releasing a mixed bag of increasingly questionable junk
not to say everything from the original group was good, but there was a definite shift

Angle Nagle says "SJW feminists" have a "strange sexual politics" because they believe consent is crucial to prevent sexual harassment, assault and rape. She then weirdly ties this in with them being for the legalisation of abortion and prostitution, implying she opposes that pic.twitter.com/6xq0xrwREi— ☀️👀 (@zei_nabq) October 6, 2018
