Honestly wondering what would have happened to Boris if TM hadn’t put him in her cabinet.

Outgoing UK diplomat slams ‘chaotic politics’ and Brexit ‘shambles’

Wightman also likened the damage to Britain's reputation in the last three years to the battle known as the Fall of Singapore in 1942.

"It transformed their view of British imperialism," he added. "Things were never the same again. The last three years have done the same for Singaporeans’ view of contemporary Britain. The nation they admired for stability, common sense, tolerance and realism grounded in fact, they see beset by division, obsessed with ideology, careless of the truth, its leaders apparently determined to keep on digging.

Johnson says the economy is achieving Grand Prix speeds without firing on all cylinders.

He says it is important to unite the country. Parts of the UK feel left behind. We need better infrastructure. Spain has much better hi-speed broadband. Leeds has no metro rail. This is madness, he says.

Lol, christ this fucking guy. There's an awful inevitability to all this though isn't there?

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 10:28 (seven years ago)

You can build all the metro rails you want there, it's still Leeds

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 10:40 (seven years ago)

I think the current express trains in use already travel out of Leeds at a completely adequate speed.

time for someone in the media to start dragging out some choice quotes from Nincompoopolis. Something that nails the incompetence and corruption in one short paragraph.

Brexit: Leaked cabinet note admits UK not ready for no-deal exit on October 31, blowing hole in Boris Johnson leadership pledge

Build up adequate stockpiles of medicines for a no-deal Brexit will take 'six to eight months', leaked cabinet note says

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-no-deal-boris-johnson-medicine-supply-drug-stockpile-nhs-a8955021.html

This will make: no difference

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 11:16 (seven years ago)

For all he's a clown, he's absolutely right about metro rail in Leeds, mind. As I understand it, Leeds City Council have been pleading for it for years but it requires a central government decision and that has been unforthcoming.

I wouldn't trust him to be (or to appoint) the person to implement a good solution.

Tim, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 11:30 (seven years ago)

I think a Heavy Woolen District metro rail would be money better spent and at least you might see some decent pubs and not be anywhere near fucking Leeds!

calzino, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 11:44 (seven years ago)

Have they not been doing this in the extra time window? Colour me fucking shocked.

stress tweeting (gyac), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 11:47 (seven years ago)

it should make a serious difference because it proves that anyone backing no-deal is quite happy to see people die, but it probably wont.

I regret to inform you that Alex Sobel is bad now

Great to host @BirdRide in Parliament today to show that Electric Scooters 🛴 are a viable alternative to other urban transport options and without the tail emissions. Excellent support from so many MPs including @RuthCadbury @KerryMP @tobyperkinsmp @JanetDaby @SirRogerGaleMP pic.twitter.com/zD6Tpr7m07

Scooters are second only to runners in the category of worst urban pedestrians.

A spokesman for Jeremy Corbyn said that even the vote was lost today, the party would seek other parliamentary mechanisms to block no deal, such as a potential no confidence vote in a prime minister pushing for such a course. He said:

If we are not successful we will find other mechanisms to arrive at the same outcomes.

calzino, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:15 (seven years ago)

If it's not happened in 15 minutes, Sajid will have to push his launch back another hour (it was originally supposed to be 2:30)

Anna Soubry raises a point of order. She says this debate was only meant to be lasting an hour, but there are only 20 minutes left. Will other MPs get to speak?

John Bercow, the Speaker, says although the debate was listed for an hour, it could run until 8.33pm. He does not expect to run for that long, he says. But he expects several other MPs to speak, he says.

lol fuck Sajid

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:17 (seven years ago)

Anna Soubry in classic "have arranged to meet a friend after work for a pint" mode

FernandoHierro, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:18 (seven years ago)

she always seems so completely charmless, maybe she's a bit more easygoing + a bit of a laugh after a few pints?

calzino, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:23 (seven years ago)

after some cheeky pints of course a Nandos often follows, like winter following the fall.

calzino, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:29 (seven years ago)

She seems as if in terms of time or location, she’s never that far from a G&T.

Lab's bill has lost. Sajid please carry on now.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 15:52 (seven years ago)

Sajid Javid is speaking now.

He says he is used to being told he was different. As a young child he remembers being advised by friends they had to walk home a different route because they were being threatened.

His friends went abroad on holidays. He went to Rochdale, but his friends did not realise, because it looked like he had a tan.

...!

App hasn’t updated with the votes yet, to the site I guess...

It was the abstentions that killed this. 10 Tories voted for the motion. Note Angela Smith abstaining there.

What do these fuckos think is going to happen when they end up with No Deal? Do they think everyone is going to somehow thank the Conservative Party and gift them a majority if they can somehow haul their malnourished arses to the polling station?

The ensuing pandemonium would be but a necessary prelude to the new [insert political persuasion] dawn.
