lol, first thing I think of from that tweet is p badshaw's 5 star review of gaspar noe's enter the void or some other git on that awful dross holy motors. but then i guiltily think of my own clownish hyperbolic bullshit that i've conveniently wiped from my memory over all sorts of other noisy dross over the years!

Ok I’ve been swayed, I will check it out. I haven’t seen any other Martel but have heard great things about La Cineaga in particular.

xp yeah, La Flor opens in the US this August and Dead Souls only had a limited showing at NY Anthology FIlm Archives last December as far as I know

the hardest part of organizing a ballot for me will be the 'new-to-you' older films from prior years, I watched so many classic films for the first time in 2018

Martel can take some getting used to; Zama is a *little* more plotty tho

I didn't mind the pace, I just cannot get into body horror. I'll check out Zama and keep plugging away with the rest. I thought a lot of the composition in La Cineaga was striking.

there's no body horror in Zama (which is not to say there's no bodily injury)

it is maybe more abstract than her previous films but there is so much to contemplate with it
