I like the rivette I’ve seen so I guess I’m just not that put off by annoying theatre troupes. The “gaps” are part of the film’s impact for me, there was a v deliberate strategy with the direction I felt (which involved putting a lot of trust in the performers, and I liked how the film dramatised the risk involved in this w the director character); as I said above I was a bit wary that it would be 90 minutes of cat/sea turtle but I had a rare emotional response to this movie!

Have you seen any other Martel? Zama is way up there for me, you should def check it out. I mean people can randomly call almost anything a secret horror movie

Zama's top-5 for me, a black comedy with a bleak punchline.

"secret horror movie" isn't a real thing, like if there's a zombie or a dracula or a ghost or whatever in the movie it's never a surprise tbqh

xp yeah, La Flor opens in the US this August and Dead Souls only had a limited showing at NY Anthology FIlm Archives last December as far as I know

the hardest part of organizing a ballot for me will be the 'new-to-you' older films from prior years, I watched so many classic films for the first time in 2018
