The led by donkeys campaign is counterproductive because it’s not convincing anyone who’s going to vote for the Brexit party/no deal headbangers. They’re making arguments based on fact to voters deciding based on emotion and irrational reasons. At worst, they’re publicising the views of extremely dodgy people without those people having to pay to do so. I’m not sure who was supposed to be won over by the Widdecombe one where she’s denouncing gay people - some of that voter coalition might see her views as a feature, not a bug.

you say it like the lumpen masses simply cannot see any kind of reason at all. sure there's a minority of entrenched fuckwits but imo it's equally dangerous to assume that people can't be won around when presented with evidence of obvious hypocrisy. sure, they may base many of their decisions on emotion but very few adult humans are completely incapable of reason - they're usually just a bit reluctant to admit they're wrong, or admit that big daddy england isn't the biggest daddy in the playground. at least LBD are doing something. i can't see how it's counterproductive - at worst, it's ineffectual - they're surely not convincing more people to vote brexit party. and they took down the widdecombe one sharpish when someone pointed out that britain might still be full of homophobes (they ought to have known, mind)

"At least...doing something" isn't actually a good thing per se though. The idea that action is inherently better than non-action is flawed. I can see the appeal, but not knowing where you are and setting off in some direction isn't inherently better than staying put

Its foregrounding of Brexit at expense of other things keeps Brexit as number one issue in media, and foregrounds the divide as between 'leavers' and 'remainers', when actually the more important divide in the country is between 'Brexit primary factor in my vote' vs 'Brexit not a primary factor in my vote'. And not only the more important but potentially the more fruitful

Its misunderstanding of the importance of the 'ethical' character of the main players, but no one gaf. It doesn't matter to people if the person bringing the Brexit is a donkey or a lion or a capybara. Imagine Trump had same personality but policies you liked - who cares about his personality now, no one. This resistance 'look at the bad man' stuff doesn't really work, but where its counter-productive is the people you need to persuade think you're calling THEM donkeys. its playing to the gallery

they did that poster of a pre-Brexit party Farage tweet stating the NHS should be replaced by a US style private insurance system. I thought that was good because part of his recent polling success has been because no-one has heard any of his terrible politics for ages and one-issuedom is the easiest game in town for a party.

but just about everything else I've seen by LBD has been a waste of time and space.

Even this though, eg whats to stop me thinking 'ok but I'm only going to vote Farage until I get Brexit and then I'll vote for Labour". Even if this convinces them Farage himself is bad.....there's nothing to say why Brexit is bad.

This seems the big mistake currently with these so called victories against Farage, Shapiro, Widdecombe, or whoever else. Its all on the representative not the project, they're happy to take those hits, its validation while the project remains safe

I like the basic principle of presenting facts in this way. There's a lot of room for improvement. The Johnson video was a useful reminder to me that he'd said that about Trump but yeah I don't see LBD's approach really changing minds on its own.

Think LBD will be seen by brexiteers as an elitist thing. It creates a divide between those who "get it" and those who don't, where those who don't should be the ones who do get it, but aren't. And the people they're trying to reach or convince will not want to get it. It'll be dismissed as Europhile/Labour/Commie trite.
