saw one show with him, didn't even realize it until the end -- he was actually down a fair bit after the first round. tbh he seemed considerably less smug/annoying than i'd have expected of a professional gambler kicking everyone's asses

mookieproof, Monday, 3 June 2019 19:39 (seven years ago)

He seems like a decent enough guy and all but I stopped watching a few weeks ago because it just felt kind of boring - which seems kind of fickle on my part but still.

joygoat, Monday, 3 June 2019 20:35 (seven years ago)

he comes off as extremely sweet and endearingly awkward, don’t really see smugness at all

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2019 04:31 (seven years ago)

so tonight: exactly one wrong response all night between the three contestants. 59/60 correct responses during regular play, plus 3/3 correct responses in final jeop. two of the three daily doubles were successful true daily doubles. is that as close as jeopardy has ever come to a perfect game?

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 4 June 2019 04:46 (seven years ago)

(xp) i'm with you on sweetness, awkwardness and, above all, normal dudeness. but i do think a tiny bit of smugness crept in over the last 10 or so games. and it didn't bother me at all.

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 4 June 2019 04:48 (seven years ago)

the dude seems nondescript as hell lol at the projection

The Combined Coryat score for the game of $53,200 is an all-time regular-play record.

Christ, that is insane.

If that's what it takes to beat him...

frogbs, Tuesday, 4 June 2019 13:36 (seven years ago)

i was bummed when dude lost... but it's pretty cool that Emma has three wins in a row since beating him, hope she can run off a nice streak as well.

loved how he gave her a big high five after she nailed the final jeopardy. his 'smugness' was always endearing.

easy ball shooter (Spottie), Thursday, 6 June 2019 17:00 (seven years ago)

he going to get a baseball job now?

im sure he'll get some kinda shot on a team yea

he suggested in an interview that it probably wouldn't pay enough

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 6 June 2019 17:50 (seven years ago)

what would? He should be able to do the promotional talk circuit for the rest of his life if he wants additional cash.

He makes a lot of money at his gambling job

So this Jason guy...

I swear they're giving him weak competition on purpose

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 18:08 (six years ago)

Regardless his strategy is great and he's not getting many questions wrong. 3rd highest cash total after only three weeks or so!

Is this the guy who was the champ on the season opener?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 24 September 2019 18:33 (six years ago)

yep. He's at something like 450k now.

Whoa cool

Netflix has just the season openers of each year in a set. It's a trip watching Alex, the sets, and people's hair/fashion rapidly change upon binge watching.

There's a few random episodes of the 70s version on YouTube. Man, the questions, er I mean answers were a lot harder then!

Ken Jennings is interviewed on Andy Richter's podcast and seems like a cool guy.

Yelploaf, Wednesday, 6 November 2019 18:19 (six years ago)

I didn't realize Eddie (mentioned in 1st post) is blind! Used braile to read the questions. That's impressive. And met his wife after she saw him on the show. Neat.

Holzhauer was on today (tournament of champs).

Holzhauer's twitter avatar makes me laugh every time I see it

Emma (she who defeated Holzhauer) is on today.

The questions are kind of extra hard which adds something.

good times

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 03:09 (six years ago)

def rooting for jennings, as he is a recognizable human being, whereas holhauzer is a computer program that had to teach itself how to smile.

culture of mayordom (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 03:58 (six years ago)

plus he's really good on Twitter

the sigh of relief after he got the last FJ right is as much emotion as I've ever seen on this show

frogbs, Wednesday, 8 January 2020 14:35 (six years ago)

yeah, he was pretty emotional the whole time. i'm glad he's kicking ass cause i was worried holhauzer would steamroll through, but the first night was fairly dramatic.

culture of mayordom (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 15:20 (six years ago)

Brad constantly throwing himself on grenades probably helped. James can't steamroll if he doesn't hit the Daily Doubles

frogbs, Wednesday, 8 January 2020 15:31 (six years ago)

Brad had a rough night

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 15:57 (six years ago)

who won the second match? i only caught the first. jennings getting the stupid "before and after" daily double right was clearly the turning point though it was pretty dramatic that brad made it to exactly half ken's "points" for final jeopardy

na (NA), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 16:07 (six years ago)

those before/during/after clues hurt my head

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 16:13 (six years ago)

sorry i meant "james made it to exactly half ken's "points" for final jeopardy" not brad

na (NA), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 16:15 (six years ago)

James won the second game but not by enough to overtake the lead

both the before/during/after & triple rhyme time categories demonstrated just how much good these guys are, even the easy ones would've taken me more time to figure out than you get on the show. and they got them in like half a second

frogbs, Wednesday, 8 January 2020 16:21 (six years ago)

James can't steamroll if he doesn't hit the Daily Doubles

yeah, a huge part of james' strategy was hitting as many daily doubles as possible, which is easy to do when you control the board for nearly the entire game, which he tended to do for most of his run. you can't do that against these guys, obviously.

fact checking cuz, Wednesday, 8 January 2020 16:56 (six years ago)

brad also lucked into daily doubles very early on in both games

culture of mayordom (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 January 2020 17:00 (six years ago)

is this the first game Brad ever lost to an actual human
