The instinct to remain spontaneously arises from the experience of being a socialised worker where nothing is permanent, nothing is getting better, and what you do have is threatened.

Just wanted to share this old beauty with you all on a quiet pleasant Sunday afternoon

this fucking soulless shill is doing good work for Farage.

calzino, Sunday, 2 June 2019 14:42 (seven years ago)

If he’s in NYC, I’m sure he goes to Myers of Keswick like all the other expats and buys it for like $5 a can.

suzy, Sunday, 2 June 2019 14:48 (seven years ago)

I have my criticisms of Ed's pusillanimous austerity lite and pandering to bigots agenda in election '15. But he seems like quite a swell guy and a class act next to his awful awful obscenely crass brother.

calzino, Sunday, 2 June 2019 15:02 (seven years ago)

Friend of mine was matey with his wife when both lived in Kentish Town and she says they’re both good people. Ed appears to be genuinely contrite about not going further left - and the same people undermining Corbyn used to whisper against him. Whereas Corbyn stood up and defended his dad from dog-whistle antisemitism while Labour’s current critics on the subject said fuck-all in solidarity with their leader.

Here's an example of Brexit in action:

And, unlike Cameron, Boris hasn't got a disabled son up his sleeve he can pull out to shore up his NHS credentials. He could always mention the excellent access to abortion available on the NHS which has come in useful for at least one of his mistresses.

The instinct to remain spontaneously arises from the experience of being a socialised worker where nothing is permanent, nothing is getting better, and what you do have is threatened.

This is just an example of the standard political ploy of inventing your opponent out of your imagination.

lol no it doesn't

(he's not describing his political opponents)

how long is alastair campbell’s tantrum going to go on

Til Corbyn resigns, admits he voted Leave, and that the Iraq war was good actually.

gyac, Sunday, 2 June 2019 19:46 (seven years ago)

centrist louise mensch at it again

Why is it so hard for left-wing politicians to make left-wing case against Farage, Johnson, Trump? It’s baffling. If Labour want to back the criminals who subverted our laws for their own enrichment at the cost of our welfare state, well g’luck to them. Other parties get it

all the heroic big game hunters will be coming out with their elephant guns this week, don't know how Trump will withstand the onslaught from Khan and Cooper et al ... he's in for a rough ride.

calzino, Monday, 3 June 2019 08:36 (seven years ago)

Ooh how exciting, a convoy of helicopters just flew over. Don't think a milkshake was going to reach that far so I held my fire.

jeremy cunt: "it is with a heavy heart i must condemn this great nation to a protracted, embarrassing and entirely avoidable death"

Speaking later on Today, Hunt was asked whether he could back a no-deal departure. As a former remainer, the foreign secretary faces pressure to appeal to more Eurosceptic Tory MPs. The list of candidates will be whittled down by MPs to a final pair, to be decided on by party members.

Hunt said: “My position on this hasn’t changed at all. I’ve always said that in the end, if the only way to leave the European Union, to deliver on the result of the referendum, was to leave without a deal, then I would do that.

“But I would do so very much as a last resort, with a heavy heart, because of the risks to businesses and the risks to the union.”

naked rollercoaster-riding world record holder (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 3 June 2019 10:04 (seven years ago)

it would be with a heavy heart I'd love to to take a good run up and kick him so hard in his nuts he could sing like a castrato, but the heavy heart would be pretty meaningless in the final analysis tbf.

calzino, Monday, 3 June 2019 10:10 (seven years ago)

It is with a heavy heart that he will accede to the US negotiator's demand that the NHS be privatized.

'Country' is a polysemous word.

pomenitul, Monday, 3 June 2019 10:17 (seven years ago)

john harris has some... i guess you'd call them 'thoughts' if you were feeling generous, in today's grauniad: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/03/britain-remainers-no-deal-brexit-tribal-war

my favourite para:

There are now Labour activists and polemicists who treat politics as if it were a board game, hanging on to the theories of dead Russians, and dealing in abstractions. Their rationale for maligning much of the party’s supposed base, I am told by some horrified Labour insiders, is to excise a whole chunk of the post-industrial working class from left politics, leave it to Farage and his friends, and install “networked youth” as the new vanguard of the revolution. Where any such manoeuvre would leave Labour’s supposed mission to double down on inequality and the UK’s regional imbalances is anyone’s guess. It would also threaten to pump the left full of one of the worst prejudices of all: snobbery.

naked rollercoaster-riding world record holder (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 3 June 2019 10:28 (seven years ago)

So, Trump is suggesting that the UK leave the EU without a trade deal, close off trading with China as well, and deal with the US only with the sorts of pricing that dealing with a sole supplier can demand?

hmm, he's not as daft as he likes to pretend...

Mark G, Monday, 3 June 2019 10:38 (seven years ago)

how many of these PFI behemoths can go down the shitter before it is declared a crisis?

gyac, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:10 (seven years ago)

how many of these PFI behemoths can go down the shitter before it is declared a crisis?

all of them

and then it'll be public bailout time and trebles all round in boardrooms across the country

naked rollercoaster-riding world record holder (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 3 June 2019 11:22 (seven years ago)

i'm sure Harris has plausible deniability on thinking Marx is Russian

Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Monday, 3 June 2019 11:26 (seven years ago)

My daughter just landed in Leeds to visit my sister. Couldn't bring in boxed mac and cheese! Fuckin' Brexit, man.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:30 (seven years ago)

we do have mac and cheese here on our embattled island nation, you know, you don't have to bring your own

naked rollercoaster-riding world record holder (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 3 June 2019 11:35 (seven years ago)

It's not the same, I hear. My sister requested it!

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:37 (seven years ago)

naked rollercoaster-riding world record holder (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 3 June 2019 11:39 (seven years ago)

(yeah, american friends always asked me to bring back mac and cheese and chocolate jello pudding. you can get the latter in big supermarkets now, expensive though.)

mark s, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:45 (seven years ago)

You're thinking of Kraft rats & cheese (it's in the name!).

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:45 (seven years ago)

Josh, your sister should order from here:

https://www.usafoodstore.co.uk/kraft.html

suzy, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:47 (seven years ago)

lol, she's been there 20 years or so, you'd think she would have figured out a way.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 June 2019 11:49 (seven years ago)

She had never seen that site, thanks, but just told me it's good its limited availability keeps down her consumption. (She said she can get mac&cheese from Amazon, no surprise). She did say there's a Taco Bell there now, so she's good to go on the seven-layer burrito front (she's a vegetarian, and I think that's her nostalgic go-to).
