A bigger question is how Chelsea managed third despite being an incoherent mess of a team for most of the season but we all know the answer is just 'Hazard'.

Matt DC, Sunday, 12 May 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)

In summary: funny old game

Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 12 May 2019 20:04 (seven years ago)

is hughton too fuckin nice, is he too easy to sack

ridiculous decision

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:30 (seven years ago)

everyone wants their adkins/poch moment

imago, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:31 (seven years ago)

either that or it's another warnock heelturn haha

imago, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:32 (seven years ago)

professional football in England has been morally bankrupt for a while tbf

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:35 (seven years ago)

we had the same reaction here when adkins was sacked for poch. maybe they see teams around them trying to play better football and are willing to roll the dice. it does seem harsh but it's not hard to understand. most of brighton's points were at the beginning of the season.

FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:40 (seven years ago)

can't see Hughton improving them any further tbf

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:43 (seven years ago)

i guess they reckon they'd be 10 or 15 games into the new season and end up making the same decision. maybe it's smart. hard to say really, it's all a sort of gambling i suppose.

FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:47 (seven years ago)

adkins poch is a serious outlier

there are clubs that need to yo-yo wisely in order to grow i think but im not invested enough to back that up

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:51 (seven years ago)

different circumstances but i've said the same about other managers in the past, when they get to the "scraped 17th" phase it's less a sign of achievement and more a sign of time to go

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:51 (seven years ago)

*cough*Mick*cough*

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:51 (seven years ago)

i mean yeah if you think of it as thanks a lot here's a million quid it doesn't seem that much of a travesty.

FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:53 (seven years ago)

^^^

imago, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:54 (seven years ago)

a chance for real football fans to grouse on twitter though

imago, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:55 (seven years ago)

its an interesting managerial ability gap, how much of it is projection, self-promotion, a genuine missing skillset or personality type

could hughton ever take say a west ham or an everton and improve them? doubt it, fair enough

is the level of performance that gets you sacked from brighton a lower level of performance than emery or whoever have shown?

youd pick a few managers shouldve gone ahead of him i think

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:55 (seven years ago)

xp sure look nothing is sad is someone is worse off eh

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:55 (seven years ago)

race to fourth from bottom nest pas

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:56 (seven years ago)

I think we have to accept that Solskjaer's gonna be in place until at least October

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:57 (seven years ago)

poch in

hughton to spurs

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:58 (seven years ago)

Could still do a job at right back

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:58 (seven years ago)

i guess i just don't feel that sorry for the managers, i think there's a weird reverence for them. hughton is fairly consistently good but there are plenty of managers making millions for failing over and over again. at least the players have to run around a bit or whatever.

not saying fuck the managers either obviously. man united will be raging they didn't hang on, though i guess the chances of them tempting hughton are slim enough.

FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 10:03 (seven years ago)

i guess i think about what it takes to try to get six clerical officers to do anything, anything at all and then i think about having to do that under intense public scrutiny in a highly charged competitive environment and then i make them millionaire cunts then i multiply it by four then i imagine the working week boils down to a ninety minute session with a similar outfit trying to spoil it and then i go lie down for a while

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 10:09 (seven years ago)

Look there's thousands of people pay good money for Football Manager every year who'd do the job for nothing how hard can it be you just look at the players' stats out of 20 and go thru the regen lists off the internet

Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 10:14 (seven years ago)

i have the right to work in this country and a statue of myself outside real sociedad's ground and yet johnny foreigner gets appointed every time.

FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 10:18 (seven years ago)

poch out nevertheless obv. chancer.

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 10:24 (seven years ago)

Watford have done OK rolling the dice on new managers as well. Hughton did OK but depending on the quality of the promoted teams there's probably a shake-up needed.

Also his signings last summer were notably terrible and you get the sense they're not crazy to back him for another round of investment.

Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2019 15:20 (seven years ago)

I think gambling is how the Brighton chairman made his fortune, so surprising he didn't roll the dice sooner tbh.

calzino, Monday, 13 May 2019 15:26 (seven years ago)

Tony "The Lizard" Bloom is the most successful gambler of his generation thanks to the hedge-fund-style betting consultancy that helps him ...

deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Tuesday, 14 May 2019 22:43 (seven years ago)

Ultimately the chance to teach Ole and Phelan how to read and write for 900k a week was not quite exciting enough.

FernandoHierro, Tuesday, 14 May 2019 22:46 (seven years ago)

Kompany off to manage Anderlecht

groovypanda, Sunday, 19 May 2019 10:21 (seven years ago)

FernandoHierro, Sunday, 19 May 2019 10:24 (seven years ago)

Has Aguero actually broken the Premier League trophy by dropping it off a balcony or is this elaborate social media bantz?

Matt DC, Monday, 20 May 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)

i want to believe

I read that disobedient slaves broke it. Btw don't bring an umbrella if you're out killing slaves in Abu Dhabi this weekend, the forecast is great.

FernandoHierro, Monday, 20 May 2019 22:36 (seven years ago)

Taking this pretty well Fernando

Good crosses in 2018/19.

David Beckham - 2.
Minutes played - 4.

Ashley Young - 1.
Games played - about 50.

Someone start a transfer thread so I can celebrate this momentous signing

Number None, Thursday, 6 June 2019 08:52 (seven years ago)

we need an idiotic managerial quote to get it going

FernandoHierro, Thursday, 6 June 2019 09:03 (seven years ago)

My folks moved to the west midlands three years ago, and my mum swears that they get more tv news about aston villa than about brexit

Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Thursday, 6 June 2019 09:29 (seven years ago)
