I only hate the people with noise cancelers/loud headphones on the subway because they don't get the fuck out of the way when you yell at them to.

And I would never wear them while moving in the city because I don't want to die that way.

i am okay with dying that way i guess? it's been an adjustment and i don't leave them on all the time but it alleviates the nonstop intrusion of the world into every goddamn moment and turns the train from a traveling asylum back into a conveyance. I'm aware it may ultimately be a problem to be a true disconnected bystander but i feel like i may also have avoided several confrontations because i genuinely can't hear the guy cursing at everyone in the car, so I don't have to deal with it.

I'm going to be that anecdotal person and say that a woman from my hometown died at a train station (in Chicago iirc?) bc she had headphones on and stepped in front of an Amtrak train.

The MTA is on the hunt for the "idiots" who are pulling emergency brakes on subway trains, snarling tush-hour commutes.

This person has an established M.O., the source said, and Jalopnik confirmed this by reviewing internal incident reports. There are at least three so far.

The suspect disrupts service primarily on the 2 and 5 lines from Flatbush Avenue in central Brooklyn to midtown Manhattan. He climbs aboard the rear of the train as it departs a station, unlocks the safety chains, somehow gets into the rear cab, and triggers the emergency brakes. Then, he disappears, most likely through the subway tunnels and out an emergency exit.

Despite striking on average once a week for several months, the person has not been caught.

Classic or dud: platform-standing people who are not getting on the current train but nevertheless form a World Cup level wall before the door.

one of the biggest duds, next to people surging, in wall formation, into a car the instant the doors open, nevermind everyone trying to get the fuck off.

Perhaps with the additional ingenuity of displaying strappy backpacks for any loose cords to catch on as you round the wall.

Not as dud as the entire BART where people form a line at the future location of a yet to arrive train that blocks the entire width of the platform.

That seems similar to the experience of trying to dock a bike - or undock it- when people are lined up for the ferry.

The worst are the fsckers who stand in the doorway when people are getting on and off

I have an, um, soft spot for the types who sort of accelerate and sneakily jockey for position to be the first ones into the car, then decelerate once they are past the door while they size up the situation to decide where they want to sit.

There are service changes and delays on the F line while we work to remove a shopping cart from under a train at Jay St-MetroTech.
