― imago, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:24 (seven years ago)
funny to think of the champions league as a consolation prize. i know the epl is the one you guys really want
― imago, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:25 (seven years ago)
it's like a supercharged version of arsenal having the fa cup to look forward to
― imago, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:26 (seven years ago)
Spurs back into 4th
― groovypanda, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:27 (seven years ago)
there are gifts that are slips or drops or brainfarts and there are gifts where nobody from front to back in your team lifts a leg to stop it and we can concede em all
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:27 (seven years ago)
doesn't feel as low as a consolation prize. would be amazing to win the cl. i don't think it's today that the feeling of not winning the league has appeared, feels like there's been plenty time to expect this outcome.
and after tuesday night and the season generally i think it just has to be enjoyed as much as possible. liverpool were nowhere when klopp took over and there have been times when it looked like they'd never even challenge for top four again.
― FernandoHierro, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:28 (seven years ago)
is this the worst team to ever finish top half, i wonder
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:28 (seven years ago)
poch out
you want a big job fuck off and do aa big job
riding on the coattails of talent like sissoko, kane and trippier for years imo

Mane and Salah fighting it out for the golden boot
― FernandoHierro, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:41 (seven years ago)
Three way tie for the Golden Boot as is
― groovypanda, Sunday, 12 May 2019 15:41 (seven years ago)
In many ways it is the biggest prize of all
Mane offside ffs

if you win a second does it go on the other foot
a third in the shape of kevin kilbanes head

With Glenn Murray.

sat in the side of the pub showing the Liverpool game cos I thought Wolves would be well up for rattling their cage. they're still my team of the season but boy was I wrong
outside of Spurs' toil the only thing that gives me succour in this league nowadays is mild novelty or unprecedented occurrences so I guess the top two's points total counts as that but this doesn't overall feel like an objectively fun season
the fella who rated our season 9/10 in that Observer roundup thing today is a spoonfed stooge imho
― Terry Major-Ball Will Tell You (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 12 May 2019 17:11 (seven years ago)
I think we had 45 minutes worth of the possibility of rattling them and chances were blown, not for the first time this season. Disappointed not to get something out of that but i'd probably be more angry if we had something to gain out of it
― Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 12 May 2019 17:19 (seven years ago)
top four, stadium move, nothing spent and cl finalists, couldnt be less than 9/10 tbf nb poch out
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 May 2019 17:24 (seven years ago)
First trip to the new stadium today, very much an end of season party atmosphere, especially once the Everton fans clocked the City score. That place really holds the noise in.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 12 May 2019 17:27 (seven years ago)
Did they cheer louder for City's goals or their own?

Can't really say much beyond the usual platitudes here, 97 points and no title is beyond perverse. Fine margins fine margins fine margins. Well done to City, as much as the money is the key factor we're not exactly spendthrift ourselves and no other manager in world football would get the tune out of them pep does. They're recognizably a guardiola team. Fuck it
― or something, Sunday, 12 May 2019 18:33 (seven years ago)
Clearly I'd be far less magnanimous, suicidal possibly, if last Tuesday hadn't happened *gritted teeth*
― or something, Sunday, 12 May 2019 18:34 (seven years ago)
The only clear observation i would make at this point is that the top two have been massively better than everybody below themand big 6 is bollocks
― Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 12 May 2019 18:58 (seven years ago)
97pts and no title is just payback for 60pts and CL qualification in Houllier’s last season (leading to Istanbul blah blah).
― Michael Jones, Sunday, 12 May 2019 18:59 (seven years ago)
Achieving 11 points from your final 12 games of the season and still qualifying for the CL must run that pretty close
― groovypanda, Sunday, 12 May 2019 19:43 (seven years ago)
I'm sure we've ended up with fewer than 71pts and still qualified in the past - we were good enough over the first 2/3 of the season to have a big gap and also fortunate that Arsenal and United turned out to be even more inept than us.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 12 May 2019 20:01 (seven years ago)
A bigger question is how Chelsea managed third despite being an incoherent mess of a team for most of the season but we all know the answer is just 'Hazard'.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 12 May 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)
In summary: funny old game
― Bash Street Kids: Endgame (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 12 May 2019 20:04 (seven years ago)
is hughton too fuckin nice, is he too easy to sack
ridiculous decision
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:30 (seven years ago)
everyone wants their adkins/poch moment
― imago, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:31 (seven years ago)
either that or it's another warnock heelturn haha
― imago, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:32 (seven years ago)
professional football in England has been morally bankrupt for a while tbf
― Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:35 (seven years ago)
we had the same reaction here when adkins was sacked for poch. maybe they see teams around them trying to play better football and are willing to roll the dice. it does seem harsh but it's not hard to understand. most of brighton's points were at the beginning of the season.
― FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:40 (seven years ago)
can't see Hughton improving them any further tbf
― Doctor Nu (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 May 2019 09:43 (seven years ago)
i guess they reckon they'd be 10 or 15 games into the new season and end up making the same decision. maybe it's smart. hard to say really, it's all a sort of gambling i suppose.
― FernandoHierro, Monday, 13 May 2019 09:47 (seven years ago)
adkins poch is a serious outlier
there are clubs that need to yo-yo wisely in order to grow i think but im not invested enough to back that up
