outside of Spurs' toil the only thing that gives me succour in this league nowadays is mild novelty or unprecedented occurrences so I guess the top two's points total counts as that but this doesn't overall feel like an objectively fun season

Achieving 11 points from your final 12 games of the season and still qualifying for the CL must run that pretty close

I'm sure we've ended up with fewer than 71pts and still qualified in the past - we were good enough over the first 2/3 of the season to have a big gap and also fortunate that Arsenal and United turned out to be even more inept than us.

A bigger question is how Chelsea managed third despite being an incoherent mess of a team for most of the season but we all know the answer is just 'Hazard'.

we had the same reaction here when adkins was sacked for poch. maybe they see teams around them trying to play better football and are willing to roll the dice. it does seem harsh but it's not hard to understand. most of brighton's points were at the beginning of the season.

can't see Hughton improving them any further tbf

i guess they reckon they'd be 10 or 15 games into the new season and end up making the same decision. maybe it's smart. hard to say really, it's all a sort of gambling i suppose.
