and 12 minutes later they release the ipad 4 with sufficient grunt to run the retina screen. total swizz.

unbelievable that they haven't yet canned the shittest of all possible keyboards. so shit neither Samsung or Acer have copied it

stet, Tuesday, 21 May 2019 20:17 (seven years ago)

swipe keyboards are an improvement. i feel like i've lost a superpower when i have to use someone else's phone. though the autocorrect is still so bad. surely this is a good use-case for the kind of natural-language tech that powers Alexa etc? don't suggest words that make no sense?

Apple is renaming iOS on the iPad to:

oh shit, gamechanger

Aspen Jortstein (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 3 June 2019 16:46 (seven years ago)

actually interested in this wwdc keynote for once

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:00 (seven years ago)

I'm vaguely interested because it seems like a moment where something interesting *has* to happen?

although right now they're telling developers about how great their original streaming video content is going to be so we're not off to a good start

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:06 (seven years ago)

multiuser TvOS is good. Goodbye Horrid Henry, Goodbye Gardener's World

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:11 (seven years ago)

this is really starting at trundle pace for something that was meant to pack in a whole lot of shit

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:14 (seven years ago)

I get that these talks are widely viewed outside of the developer community but ranting on about first-party app features on existing hardware without mentioning new APIs they're using seems like a complete waste of developer time

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:19 (seven years ago)

I will never enable dark mode on anything and you can't make me

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 17:33 (seven years ago)

love how close to parody these presentations skew

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:34 (seven years ago)

why stet? I'm exactly the opposite I will never disable it.

easy ball shooter (Spottie), Monday, 3 June 2019 17:36 (seven years ago)

not me! I'm a dark mode stan myself

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:39 (seven years ago)

oh sorry meant silby!

easy ball shooter (Spottie), Monday, 3 June 2019 17:39 (seven years ago)

dark mode is essential it saves my eyes

easy ball shooter (Spottie), Monday, 3 June 2019 17:39 (seven years ago)

ok, the email masking stuff is good but more of a cloud service offering. nice to have it built in

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:43 (seven years ago)

I just don't care for it, seems silly

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 17:44 (seven years ago)

I also have the system text size slider all the way to the left tho so apparently I don't care about my eyes in general

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 17:45 (seven years ago)

imo the best not caring about eyes would be using dark mode 24/7, even outdoors

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 17:46 (seven years ago)

dark mode is good, it makes it like you are in a secret cave

j., Monday, 3 June 2019 17:59 (seven years ago)

If I'm gonna be in a secret cave I want muted warm light and like a comic book

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 18:03 (seven years ago)

iPad OS is fixing a whole lotta shit for me

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:06 (seven years ago)

I also have the system text size slider all the way to the left tho so apparently I don't care about my eyes in general

Yeah. I like how much layout real estate you gain

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:09 (seven years ago)

multiple docs side-by-side is huge for me. And direct Lightroom import

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:10 (seven years ago)

i don't like dark mode because it doesn't feel like an apple os. feels like windows or some shit like linux that i don't understand

flappy bird, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:12 (seven years ago)

Yeah DM meshes all my open windows into a black mass which looks great but makes it a little hard to distinguish them visually

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:17 (seven years ago)

NEW MAC PRO klaxon

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

it's full of holes

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

RIP my iPhone 6.

pomenitul, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:22 (seven years ago)

some not-fuckin-around max specifications on this thing

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 18:22 (seven years ago)

anyway someone post it on the trypophobia thread

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 18:23 (seven years ago)

Do we have to wait til fall for these iOS update goodies?

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:24 (seven years ago)

Oh it’s my old G5 tower!

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:28 (seven years ago)

I like this new screen. I like wheels!

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:31 (seven years ago)

well, they did it, they delivered a fuck-off video and audio editing machine

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:40 (seven years ago)

Mac Pro starts at $6k

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:42 (seven years ago)

$4999 for the screen, fucking hell, $5999 for the matte. And the stand is another grand FUCK

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:43 (seven years ago)

how much for the Mac Pro wheels? HOW MUCH FOR WHEELS?

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 18:47 (seven years ago)

curious to hear what the maxed out price is, i'm guessing 8999

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 3 June 2019 18:57 (seven years ago)

maxed out is going to be way north of that. the Xeon 28-core alone is $8k

stet, Monday, 3 June 2019 19:00 (seven years ago)

$23,999.

don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Monday, 3 June 2019 19:00 (seven years ago)

“Apple said that when a device is offline and sleeping, it sends out a secure Bluetooth beacon that can be detected by other Apple devices nearby, even the ones owned by other people. This results in a network that works to find lost Apple devices through a secure, encrypted, and anonymous signal relay.”
This is weird...widescale mainstream mesh

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

Looks like they finally have a solution in place of the online store saying “we’ll be back soon”

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 19:04 (seven years ago)

curious to hear what the maxed out price is, i'm guessing 8999

haven't done it for a few years but a friend and I would jokingly max out the top-end system on the website back when Mac Pros were a running thing with regular updates and, even without RAID you could hit $10k reliably

mh, Monday, 3 June 2019 19:07 (seven years ago)

That Minecraft VR demo though ...

calstars, Monday, 3 June 2019 19:08 (seven years ago)

yeeks

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 3 June 2019 19:34 (seven years ago)

SwiftUI will be such an improvement to my average, daily quality of life that I almost broke down.
