Jastrow's royal 50 Shades joke: is it racist sexism or just racism? It all hinges on your perspective!

Artfully placed above the Baker story, i'm confident that the resonance had been considered.

There are possibly quite a few policies (Capital punishment is one yeah) that some ppl want back but politicians don't do it.

It's a minority now in the general population but...

traditional incandescent lamps (sorry I'm an ex-sparkie and "light bulbs" is savagery). but most basic light fittings these days have hardened pvc type lamp-holders that would basically melt or burn with the now old style tungsten filament incandescent lamps.

No option for kicking a ball in the street?

Number None, Friday, 10 May 2019 17:25 (seven years ago)

Kids these days need a poll to tell them to kick a ball in the street.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 10 May 2019 18:01 (seven years ago)

Look, kicking a ball in the street is the old politics. We need a new ball, a ball that reflects a modern plural democracy where every hard working family gets a kick and we're not held to ransom by Stalinist catenaccio

He's managed to offend Margaret Hodge, Stephen Pollard and Andrew Adonis, despite not being Jeremy Corbyn.

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 May 2019 13:58 (seven years ago)

if he'd have added ... "and it is all Corbyn's fault and here is why..." to this dodgy bs take, then that might have might have won him M Hodge's backing.

Today, we are in the depth of a Brexit crisis brought about by the collapse of trust in the way Britain is governed. But there was an alternative, another road that could have been taken. And would have been taken, by a potential Prime Minister who trusted himself and wanted to reform the UK while resisting the corruptions of neoliberalism. He would not have won the 1997 election with a landslide 180 majority as Blair did, for he would not have been backed by Murdoch and the Sun. But he would have beaten Major handsomely enough to set the UK on a far better course across the millennium.

I'm not sure of all of that, there might have been more compromises to Murdoch/US/neoliberalism than he thinks in Smith - but there is no denying this country might be in much better shape right now had Blair remained a thwarted ambitious prick on the sidelines and Smith lived longer.

An emergency food bank has been set up in the Whitehall offices of a government department after cleaners and other support staff became the victims of a payroll blunder - no wages since March - by one of Britain’s biggest outsourcing companies.https://t.co/gmr1qeZRWz
