Hahahaha I’ve been told about Armada stuff relating to my Swedish great-grandmother from Gothenburg (and assumed it was a coastal/port city thing).

I went on IrishCentral (a site where the commenters are no strangers to getting the callipers out to prove how Irish they are) so you don’t have to & this theory seems more legit (though I also seriously doubt the lazy thinking that EVERY Irish person encountered by the Romans was fair - they probably just noted people who looked different to them)

May spokesperson says she will not quit until Brexit Phase 1 is delivered. I can see that going well at 1922.

"What if Brexit doesn't pass? Will you stay forever?"
"I have been clear we want to pass the withdrawal agreemen---"

stet, Wednesday, 8 May 2019 12:17 (seven years ago)

But in remarks that suggest she still wants to achieve a Brexit deal before quitting, May said: “I actually think that when we look at the Liverpool win over Barcelona last night, what it shows is that when everyone says it’s all over, that your European opposition have got you beat, the clock is ticking down, it’s time to concede defeat, actually we can still secure success if everyone comes together.”

It is a good metaphor as it suggests the deal she has on the table is terrible and a defeat for the UK and needs some kind of last-ditch miracle to put right, which I am sure is exactly the message she wants to be sending.

Another fine pair of fellas (this was in Corbyn’s likes, lol)

One of the best perks I have ever had by going on Marr (apart from meeting Andrew of course) has been meeting Adrian Dunbar. A brilliant actor and caring, thoughtful person. Though I couldn’t get who is H out of him! pic.twitter.com/MQABztZ9Xq

I can still picture Dunbar looking quite youthful in 90's stuff like The Crying Game and it oddly doesn't seem that long ago #livingtoolate/oldbastard

calzino, Wednesday, 8 May 2019 19:14 (seven years ago)

Back in the early ‘90s when I was supplementing my freelance income by working for a market research company (my manager was a guy who’d been a tour tech for Sonic Youth), I had an assignment to recruit ‘style leaders’ for an alcopop focus group so into Camden’s pubs I went. At the Enterprise I got chatting to an actor type who turned out to be Adrian Dunbar, who not only did the survey questionnaire but went around the pub hassling other likely-looking punters on my behalf. Top dude!

suzy, Wednesday, 8 May 2019 19:31 (seven years ago)

QC twitter having a banner day again

Tweet says don’t scapegoat and then entirely blames groups for particular things.

Low wages aren’t caused entirely by bad employers - it’s more complex

Similarly financial crisis and bankers.

Just because they share blame doesn’t mean they should be lumped with all of it
