peterborough by-election triggered too. good

... and the crowd said DESELECT THEM (||||||||), Wednesday, 1 May 2019 18:00 (seven years ago)

Didn't swear on the life of Cronus, I see.

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Wednesday, 1 May 2019 18:04 (seven years ago)

Peterborough a severe marginal and a major gain for Labour two years ago but figure it will flip back blue.

nashwan, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 18:11 (seven years ago)

lol! thought it was just common thugs that "swear down on their bairn's lives" when they are clearly lying their arses off.

Inch by inch eh?

Hope him denying it turns this whole thing into even more of a mess 👀

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 18:56 (seven years ago)

i'm really really going to miss the game where you have to guess if someone is briefing against Gavin Williamson or if Gavin is briefing to try to make himself look good

Peterborough a severe marginal and a major gain for Labour two years ago but figure it will flip back blue.

UKIP didn't stand in Peterborough last time and Farage has already said the Brexit Party will field a candidate, which will probably hurt the Tories more than Labour.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 20:28 (seven years ago)

Williamson’s position seems to currently e that, yes, he did speak to the Telegraph after the meeting but someone else must have leaked the info to them separately.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 20:46 (seven years ago)

xxxp is Mr Seumas Milne going to snort Corbyn or has he sneezed him out of one of his giant nostrils like a Stalinist snot

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:31 (seven years ago)

The New European, besides being shite, is a good example of a print publication that’s far Too Online.

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:32 (seven years ago)

New European just isn't even read enough to bother with.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:35 (seven years ago)

My local shop stocked it for a while back and I’m not really sure why - think they pulled it. This is in a very Leave constituency too (same shop still sells The Morning Star though?!)

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:41 (seven years ago)

Toilet roll shortage?

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

Isn’t it like £3 a pop, you could buy several tabloids for that if you were caught short? It’s not even better quality paper like

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

I think Archant, the publisher of The European, has links to the Co-Op and puts out their in-house magazine, which might partly explain it.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:46 (seven years ago)

"It’s not even better quality paper like"

It's the journalism

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:50 (seven years ago)

That fishhooking won’t pay for itself!

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 21:53 (seven years ago)

NEW: @georgegalloway tells me that he has approached @Nigel_Farage directly to say he wants to stand in Peterborough by-election for his Brexit Party. But if not selected, he could stand as an independent.

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 22:09 (seven years ago)

Seumus Milne's Big Brother.

calzino, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 22:13 (seven years ago)

I got a letter from the co-op recently informing me about some vote I can make. I was like Brenda - got local elections tomorrow, Euro ones coming up - fuck off with this ilm poll shit.

calzino, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 22:13 (seven years ago)

are Labour co-op MPs selected through different means than just Labour MPs? I’ve never really understood how that works.

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 22:18 (seven years ago)

Just back on Hobson. This thread is pretty good, looking at how Corbyn might've engaged with it in the first place. He is more of a liberal than his enemies think, and in turn less of a radical than his friends think.

It occurs to me that one of the reasons people are so horrified by the Hobson thing is that they don't actually read anything from the canon, so it may help to clarify that most of it is as evil as fuck, and it's standard scholarly practice to just blithely pretend not to notice.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 22:22 (seven years ago)

it's only fair to expect some dilettante who was a minor figure at the time rather than LOTO, to completely overturn what the academic establishment was saying about canon works at the time when asked to provide a preface.

calzino, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 22:56 (seven years ago)

Dug out my polling card which idk I always feel obliged to bring (probably a hangover from voting at home) so here’s to voting in my first local election ever - and yes I am rightly ashamed of that.

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 23:00 (seven years ago)

my first ever vote in a LE was only a couple of years ago. Not remotely ashamed, fuck every last one of these corrupt pieces of shit from every party tbh!

calzino, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 23:04 (seven years ago)

Absolutely no signs of election activity where I am so I assume we're not having any.

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Wednesday, 1 May 2019 23:07 (seven years ago)

Did you have some last year?

gyac, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 23:11 (seven years ago)

Christ, local elections, who remembers them?

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Wednesday, 1 May 2019 23:13 (seven years ago)

I can never forget the delirium of LE 2017. This bloke said to me it's not that entrance, it's this one here by that sign that says Polling Station.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 01:11 (seven years ago)

got five o helicopters flying right over my bastard house and setting my dog off. John Singleton directing a local production of Boyz n' The Hood in the heavy woolen district tonight.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 01:15 (seven years ago)

No local elections in London. Doing Postal for the European (forget I am forever signed to vote this way).

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 2 May 2019 06:12 (seven years ago)

Just on my way to the polling station with my dog who I'll have to tie up outside. If he does a shit I'll leave it it as a write in vote for the libdem candidate.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 06:17 (seven years ago)

first time I voted was in a local election, I was the youngest person on the electoral roll, and I voted for my mum who got elected as a Labour district councillor. There was an article in the Oxford Mail to commemorate this milestone in the history of democracy.

Neil S, Thursday, 2 May 2019 06:28 (seven years ago)

Funny that you mention voting for your mum, cos my local Labour candidate is called Dad.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 06:34 (seven years ago)

spooky!

Neil S, Thursday, 2 May 2019 06:35 (seven years ago)

Hope your dog was ok and you got him settled, calz? That’d freak mine out as well.

Too late to go this morning but will drop in after work.

gyac, Thursday, 2 May 2019 06:51 (seven years ago)

yeah he's fine now, combination of loud house party next door and rumbling copper chopper hovering above made him think all hell was breaking loose for about half an hour.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 07:01 (seven years ago)

i agree with Tom Watson for once, if Williamson is as innocent as he says then he has nothing to hide from a full criminal inquiry into the leak.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 07:04 (seven years ago)

incidentally, how is MR seumas milne 61 ?! must be drinking his six pints of water a day

... and the crowd said DESELECT THEM (||||||||), Thursday, 2 May 2019 07:23 (seven years ago)

Genes and fucking off the right, iirc.

gyac, Thursday, 2 May 2019 07:41 (seven years ago)

warning from history! Stafford Cripps was a lapsed tankie and a vegetarian who used to preach the benefits of eating raw vegetables, and he croaked it at 62.

calzino, Thursday, 2 May 2019 07:47 (seven years ago)

Passing the statue of Captain Cook on the Mall this morning, I was delighted to see some enterprising person had scrawled CUNT on the base of the statue. Good work!
