The dragons got smaller and smaller over the decades, until the last dragon was the size of a cat when it died. But it wasn't just that House Targaryen had stunted the growth of the world's greatest weapon. The Dragonpit was also where many dragons were killed by an angry mob during an infamous event known as the Storming of the Dragonpit.

They have a bunch of big dragon skulls under the palace (or is it the Red Keep?) as we saw a few times (and as is referred to even in the redesignef title sequence which may be a big hint too) but reanimating decapitated dragons might not be that useful. Any intact ones even cat sized yes of course.

You are maybe wrong. They were extra deliberate about showing when speaking roles got killed, as usual. I think they want us to be worried about her.

If you build up an ancient supernatural threat over the course of a show you have to save that for last, or next to last, unless you have something better up your sleeve.The very first episode back in Season 1 opened with a white walker horror sequence, after all.
