Any team that can't get thru that United defence doesn't really deserve the title

Just as a heads up, if United somehow get a result here you might want to pre-order a truckload of popcorn because the title will probably hinge on Liverpool Wolves.

About that

Bloody Man U, first time I've ever supported them and they let me down.

Two wins from three will guarantee Top 4 for Spurs now and just one might be enough.

Keep forgetting we've got the Liverpool return, at least we'll be televised.

PFA team of the year:
Ederson, Alexander Arnold, Van Dijk, Laporte, Robertson, Fernandinho, Pogba, Bernardo Silva, Mane, Aguero, Sterling
I'd put in Hazard for Mane. Pogba has been so inconsistent but still for one off game I'd take him. Allison, Salah, Sigurdsson, Son, Vertonghen & Alderweireld all close. Not really been an outstanding RB imo: Walker, Doherty or Wan-Bissaka all reasonable shouts.
― ogmor, Thursday, 25 April 2019 08:36 (five years ago) link
I think I'd go Doherty at RB and Robertson as player of the year
― ogmor, Thursday, 25 April 2019 08:39 (five years ago) link
Doc's goals and assists tally this season recall the heyday of a Rooney

foyth at rb or fuck off
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 April 2019 09:32 (five years ago) link
Son's been outstanding this year, really should be in that list
― thomasintrouble, Thursday, 25 April 2019 13:11 (five years ago) link
patchy til winter tbh
kane son and two centre halves shouldve been in close contention, sissoko since turn of year
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 April 2019 13:14 (five years ago) link
Think Wijnaldum deserves to be in Pogba's spot tbf.
― Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 April 2019 13:58 (five years ago) link
Hazard has to be on the team of the year, either take off Pogba or Mane
― . (Michael B), Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link
meh at ederson/aguero tbh dont even @
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:14 (five years ago) link
Does Pogba's presence mean they were voting in late Feb / early March?
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:15 (five years ago) link
sissoko & wijnaldum have had decent seasons but they'd struggle to break into a top 15 midfielders of the season let alone team of the year
― ogmor, Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:17 (five years ago) link
agreed overall but since barca draw sissoko has been the greatest football of all time and i dunno that you've taken this into account?
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:19 (five years ago) link
Pogba should be nowhere near that
I'd go alisson, wan-bissaka, virgil, laporte, robertson, fernandinho, wijnaldum, bernardo Silva, hazard, mane, aguero
― or something, Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:34 (five years ago) link
Where are the Spurs? Why do you hate ILX?

Wijnaldum has been outstanding, not in top 15 mids is crazy talk
― or something, Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:36 (five years ago) link
I would maybe have stuck Son in and rejigged a bit but gone no Spurs on principle
― or something, Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:38 (five years ago) link
wan-bissaka for me def, hazard ahead of mane
agreed drop pogba but not for hazard because team is just a list of attacking mids then, but im struggling to think of a purely central midfielder that stands out, tempted to say doucouré maybe
― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 April 2019 14:41 (five years ago) link
Doucouŕe a good shout

― oscar bravo, Thursday, 25 April 2019 16:13 (five years ago) link
i mean he's obviously great but not outrageous to make a case for his omission from a team of the year. i'd probably still have him in mind you.

― or something, Thursday, 25 April 2019 17:47 (five years ago) link
Milner has has a p good season just saying
― FernandoHierro, Thursday, 25 April 2019 17:51 (five years ago) link
Milner has been much better than Wijnaldum and has played maybe 50% of games?
Ogmor's list is not actually especially challopy, Mikky T aside. James Maddison in particular has been excellent, same with the Wolves lot.
Who has been better than Aguero over the past decade? And somehow he still feels slightly undervalued? Stick Gabriel Jesus in that team and tell me it's just about having amazing players behind you.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 25 April 2019 19:55 (five years ago) link
of ours Neves is still learning and hasn't consistently impressed this season but he's 22, it's all good. Moutinho is pound for pound the Prem signing of the season, the difference between a top half and a bottom half finish for us at the very least.
― After Cease to Brexist (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 25 April 2019 20:02 (five years ago) link
aguero is surely the most underrated world class player itw
wijnaldum is a curious one really, he's v industrious but it's hard to work out what marks him out. he's got a good range of passing but you couldn't really say he's a play-maker, he doesn't cross or create much and has offered significantly less goal threat than shane duffy never mind mkhitaryan, so his main skillset is really pressing and, if we want to elevate him above sissoko, mb 'decision-making'? agree that milner is the more obvious pick from the liverpool midfield tho I do like fabinho
― ogmor, Thursday, 25 April 2019 21:20 (five years ago) link
but it's hard to work out what marks him out
This is why I love him, and why Klopp usually puts him first on the sheet. He's terribly underrated because he's nigh on invisible. You don't see (natch) invisible yet invaluable players like him any more. "He doesn't cross or create much" is plain wrong, he's instrumental to many of Liverpool's goals. I'm sure there's an OPTA tweet proving you wrong here. Decisive.
Choosing Mhki, of all midfielders, over Gini this season is madness. Mhki does things right but stumbles about, you always hear him, always know what he will do, clumsily. Gini is a ghost. Ghosts should be treasured more, even though I understand they're terribly unsexy and outright - seemingly - not present.
I'm probably Pogba's biggest stan on here, but apart from a couple of matches he's been woefully underperforming all season, he doesn't deserve to be in this XI.
― Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 April 2019 21:34 (five years ago) link
I naively assumed this discussion was taking place after ppl had taken a look at the stats. Wijnaldum is joint 202nd for most crosses this season and has 0 assists.
― ogmor, Thursday, 25 April 2019 21:47 (five years ago) link
0 assists doesn't mean he's not involved in goals. It doesn't mean anything really. Gini's a typical 6. Sixes bridge between defenders and attackers, but aren't 8's or 10's. Sixes hover between defenders to pick up the ball and get things going. Sixes don't usually make assists. Gini's an old-fashioned spielmacher.
― Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 April 2019 21:54 (five years ago) link
Frenkie de Jong, who's off to Barca this summer for 85 million, is a similar type of player. (almost) never appreciated for what they do (in this case FdJ obv is appreciated for what he does and can, but you catch my drift). Sissoko in a way is, too.
